Out of curiosity, why are people happy/find it something good for Venezuela that Chavez died? I don't really know much about the situation there.

In any case, it is a shame. I never really knew much about Chavez but it's a shame that he died in such a way.

Looks like you have to do some homework. Basically under Chavez Venezuela became a quasi-socialist country, with the strongman regularly blaming America for all of his problems, even though he also exports oil to that country.

I think this counts

'Things Fall Apart' author Chinua Achebe dies at 82

I can't say I ever read his other works, but reading Things Fall Apart in high school was, I think, the first time I began to fully understand the effects colonization had on Africa, and could have in the future.

Sadly, that was expected, ever since his health began to decline some three years ago.

Maybe not one of the most objective of film critics, but about he and Siskel brought their opinions to the public eye and concluded their judgments by the direction of the thumb.

Man, when I saw that headline I just stopped in my tracks. This sucks. Despite his age, he was still at the peak of his powers in terms of his writing.

I don't know how many will miss her but Margaret Thatcher died.

Churchill and Thatcher were the only two PMs who were very effective and controversial in their time, most other PMs were somewhat could be construed as lame ducks.

It's about a month late, but "Stompin' Tom" Connors, the Canadian folk and country singer, died on March 6th of renal failure. He was 77.

"Stompin' Tom" was most noted for being a prolific, funny, and proudly nationalist singer and songwriter. When he was young, from the age of 15 to 28, he wandered across Canada, hitchhiking, working various part time jobs, and playing guitar and writing music. Sometimes in the winter, he would deliberately get himself arrested for vagrancy just to have someplace warm to sleep. His break in life apparently came when he was a nickle short of the price of a beer. The bartender told him that he could have the beer if he played a few songs. Those "few songs" became a thirteen month performance contract at that hotel, and a weekly spot on a local radio station. After that, life became considerably smoother.

Oh well the girls are out to bingo and the boys are getting stinko, and we'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday Night, the glasses they will tinkle and our eyes begin to twinkle, we'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday Night...
