Looks like Kaiyodo continue to still be in the re-issue business (imagine everyone has seen this already but thought I'd mention it):

Despite being really down on the old Evos back in the day and not collecting them beyond unit 02, I'm sort of tempted to fill in the gaps in my revoltech collection. It's probably just collector OCD or maybe with the quiet (and sad) passing of the RD eva's but I feel myself softening toward these sculpts.

And the Mark 06, which I'm kind of tempted by as I've got the metallic paint version.

i want to build a diorama, but i dont understand scales used for ships, does anyone here play with modeling kits ? wich would be apropriate for a eva with 17 cm ? i imagine it would be quite big, but i want the ships in the background, so i guess around 20-30 cm tops would good does anyone knows in what scale this would fall ?

OH i found an answer in case anyone else is wondering

If you go by rebuild heights, which is 80m to the top of the pylons for the Evas, 17cm is roughly 1/470 scale. That isn't a standard scale for ship kits but there is a few of them available around that neighborhood. Some ship kits come in what is called "box scale", meaning the maker has a standard sized box for their kits and they size up the kit so that it fits in there.

Here's a fairly close 1/450 scale Atago-class kit, which is the upgrade to the Kongo-class that appears in the show and movies: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10289542

It is worth noting that ships tend to be HUEG, the Atago-class is 165m long which is roughly 37cm at 1/450 scale in the above kit. That's still only a destroyer and pretty huge.

I'm pretty sure a bunch of 1/500 kits also exist, which are sorta close enough too.

The main two scales that most of the Japanese modelling industry has settled on for kits is 1/350 and 1/700. You can get pretty much any ship in those scales. 1/350 can get really expensive though, because ships are huge.

If you take the Bandai Evangelion model kits and apply the 80m official height then those kits are roughly 1/355 scale and should fit very well with 1/350 ships.

If you take Kotobukiya's new line of ENT Evas, those are 1/400 scale kits and there are a few 1/400 scale ships available. Most of those are from Heller, a French company and thus it's mostly French ships.

I have actually gotten my dirty hands on two 1/400 scale ships to go with my Kotobukiya kits, because FUN, so here's two examples of REALLY FUCKING HUGE SHIPS that are both 1/400 and to-scale with the Evas:

Hapdong 1/400 BB-62 New Jersey  SPOILER: Show

Given all that though, a diorama is a scene you construct for visual impact. There is usually a lot of cheating you can get away with. Very few people will actually care if your Eva and ship are 100% to scale as long as the composition is good. What I would recommend is figuring out which ship you want and what's available and what would work best for your idea. If you're doing TV Evas then you could probably get away with literally anything because RUBBERY SIZE CONSTRAINTS WOOOO.

You have a ship of that size and you show it with ENT!Nigouki? Shameful.

And I'm with you, Ray: proper Nigouki, posed on a ship, complete with tarp/cloak . . . awesome.

TV Nigouki needs a 1/350 scale Nimitz-class. While that does exist it's not what I'm looking for.

ENT Nigouki will eventually be very happy with her 1/400 scale Big E.

Key world "eventually". I've had the plan in my head ever since Kotobukiya announced their new, awesome 1/400 lineup of Eva kits and bought the Enterprise almost a year ago. Still not much done....

hey TMBounty_Hunter, thanks for the reply and specially the pictures, definitely made the comparison better, i browsed and found that a 1;700 of the ship used will work for me, i was looking for some mvc(the mobile tank on most shots, the one the turret moves on the road to shoot sachiel in the first movie, but those are expensive !! more so then the ship !! and the small ones i mean, i was planning on getting 6 but that would set me back 200 quid !!! i guess i will have to make do with printed 3d models.

To be properly to scale the ship would have to be able to magically shrink to the size of the Eva's feet.

Oh come on, there's much better figures of the Angels out there (garage kits). These "action" figures are all made from rather hard plastic, with so-so engineering and pretty awful fitting parts, low-grade paint apps, and feel rather fragile despite being quite solid articulation-wise (that is, they have little articulation).

I have several figures from Sega's Real Model line-up (none Eva-related, though), and if you can get them for cheap (no more than 1500 yen...) they are a decent buy (if you put them on the highest shelf you have and look at them from afar). You might be able to find lots (as in 'sets of several for a low price') of them on Y! Auctions Japan...

Of the non-Eva related ones I have, Sakura Wars Iris and Kohran are okay (they screwed up Sakura's face  ), and the later Virtual On figures are actually pretty good if you can look past the limited articulation and so-so finishing (just skip the first three).

I really like that Misato. Hope I see it at Otakon this year, but I'm not holding my breath.

That Asuka fig's not terrible (at least it's not sexualized all the way to hell and back), but it's kinda boring. Too girlish. She should be either apathetic or pissed, not . . . that. But even so it's one of the better Shikinami figs I've seen recently.

IMHO the Alter Asuka is still the best one: http://toy-navi.net/archives/40855835.html I'm just afraid that with this month's re-release she'll be overproduced and her price will plummet. orz

Nah, that pose is terrible. Best renditions of Q!Asuka I've seen are the Portraits fig and the Wondercon RAH. All the ones that have her torqued up to show her tits or ass are instant fail for me.
