I expected as much. :ehh:

Still, definately going to be buying a copy this week. Reading a couple chapters from any volume is a sure-fire way to cheer me up a little, no matter how down I am.

I feel the same way too =3 Although...

I half-choked when I saw that in this thread. I can see why one might liken it to light soap operas - as I agree that SIRP is a teen drama. Otherwise it isn't trying to sell us soap yet so...

It seems I forgot to mention a couple of things about Volume 5, since I can't think of a way to tie them together in a paragraph I'll list them for you:
- I should have mentioned this initially: Yui acquires some character growth screen time early in the volume, and as usual Misato appears in some good scenes
- Towards the end of the Volume, Pen-Pen makes an overdue cameo!
- In contrast to the Volume's earlier stages, Extra Stage one is refreshingly fanservicey
- It's probably a good idea for me to note that Extra Stage two includes some partial nudity; it's all in clean fun even if it is quite sudden and unexpected.

Also, Dark Horse Manga advertised a 'preview' of their upcoming Campus Apocalypse translation to be included with Vol5: I was expecting a couple of pages as a sample, as it turns out they've taken the cheap mans' path as the two pages of panels they included are without dialogue.
For those who have read some of Campus Apocalypse and are curious, the included panels are the scene in which Shinji first 'manifests his Eva' from Stage 3or4.

I'm pretty sure SIRP itself is the soap. We are all slaves to the Gainax merchandising empire, you know.

Eh... I've read some of Campus Apocalypse online and it just seemed WAY too out of character for me. I mean, I can dig the AU "happy-Rei" and Gendo being comical in SIRP, but it seems the author of Campus Apocalypse doesn't really know the characters enough to subvert them like that. I mean, in SIRP, the characters are the same ones from NGE just without all the tragedy in their lives. In Campus, they seem like cardboard cutouts with the familiar faces of Rei, Asuka, and Shinji pasted on them, all fighting demons in some RPG world.

That's what I got after reading a few chapters, at least.

So what are everybodies predictions for this enjoyable little book? Will it end up going down the A/S route of 'Angelic Days' or will us R/S shippers finally catch a break?

No idea at this point, but I'm guessing they might go for a more open-ended ending than Angelic Days, probably with Shinji not actually choosing either girl and implying that the "adventure continues," so to speak, after the credits roll. But that's just a wild guess on my part.

Anyway, my local Books-A-Million still hasn't stocked volume 5. I've been checking every few days for the past two weeks. I don't want to have to end up ordering it online and having to pay shipping...

Here in Italy we should have arrived up to volume 9 but my shitty local shop still hasn't managed to get anything beyond vol.2,5,6 and it's been over a month since I've ordered it, I'm really going to order it online at this point...
Anyway I hope that we can finally get the ending that we're waiting from 15 years, but an open ending like Killer Bee has suggested wouldn't be so bad (actually I hope that the manga keep going for still some time, from what I've read it's simply hilarious).
So let’s make a wish.

:argh: It's been nearly three weeks since it was released and my books a million still hasn't gotten vol. 5 of SIRP in yet. I have a bad feeling it may be thanksgiving or christmas before Im able to get a hold of 5 and/or 6 unless it happens to be sold at an outlet mall in Tennessee when I go on vacation tomorrow. :sigh:

Same here. It's odd, because they're usually good about getting manga in on time. I might just end up ordering it online.

I stopped by one of Canberra's two (that I know of) comic stores on Friday and I saw five copies of Dark Horse's Volume 5 sitting on the new release shelf. Sounds like my city is pretty lucky >.>

Misato's boobs take up 65% of the final chapter.

The only comic store I have within driving distance doesn't even sell manga. :ehh:

Anyway, I went to a convention last week in Orlando and someone was selling a single copy of volume 5 for $8, so I nabbed it. I've flipped through it, and am now determined to go back and count how many times one character falls onto another character and lands in a suggestive position throughout the series so far. I'm guessing it'll be over 9000.

I just went into my local Books-A-Million today and found out they got rid of half their entire selection of manga. They didn't even have Campus Apocalypse, and the latest ISRP they have is volume 4(they have volume 6 listed for a November release. WTH?). This really sucks, because Barnes and Noble's selection has been crap for years and the only comic store within driving distance doesn't sell manga. Central Florida sucks.

I guess Amazon.com's my only friend...

Got a Borders? They have a decent selection, the one by me has a couple of shelves dedicated to Evangelion.

I haven't gotten Volume 6 yet, my local comic book stores tend to stock any new manga within a fortnight of the release. I recall that Volume 5's release was put back a week shortly before it was meant to come out, perhaps it happened again with 6 but Dark Horse forgot to update their site. However it goes, I'll let you know when I get a copy.

Nope. I've never even seen a Borders before. I assume there's one in Orlando somewhere, but that's too far to go on a regular basis.

May I ask if DarkHorse kept the full colour pages in their release? My cheap local publisher decided to change everything with shitty B/W pages...

So far they've had two double-sided colour pages at the start of each volume. Everything else including the artwork for chapter/title pages is grayscale. ... A good quality grayscale if I may say so.

Thank you EvangelionFan; I think that those in the middle of the volume were in grayscale in the Japanese edition as well, now I'm kinda regretting that I've ordered my local edition rather than the American one (actually it's slightly more expensive and it's behind the Italian one) but I can just stick to the Japanese scans to have a decent look to those illustrations, I just hope that their translation doesn't suck as well, I've just purchased the first part of volume 12 of Sadamoto's manga and it had more translation errors (about Misato telling the civilians to fight at close range the JSSDF and Adam being "generated" by Earth...). I've sent them an email asking to correct/check those errors before the complete volume is printed but I don't have many hopes that they'll do it (it's also possible that they've already printed it).

I guess this is when it is useful to be Japanese.

I bought vol 10 in the Kinokunia store in the Avenue of the Americas in NYC (was returning from Yellowstone to London- we got charged by buffalo while trekking. Now I look back, it was fun) among other light novels and mangas I bought (and everyone in my group thinking "Oh god he is a nerd/Oh god he is so typically Japanese" but I gave no egestory materials)

I am guessing peopel do not want spoilers, so I will just say that typical things happened, and something finally happened with Asuka.
