Alice Cooper's Give The Kid A Break

Pretty much explanatory of my feeling towards Anno's trend of putting the cast (but especially Shinji) through hell.

don't question my judgement. You only reaped what you sowed. You cast your pearls before swine. And that's good enough for me

+1 on all the Radiohead suggestions. "My Iron Lung" in particular.

I have no idea why, but REM's "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" gives me strong Eva vibes.

I actually did a piano cover of this, although I haven't recorded it yet.

2 songs I've been listening to lately that remind me of Asuka and Shinji.

SOMETHING CORPORATE - I WANT TO SAVE YOU
https://youtu.be/Ynabb01_ELw
SPOILER: Show
standing on the edge of morning
scent of sex and new found glory
playing as she's pulling back her hair
she drives away
she's feeling worthless
used again but nothing's different
she'd stay the night
but knows he doesn't care

home by three
deafening quiet
the porch light's off
yes they forgot it
she'd cry herself to sleep
but she don't dare
and she wants to be a model
she wants to hear she's beautiful
she's beautiful

i want to save you
i want to save you
i need you
save me too
i want to save you

dressed by dawn and out the door
no light
she memorized the floor
so she could leave without being detected
she works till three
it's uniform
she dreams that he'll come by the store
she prays for days
when boys mean she's protected
and she wants someone to see her
she needs to hear she's beautiful
she's beautiful

i want to save you
i want to save you
i need you
save me too
i want to save you

and she won't sleep
she won't sleep
and she won't sleep
at all

i want to save you
i want to save you
i need you
save me too
i want to save you
(let me save you)
i want to save you
(let me save you)
i want to save you
(let me save you)
i want to save you

SOMETHING CORPORATE - KONSTANTINE
https://youtu.be/ZMwI1DlZpyY
SPOILER: Show
I can't imagine all the people that you know
and the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
and I don't understand all the things you've seen
but I'm slipping in between
You and your big dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams
And you tell me that its over
wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clovers
and your restless
and I'm naked
you gotta get out
you cant stand to see me shaking
no
could u let me go?
I didn't think so
and you don't wanna be here in the future
so you say the presents just a pleasant,
interruption to the past
and you don't wanna look much closer
'cause you're afraid to find out all this hope
you had sent into the sky by now had
crashed
and it did
because of me
and then you bring me home
afraid to find out that your alone oh
and I'm sleeping in your living room
but we don't have much room to live
and I had these dreams in them I learned to play guitar
maybe cross the country
become a rock star
and there was hope in me that I could take you there
but damn it you're so young
well I don't think i care
and if I hurt you
then I'm sorry
please don't think that this was easy
and then you bring me home
cause we both know what its like to be alone oh
and I'm dreaming in your living room
but we don't have much room to live
and konstantine is walking down the stairs
doesn't she look good
standing in her underwear
and I was thinking
what I was thinking
we've been drinking and it doesn't get me anywhere
my konstantine came walking down the stairs
and all that I could do was touch her long blond hair
and I've been thinking
but it hurts me thinking
that these nights when we were drinking
no they never got us anywhere
no
this is because I can spell confusion with a 'K'
and I can like it
its to dying in anothers' arms
and why I had to try it
it's to jimmy eat world
and those nights in my car
when the first star you see
may not be a star
I'm not your star
isn't that what you said
what you thought this song meant
and if this is what it takes
just to lie with my mistakes
and live with what i did to you
all the hell I put you through
I always catch the clock
its 11:11
now you wanna talk
its not hard to dream
you'll always be my konstantine
my konstantine
they'll never hurt you like I do
no,no,no,no, no, no, no, no, no
this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all the pretty things she did
hey
ya know
you keep me up in bed
this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all these fucked up things i did
hey
maybe
baby you could keep me up in bed
my konstanine
you spin around me like a dream
we played out on this movie screen
and I said
did u know i missed you(x7)
I miss you
and then you bring me home
and we go to sleep
but this time not alone, no
and you'll kiss me in your living room
I know
I know you miss me in your living room
'cause these nights I think
maybe that I miss you in my living room
but we don't have much room
I said does anybody need that room
because we all need a little more room
to live
my konstantine.
It's Ok if you hate me, I hate me too.

