I'm a female that's bi as a rainbow and for 7 years lived near San Francisco! Though I'm still not seeing it. In the case of Maya and Ritsuko, that goes beyond the normal admiring a coworker/higher up (hearts in the script during EoE tang scene, for instance). Nothing I've seen of the scans or stuff on Eva Fan implies Mari's romantically interested in Yui.

"Suki" can be translated as "like" instead of "love".

This is reminding me how with Sailor Moon Crystal, Western fans have been jumping to the conclusion Usagi's bi just because she's held hands with Ami (common for schoolgirls) or admired the beauty of her female friends (not that weird, people can admire each other without wanting to jump them).

To be fair usagi IS actually bi (hell none of the sailor senshi are 100% straight), i refer you to THIS analysis: http://lgbtlaughs.tumblr.com/post/103121973970/im-watching-sailor-moon-for-the-first-time-and-at-this

On topic though, yeah im not seeing it either, people just want to ship and they will.

From somebody who's been a fan for 16 years, and actually bi: Usagi's not. Manga especially, where Seiya's always a woman and Haruka has both male/female qualities to her, she's still only interested in Mamoru.

Anyway, that's off-topic. I was just making a point about how it seems like people try to find deeper meanings in everything these days. Alternate readings is fine and encouraged, but the context is still important, you know?

Why would the scans of the anime reveal anything of her from the manga.

You don't just say "suki" to someone in Japanese. If you're with a bunch of friends and you compliment someone you reply with "Kimi ga suki da", then it would be being used in the sense of "like" yes, but if you're alone with someone while she makes your hair it's the equivalent of "I love you."

I'm not even a shipper but this is odd coming from someone like you to not even register how thick this chapter laid it.

Um if you actually read the stuff in the link it barely even mentioned seiya......its based on several other factors.

Off topic reply  SPOILER: Show
I was talking about manga specifically, nothing about the anime. Ikuhara or Sato wanted to make the inner Sailor Team couples (minus pairing up Usagi with Mamoru), but Naoko was pissed off at the idea. Or at least, that's allegedly how the story goes. (We do know she intentionally paired up Haruka with Michiru.) That tumblr post is just a fan's interpretation (a debate that always goes on within the fandom, anyway), hence my "I've been a fan for 16 years" comment.

Going back to Extra Stage, my point all along is: Not everybody will read a situation as 2 characters being in a relationship or there's a romantic interest from 1 towards the other. It's another thing entirely if it's spelled out, like Maya towards Ritsuko. Hope wording it that way makes more sense.

View Original PostMr. Tines wrote:I'd been vaguely expecting an essentially frivolous coda, if not something quite as tongue in cheek as "After the End".

That's pretty much what this chapter is:
SPOILER: Show
the couple of passages about Mari aside, the whole chapter is about revealing how much of a clumsy dork Yui actually is, demystifying the one that would later become the closest thing to a god, as well as showing Gendo and Yui's first meeting. (and Gendo is actually pretty good looking when he bothers to take a minimum care of himself)

Mari is just a little bonus that doesn't really impact anything, it could had been Kyoko instead or any random student, and Sadamoto took Mari probably because the design already existed and she's a known name of the franchise now, that's all.

I just read this extra stage and the translator affirmed that the other woman that appears with Mari and Yui is actually Kyoko, there really isn't any proof for that, but she does kind of look like her.

I'm glad for that warning-- I've not yet read Volume 14. While I have a general idea of what happens just from coming across spoilers by accident, I'd like to avoid deliberately spoiling myself.

That's a ploy from Yui to make Mari less attractive so she won't stole Gendo, because Yui saw him first and it's hers! Truly Yui is a genius like you only have one per generation!

Although personally I think she's better with glasses.

Tines is not a fan of rebuild.........at all (putting it mildly), so that might be why.
Cant speak for him though but that's my guess.

Well, I gladly accept this as a backstory for Mari's character in Rebuild if no better explanation turns up in Shin. The only thing I dislike is, that in the Manga's continuity she has no place, and we might never learn what happened to her in Sadamoto's Evangelion. It would have been a lot cooler if she at least would have got a cameo in on Stage/Chapter or another.
