Sony Pictures Home Entertainment distributes all of the US Blu-ray releases for the Godzilla Franchise. Their sister company, TriStar, handled the US theatrical release and dubbing of the few Millennium Series that got US theatrical release.
Simply put, Godzilla is too big and name and too expensive a franchise for Funimation's blood. Anno is finally gonna get his mainstream Hollywood studio distribution that he craved for his NTE films, and he's gonna love it. It's just too bad that Toho is the only Japanese studio he can work with in order to get that kind of distribution.

On that note, how long is a typical Godzilla production?
........ I believe that Anno will take a break from directing after this Godzilla movie.
........ He wasn't joking when he said that (3.0+1.0) would take six years. (we are at the half-way point then)
EvaGeeks is a nightmare to navigate, still good tho.

Having no Earthly clue about what could possibly happen next? Racking your brain about how the characters are going to get out of this situation? Clearly the writers are just bad at their job. I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice?

So I saw both of Shinji Higuchi's live-action ATTACK ON TITAN films in packed theaters. It was quite a curious affair. Mind you, I might be the perfect audience member for the film because I have no affinity for the Attack on Titan cartoon or manga. Never read the manga & I find the artwork for the TV series to be so ugly I just couldn't watch it. So watching both movies at no point was I pulled out of the story because "In the anime character X was more like this" or "That never happened", etc.
Anyway, the movies filled me with some confidence for the Godzilla movie. And some reservations too.
First, the positives.
Higuchi's effects work, while never real-world convincing, is still some very fascinating stuff to behold. The use of normal humans as Titans with some simple digital & prosthetic effects work on them was actually a stroke of genius. A few of the Titans were legitimately creepy to look at & in the opening act of the first film especially, Higuchi pulled off some very powerful shots with the Titans.
Also, that Colossal Titan, while never convincing as something that existed in the same shot as the human actors, was still a superb effect to see in motion. Really a show stopper of smart, low-budget(ish) effects work.
Now the negative reservations.
Reservation A: Higuchi WILDLY overestimates what he's capable of effects wise. In both Titan films he often oversteps that thin line of impressive ambition & blind arrogance. It would have upset the anime fans even more but he should have nixed the Spider-man gear at the start. You need a certain amount of money to pull off the image of people flying through the air with ease & the Titan films NEVER pull it off. Instead it looks exactly like what it is, a bunch of actors in front of a green screen making silly faces. As long as Godzilla stays on the ground the effects work should be fine.
Reservation B: Higuchi is NOT an action director. Whenever he's not doing a key "Look at me" effects shot his manner of directing action is to put the camera as close to the actors as possible & shake it. A lot of the action scenes in both Titan films are rendering unintelligible due to old "shaky cam".
Reservation C: He's not a storyteller. The pacing, writing & direction in both films is pretty terrible. This can't all be laid at Higuchi's feet but it's hard to think the takes in the film where the best they got.
Reservation D: Ugly digital cinematography. I know this goes with the territory but I hope they do a better job lighting Godzilla. Or at least not go so overboard on the color correction.
BUT there's a lot to like in the Titan films if you aren't overly attached to the series. Neither movie is great but they have their moments. Part One especially comes alive when it's just giant human beings eating people & Higuchi is focused on delivering scares. Part Two drags at times & the third act is Higuchi trying to pull off a Michael Bay action sequence but it's got charm & I like how hard Higuchi tries to be Anno in the middle portion of the film.
I feel that with Hideaki Anno as Higuchi's collaborator on Godzilla 2016 we could be getting something really special as long as Anno pulls off his A game directing actors, pacing the story properly, writing solid dialogue & blocking the action out ingeniously. Anno seems to have strengths as a filmmaker in all the areas that Higuchi is lacking & vice versa. As long as Anno can keep a grasp of what they are capable of achieving in Godzilla 2016 we should get something truly special. It also doesn't hurt that two of the best things in the Attack on Titan films are playing the leads in Godzilla 2016. Hiroki Hasegawa is a goofy blast in both films (though he's even more phenomenal as the insane director in Sion Sono's 'Why Don't You Play in Hell?) & Satomi Ishiara steals the second film. Doesn't hurt she's cute as a button.
I have high hopes for Godzilla 2016. I really hope they can pull of a movie that is legitimately great!

You're young enough to have that hope, yes!

This makes us two.
Of course I'd like to see 3.0+1.0 to be released next year.
About Godzilla, I haven't thought much about it. I remember though, that I've seen some of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s Godzilla films on TV. And I've seen the crappy US remake from 98 just twice and I haven't seen the newest one yet.
But jeah, Anno and Higuchi, two notable veterans of the movie and anime industry making a Godzilla movie? I'll watch it.

I carry out things right to the end. No. Matter. What.

For us non-Japanese we can call the film GODZILLA RESURGENCE.

Also, since they played a promo reel at the American Film Market Toho wants to get the film to play overseas. Hell, we could even see Godzilla Resurgence released (in limited markets) the same day as it hits Japanese theaters.

Wasn't Rebuild a name the fans made up shortly after Jo was released?
