It's not the EoE "dream/reality" sequence.. I don't recall this from any part of EoE.

"Misato's dead, Asuka's dead too.."

This clip's from one of the Death/Rebirth trailers included in the Revival extras disc.

Edit: Rei's asking him if he's afraid? and then "being alone is scary, isn't it." this is curious.

If this was from a Death/Rebirth trailer, then it's probably an early version of some dialog for Rebirth's new material that got shunned for something else in the full End of Evangelion.

I'm working on my Japanese but I'm bugged I can't figure out the last part of Shinji's second line. if someone else is good with Japanese, give me feedback ('cause this is fun).. there is a chance I'm getting whole kanji wrong.

Rei: "Are you scared?"/"Is [it] scary?"
Shinji: "I guess.." (how do you translate "sa" efficiently)
Shinji: "I never thought I was scared.." (help here)
Shinji: "I killed many people.. I killed Kaworu-kun, too.." ("ippai" in this case means..? "many", right?)
Shinji: "Misato's dead too, and Asuka.."
Shinji: "I can't take any more/no more of [all this]. Eva something something something (wtf is the kanji)

You're welcome.

Literally, I'd translate it as "Unwanted person/human being" or, "person that is unwanted".

However, it seemed a bit redundant in Engrish so I chopped it off.. ;p
Anyway, ningen seems to be there mostly as a noun to "sustain" iranai, which is a verb - negative form of iru (要る)= to want, to need.

So thinking about it, simply Unwanted seems appropriate?

"LCL falls, the mask of Seele".. is the "fall" verb supposed to somehow apply to the mask part, too?

The first and second Death and Rebirth trailers (using Ode to Joy and verdi's Dies Irae respectively) are amazing. they're how trailers should be done, in my mind--the second is even sparse visually, but the usage of the music and voice acting is perfect--the anticipation's immense, even now.
if I were awaiting the movies a decade and a half ago and saw either trailer, I would've simultaneously jizzed and peed myself somehow.

Some of it is recognisably from the unused live-action sequence -- like the lingering shot of Miyamura's ass while cycling... But yes, Anno trolls by reflex.

yeah, but the movie was probably still in pre-production at that point. that shot of eva-05 descending from the moon was in rebuild 2, right? don't answer that, but I hope it was.

Good eye, I didn't notice that text from the D&R trailer before! My guess is that the Rei & Shinji stuff was something scrapped from something from when 3I starts during the Komm Susser Tod sequence OR the LCL Sea scene of them talking.

Now with the second Death and Rebirth trailer of Rei talking, I did see a translation of her little monologue floating around at one point, though now I can't find it.

It's something along the lines of this (my own translation nyah) being said. I love how this uses some of Rei's EoE lines. God, I love Rei so much. Anyway:

The beginning of life is death. Death is the continuation of reality. And rebirth is at the end of the dream. Do you love me? A smile is a lie. The truth is painful. My dissolving heart will destroy me.

(Really wished I can bring something useful to the table here other then) It's amazing how much good crap ends up getting cut, while not as up there as the Toji send off scene from EOE (The lack of closure about the fates of Shinjis friends has always rubbed me a little in the wrong way) or the first drafts of ep24 (God, how painful it would have been if the swimming scene and or Kaworus offer to have a performance with Shinji was left in.) is still interesting none the less to wonder how Eva could of turn.

Does anyone know if anyone translated the text and/or at least the dialogue from these trailers? The first two, to be exact.

There are some lines I recognize in the second trailer since they were said in EoE, but everything else and Rei's monologue in the first trailer I have no idea where they're from or what they say.

Everything else from the trailers is just lines from the movie, just delivered differently. As well as quick flashes for stuff like "At Work Episode 25" (EoE--forget what Cut # 402 is) etc and other production things.
