Can somebody give me links to Evangelion sripts? In EvaOtaku there are the scripts for End of Eva, but, are they the actual scripts written by Anno? Also, here on EvaGeeks, there is something called "Commentary" I think. It says "Translated by Reichu", so I suppose they are the scripts, right? I would also like the Rebuild scripts.
Thanks for any information.

The commentary section only has the first 6 episodes. Is the rest translated? And is this entirelytranslated?:

Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

The subtitle transcripts are available, but the reason for the glacial pace of the Commentary project is the rate at which the screenplay in its full detail is being translated.

OK. Thanks. So the scripts are still being translated. I suppose it must be difficult, so it must take some time.

These scripts are awesome!! Thank you so much for posting them :D They would also work really well for a project that I'm working on. Does anyone know who I can contact to obtain permission to use them?

Here is the EoE script, an early version, and
http://www.evacommentary.org/
here are more scripts (some not entirely translated, there is also another version of the EoE script with storyboards).
Here are the EoE drafts, not entirely translated, but every difference is pointed out http://wiki.evageeks.org/Resources:End_of_Evangelion_Screenplays

I hope this can help!

Not sure if you feel you had this question answered already or not, but no, the EoE scripts on EvaOtaku (http://www.evaotaku.com/html/screenplay.html) are not the actual scripts as written by Anno. The "screenplay" on EvaOtaku would more accurately be called a "transcript," in otherwords a fanmade script made by referencing the Japanese dialogue from the finished film itself, which was translated into English by Bochan_Bird.

Therefore the stage directions in parentheses that describe on-screen actions such as "(Rei's arm falls off)" are not written by Anno, but either by Bochan_Bird or by Brendan Jamieson just to put the lines of transcribed dialogue into some context with what's happening onscreen.

Or as the EvaWiki puts it:
The End of Evangelion Motion Picture Screenplay. Translated by Bochan_bird. (Despite the name, this is a translation of the final movie's dialogue formatted into a "screenplay", not the pre-production screenplay.)

Bochan_Bird's transcript is still very useful as a better and/or alternative translation of the Japanese dialogue compared to the official subtitles on the Manga Entertainment DVD available in the U.S., but it's not useful for stage directions since these aren't original.

However, the other two links you mentioned--
http://www.evacommentary.org/
http://wiki.evageeks.org/Resources:End_of_Evangelion_Screenplays
-- do contain translations from a pre-production screenplay for EoE written by Anno. So in this screenplay we can see how Anno himself originally described things before the film was animated.

So when we read on the Commentary Project a description like--
Hyuga has scooted back and leans against his seat. On his face is a mixture of fear and joy.

--that's an English translation of actual stage direction used in Anno's screenplay. Or at least based on the screenplay, since it seems some embellishing was occasionally done:

Aoba has crawled under his console to escape from Rei. He is terrified without reprieve. Countless Rei draw near. Trembling, Aoba shrieks. Aoba “Hiiiiiiyaaaaa!” When Rei touches him, he turns into LCL.*

*Reichu: The script actually leaves out the detail of Rei touching him, but it's there in the storyboards regardless.

(At least that's my understanding of how the descriptions in the EoE sections of the Commentary Project were derived. People who've been around here a lot longer than me can correct me if I've made errors.)

As mentioned above the full pre-production screenplay hasn't yet been fully translated into English, so there's only bits and pieces translated in the two locations you mentioned.

Hope that helps. Just wanted to make sure we don't get the EvaOtaku transcript confused with actual English translations of the pre-production screenplay.

[21] Another note here I can't translate that looks like animator jargon, (絵画的に・疑似回り込み). Plus... eleven Evas? Since when?

Well duh, the 9 Harpies plus Eva-01 and the remains of Eva-02!

You were a great help, thanks! I really thought that script was Anno's, and not a script by Bochan Bird.

Monk Ed just solved Evangelion.

Many people on this forum think that to decode Eva we only need the series, and that anything that Anno says is not important. While I'm OK with that, and everyone has the right to think about a series what he/she wants, I'm sure that the majority of people (like you) want to know what Anno's intentions were when making this series. This is impossible of course, because we would need to be him, it was a very personal work. So maybe you are interested in interviews with Anno, that does also help, just like the scripts. Here in the Rebuild forum his interview for the CRC was posted, and in the website gwern, there are many interviews, from many different years. Some are very interesting, some aren't related to Eva, so maybe yo don't like them. The website was created by the user gwern here on evageeks. Sorry, I can't provide you the link right now, but writing gwern in Google should bring you to the web, and then just click on the links related to Eva. I hope this helps!

It's amazing! I read through the interviews while watching Anno's filmography, from Gunbuster to the Rebuild (without NGE). It was really interesting.
