I've always preferred Rebecca's default outfit myself, even when I'd earned new costumes for her and Billy in the original. IMO these are pretty boring costumes; for Resident Evil games, I prefer ones that look like something they might wear normally ("normally" including on-the-job), not necessarily in the situation they're in but at least something that doesn't look like they're actually playing dress-up or going to a costume party.

Dem legs... I fucking need that cheerleader costume for Rebecca.

Play-Asia hasn't yet confirmed if the PS3 Japanese retail version will have english text like the original release. Hmmm, what to do..... I really wanted to buy that version so i could have both RE0 and RE1 on my PS3.

Yea, I'm totally with you man. When I started my last playthrough I was all set to have them in their alt costumes and then just thought, I could not take the rest of this game too seriously if Rebecca is dressed like a cowgirl. I'd really love for one of her alternates to be the beret and jill-esque shoulder pads she had in the cancelled N64 version, but that's probably not gonna happen. The Capcom logo on the cheerleader outfit is pretty funny though.

Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 are coming to PS4 and X1.

http://gematsu.com/2016/02/resident-evi ... 4-xbox-one

The first title, Resident Evil 6, will be available on March 29. Resident Evil 5 will follow in the summer, and Resident Evil 4 in the fall. All three games will cost $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 each, and be available digitally. In the Americas, physical disc versions will also be released.

5 and 6 don't really interest me that much, but I'll pick up 4 if they put some effort into it such as redoing character and weapon models and textures.

Aye. RE: 4 was always a favorite. I must've played through nearly a dozen times back in the day. RE: 5 was cool too. RE: 6 was a bit of a mess, and I only ever played Leon's story, but it had some good ideas. I will definitely be getting the first two, and may eventually get 6 later.

I am slowly getting through Resident Evil 5 and one big obstacle in my way took lots of tries which was the first encounter with the Chainsaw Majini. I found by constantly moving around and timing just right my shots at the gas tanks, I would have no problem taking him down.

So, I'm playing through the original Resident Evil on PS1 for the first ever time(after beating REmake a few times it's a bit underwhelming, but still awesome), and so I've got RE on the brain(again) and I went ahead and did a search for Resident Evil Zero on the Playstation network and lo and behold Rebecca's N64 outfit is available for download. So awesome! Now I can pretend to fulfill my eleven year old me dream of playing Zero on the N64.

I started playing it the other night, I did try for VR at first but after 30 mins or so realized that it was going to be too much for me. Another couple of hours in and I think I made the right decision, it'd be an experience for sure but not one I think I'd actually enjoy.

So far I am enjoying the game, it's certainly very different to past Resi games really intrigued to see where the story goes.

Just picked it up a little while ago, here's to hoping it's as spooky as advertised (if it holds up as good as the demo, then we're golden).

And to put in my two cents on the series' direction: I didn't really hate it when it went full-out action. 5 was pretty neat and 6 was a little disjointed-feeling but I did find it just as much fun (in a 'what if Michael Bay had directed World War Z?' kind of way).

Just finished Resident Evil 7. Detailed opinions below.

RE7 spoiler-lite review  SPOILER: Show
The demo did it better.

That might be a surprising opening line for a positive review, but it needed to be said. The demo is utterly misleading; the game takes a lot less after P.T. than it does the original Resident Evil, which is hardly a bad thing, but it's definitely a bait-and-switch. You get weapons early and often and will see plenty of enemies and not much of the same good tension-building as the demo (or even the pre-4 REs) had.

In terms of atmosphere, for me, the game started out excellently, then lost all sense of scariness from the moment the "family" is introduced. From that point on, you're running from invincible killer hicks whom I just couldn't take seriously at all. I found them to be completely horror-breaking, and not nearly as entertaining as, say, Salazar was in RE4. The atmosphere I was looking for returned only after the game moved away from them; everything from that point onwards is decent again, and with a few pretty good, sparingly-used jump-scares. Only problem is, that's only like the last quarter of the game.

