Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
What surprises me is that there haven't been any follow-up announcements after the original release announcement in late November.
You would imagine that for a release as anticipated as this that they would want to be continually building hype for it, but they've been oddly quiet about it ever since the original announcement.
They definitely cast Vic Mignogna as Shinji.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

there was a social media post from Netflix (I believe) with a gif of Unit 00 bashing its head against the wall from Episode 5 with the caption "Every time you ask me about Evangelion".
I can't find it.
Either way, while definitely anticipated, let's not get carried away here. It might not be a nothing title, but it's definitely not a huge deal for a company the size of Netflix.

I saw that Twitter post. It was from about a month ago I think.
I mean, my puzzlement is that they haven't very forthcoming about the release since the announcement. They put out a vague release date of "Spring 2019" in late November and, with the first day of Spring literally hours away, there hasn't been any further update about the release at all. No news about the dub situation, or a more specific release window, or anything else...other than their NX Twitter account for sci-fi stuff posting a reaction GIF in response to people asking about the status of the release.
I don't think anyone was expecting it to land directly on March 20th, but the general feeling seems to be that we should have heard something by now.

I got this gif as answer lol :P
https://twitter.com/NXOnNetflix/status/1106682530206380032
I also want it to arrive already.
1-Can finally watch my favourite film in HD (and my favourite show obviously).
2-People who I know that might like the show will be more likely to watch it, due to the strange power Netflix has of making people watch whatever the fuck they release. I'd like hearing new opinions.

Eva is not available, but listed. Does that mean anything?

Well, either way, it's on my list now! I suspect it must be coming soon in this case.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Oh no. It's your worst case scenario lol.
It really wouldn't make sense to call this 90s show a new Netflix Original.
And I added it to my list too hehe.

Does the highlighting of the Japanese cast suggest there will be no dub included?

No, all anime have the Japanese cast highlighted.

I thought that was likely, but confirmation is reassuring none the less.

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
If Netflix could get away with calling THE OFFICE a "Netflix Original" they would.**
Wouldn't be surprised if Netlfix labels Evangelion a "Netflix Original" everywhere in the world but Japan. They already do that for most foreign language shows they pick up anyways.
** One of the (many) key reason Netflix isn't transparent in sharing their viewership data is because even though the service is now majority "Netflix Originals" - about 51% - there's a lot of evidence to show that over 2/3rds of the stuff watched on their service are acquisitions they're simply renting. The Office, Friends, all those classic & new movies, etc. They have the occasional hit - Stranger Things no doubt is a true Netflix blockbuster - but the majority of their in-house produced content gets a lot of traction on social media but can't compete with the viewership numbers of HBO, NBC, FXX, etc. Once every studio has their own service up & running in a few years & start taking all their stuff off Netflix - like Disney is doing this year - there's a chance the Netflix bubble - still borrowing money while over $20 billion in debt and the dates for having to payback coming up in the early 2020s & Netflix having no other avenue to make money besides subscriptions - could burst. Netflix's lack of transparency is to protect themselves. But in the meantime, if they can get away with calling Evangelion a Netflix Original & say 10 million accounts watch all of 26 episodes & 2 movies over the next three years adding up to millions of viewership hours online, Netflix can add that data to their "People Watching Netflix Originals" and none are the wiser.

If they're doing that I would bet they'll just release the show tonight at 7pm.
Netflix's main appeal is INSTANT GRATIFICATION. What better way to win people over than holding a countdown for a release date and then when the countdown is over go "Here it is! Lol!"

Do they always do it with a countdown?

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
Nope.
Which is why I'm betting this countdown is to the release of the show. Pretty much everyone who has been bugging Netflix "When Evangelion?" is either aware or will be aware of this countdown by the time it ends. It's the best & easiest way to guarantee Evangelion would have a huge premiere on the service. Spend all day funneling fans to one area for an announcement and then say "Go to Netflix right now" and the people who want to watch Eva will do so.
Plus, Friday evening is not normally when you announce things. Friday evening is when you release things.

Good points.
The account is also in the chat teasing with "When do you think it comes out?"
And yes I'm now spending time in that chat lol.