While the horror didn't last, the actual quality of the gameplay remained high throughout. I loved the puzzles, the exploration, the backtracking, the need to conserve ammo, and all the other returning hallmarks of the series from before the first formula shake-up. I even liked what was kept from the more action-oriented games such as real-time inventory management and the need to have good aim; if anything, I might have liked if they had kept more of that, such as the sliding and rolling that I loved so much in RE6, but of course it makes sense not to include them in a game that's trying to be less like an action movie.

My biggest gripes with the game come down to its change in aesthetic away from the series' Hollywood-inspired roots. Every Resident Evil game until this one had a certain sense of beauty that this one lacks. There's literal and figurative ugliness in RE7 that's completely new to the series, and I don't like it. I miss, for example, the fantastic facial animation and modeling of RE5 and RE6; RE7 is the first game to step down in that category, and, even if it might well have been intentional (to create a wooden, plasticky, uncanny-valley effect), I think the game is worse for it.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the extra free content. I was disappointed that I didn't unlock a Mercenaries mode or equivalent when I beat the game, because from RE4 onward it's been my bar-none favorite feature of each Resident Evil game. It is for that reason that, contrary to popular opinion, Resident Evil 6 is actually my favorite in the series -- purely from a gameplay perspective and purely for its implementation of The Mercenaries. What I did get when I beat the game was a promise of some free content titled "Not A Hero", coming Spring 2017. If it's endlessly replayable action gameplay like The Mercenaries was in 4, 5, and 6, I'll be plenty pleased!

I also look forward to trying out the game in VR... eventually; that headset costs as much as the entire frickin' console I bought.

I'm not sure, if I misunderstand... But P.T. was never the Demo for Resident Evil, but for Silent Hill.

What I meant by invoking P.T. is that the RE7 demo, which is very P.T.-like, leads one to believe that RE7 is going to be like P.T. when in fact it's not.

I liked RE 7 just fine, but it didn't really feel like a Resident Evil game to me, if that makes any sense. I totally don't mean this in a "this is a copy cat game" sort of way, but the whole time I was playing it I felt like I was playing Bioshock: Louisiana, and that kind of broke my heart in a way. I really love those 0-CV games, so maybe I should just accept that those games and their atmosphere are long gone, but the franchise still means a lot to me. I did like that this one had a few decent puzzles and the setting was cool, but the game didn't leave me with much of a lasting impression. I don't mean to sound like a downer, but that's how I feel.

Also, it's kind of funny in a way; all of these new generation of horror games with their VR headsets and insane graphics will still never be able to(probably) top the atmosphere of Silent Hill 2, the greatest of all times.

Not sure how I feel about the RE2 remake: The reveal trailer didn't do much of anything for me, but having since seen a snippet of gameplay, I think it actually looks pretty good. I was kind of hoping Capcom would stick with the first-person style established in 7 and tweak and refine it further. Who knows, maybe they will go back to that for the next numbered instalment.

Coincidentally, I'm just starting up a rerun of RE7 as well; this time I'm going to do all the extras and DLC, as I didn't get to them the first time around when they were released. I'm even downloading the Beginning Hour demo as we speak to kick things off. I didn't have the highest opinion of this game initially but I'm hoping after revisiting, experiencing the add-ons, getting the full width and breadth of the beast, I can more come to terms with it; give it a clear, proper second assessment.

This is a bit of what I had to say about the RE 2 Remake back in the good old days of 2015 (simpler, better times. The Cubs still hadn't won a WS in a century and my favorite Mexican restaurant was still open. Sigh).

Joy Evangelion wrote:Honestly never thought I'd see the day; people have been saying this since, like, 2002. I'm incredibly happy about the announcement since RE 2 is one of my all time favorites, but I just hope, hope, hope that CAPCOM doesn't change the gameplay, camera angles or controls to satiate the idiot "TANK CONTROLS LOLOLOLZ" haters on the internet. Hopefully they don't change Leon's sweeeet late 90's haircut either.

But yea still really awesome news. I always found the police station to be the creepiest location in any of the games and seeing it rendered with the current technology should be a real treat for us lifelong Resident Evil fans.

Anyway, I've been thinking about this remake a lot recently. I cosplayed as the RE2 Leon this year so the games been on my mind...I was actually thinking about it the day before they released the trailer and was like "no way are they going to bring back the old controls and fixed camera." And I kind of made peace with the fact that they wouldn't, so when the trailer came out it mostly just made me happy. The graphics look beautiful and even if it plays different I'm sure I'll still have a good time with it. I just love the setting and the story so much that it'll be cool to go through it fresh, I guess. The police station is prob my favorite location in any game ever so I can't wait to do it all over again, be it from over Leon's shoulder or not. I'm not trying to read too much about it because I like going into things knowing shit about them, but I guess they're still having a lot of puzzles in it so that's rad. Leon's still got the nice curtained hair too! Woo!

The first time I ever played a Resident Evil game it was 2 and it's an incredibly fond memory for me; I went over to my buddies house during the winter on a Friday night when I was ten and he fired up the N64 and showed me the game. He wasn't too into the game. I loved it from the start and like longed for the game for half a year til my mom bought it for me. So, even if at the end of my playthrough of the remake the game turns out to disappoint me or something, I'll still have the original (on N64 AND PS1) and I'll still have my memories.

...Now I wonder if my strategy guide for the N64 version will be compatible with this one....

I was the same, Joy; RE2 was a massive game for me when I was younger. I could only rent a copy for the longest time and it wasn't enough, so I had to read about it vicariously in gaming magazines (geez, remembering that they were still relevant back then) and squeeze details out of my friends at school. It really just captured my imagination and I loved everything about it, including the gameplay, vibe, characters and monsters. It's probably one of the few games I've played over and over again, trying to do and unlock everything possible. The only other games I can think I've revisited as much as RE2 are the N64 Zeldas.

I'm really liking how the remake is looking. I was fearful it was going to be straight-up action a la RE4, but after having seen that 12-minute gameplay video, I am relieved this is bona fide survival horror. The cherry on top for me would be if they announced there was an additional feature to play in first-person perspective too, like RE7.

And speaking of 7; I haven't made as much progress in starting my replay yet, as I've been stuck, obsessing over Beginning Hour instead. I never played it before now and I think I actually like it more than the main game. I want to work out the other ending(s) and solve the puzzle(s). So far I've only gotten the 'Bad' and 'Infected' endings. I'm racking my brain over what the hell the doll hand is for, yet I stubbornly refuse to resort to a walkthrough or guide (yet)...

Finished my replay of 7. I was going to get into detailed thoughts but Monk's post further up pretty much hits the nail on the head for me, almost word-for-word. The beginning of the game is great - exploring the house and other early moments, the atmosphere is superb - but the Baker family are just too goofy, almost comical, to take seriously, or even find particularly threatening.

The boss fights are mostly rubbish, to the point of schlock, save the Marguerite and last Jack Baker ones, which I found felt very "Resident Evil". The game does get better again in the tanker wreck but after that it's into its final quarter, which is its weakest; far too linear, no exploration or puzzles, and the final boss is a MAJOR let-down (even though I think the "twist" is kind of cool), a reduction to a shitty quick-time event, basically.

Having now played Beginning Hour (I ended having to resort to a walkthrough, no way any one person could figure that out by themselves) I can say the demo was the best bit. It's a shame, because RE7 could have been REALLY great. It's still an alright game, and worth playing, but it's a missed opportunity, totally. After all, I think I enjoyed it more the second time around compared to the first. I really do hope that Capcom stick to this first-person survival style for the next numbered instalment too. I fully believe it can be refined and implemented a lot better. Anything to save the franchise from the action shooter era of 4-6, instead leaving that for spin-offs maybe (I won't deny that it has its audience).

I'm still not quite done completely however with 7, as I now have the Not a Hero DLC to play through. Are the Banned Footage and End of Zoe expansions worth it? I would check them out for sure if they were free, like Not a Hero, but I'm not throwing down money willy-nilly.

Oh, I've ordered the Origins Collection for PS4 as well. I can admit I've never actually played 1 or 0 in the past (I just played the shit out of 2 and 3 when I was young, and lost interest in the series when 4 came out) so I'm looking forward to this HD remaster experience. What am I in for?