I listen to a lot of progressive rock and I'm a huge sucker for concept albums so I get a number of songs that remind me a lot of Evangelion. Obviously we have a lot of examples in Pink Floyds - The Wall. I have a few others though.

Genesis - Lilywhite Lilith
Lamb Lies Down On Broadway took a while to really click with me, a few songs on the album remind me of Eva but this one obviously because it has Lilith in the title. Main idea of the song is that the protagonist encounters a woman on his journey (Lilywhite Lilith) who leads him through the system of caves.
https://youtu.be/etakpPu_QJo

Marillion - The Great Escape
From the album Brave, which is a concept album about a girl who is found wandering on a bridge. It delves into her horrid past and culminates in this track. In the track the girl when faced with everything chooses to run away from it all and escape. Contains one of my favourite lyrics, Don't ask me why I'm doing this, you wouldn't understand, conjures up images of Asuka towards the end of the series really.
https://youtu.be/pQ74CwXcliM

Meat Loaf - Objects In The Rear View Mirror
One of my favourite songs of all the time, it's pretty autobiographical to Meat Loaf himself really but the concepts of it again conjure up images of Evangelions protagonists.
https://youtu.be/r7WVi-7me4I

Meat Loaf - Losts Boys & Golden Girls
This one always conjured up images of Shinji & Asuka on the beach after EoE.

In thinking about it I can't quite put my finger on it but for some reason "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring reminds me of Eva.

And to lesser extent so does "Self Esteem".

I feel like Sun Ra's Sun Song is perfect for Eva (For the record, it was an album I grew up with). It's hard to describe the whole mood of that album but the jumpy, out-there feel of the music is very fitting IMO. It's a classic album and I'd definitely recommend listening to it:

Bring Me To Life by Evanescence is perfect for Evangelion because of the overall mood and its association with the "emo" label, but I think I could also make it work on a literal level.

So, the opening lines are confusion about a penetrated AT field. There's a bit of confusion throughout the song about lacking a soul. Even though you still literally possess your soul when your AT field is broken, I think that, within the context of the song, that experience is described as feeling soulless, because it's hard to differentiate your soul from the other one.

..Well, I tried. Can we please put this in the end credits of the hypothetical live-action movie?

I always thought Spirituality by Strapping Young Lad fits End of Evangelion very well. Someone should make an AMV of it and then include Asuka at the end of the film saying *that line* (you'll know what I'm talking about if you watch listen to the end) over the original

What? Another Hevy Devy fan on the board? I think I just made a new friend.

I agree that a lot of SYL has a bit of an Eva vibe, mostly since it's a lot of raw, visceral anger involving loneliness and communication. "What the FUCK was that? I'm being completely rational. I'M NOT YELLING. In any relationship there's gotta be compromise. I know I have my issues, and we know you have yours! Put it in gear!"

I've been getting into this The Weeknd dude lately and am deeply disappointed there isn't a Team Blue AMV for this song yet (actual song starts about 2 min. in, but the whole video is great). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYO77zNhWl4

After watching the Happy Video Game Nerd review, I've recently become obsessed with the SEGA Saturn horror game Enemy Zero and its beautiful soundtrack, composed by Michael Nyman (Yes, that Michael Nyman). My favourite song out of the soundtrack has to be the third track, Aspects of Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENh_am7oLXE

It reminds me strongly of Air on a G String, so I often think of Asuka fighting against the MP Evas whenever I hear this song. (Incidentally, since the combat in the Souls games reminds of that same battle, Aspects of Love is my go-to track for when I'm repeating previous levels)

If I had to pick one thing I love more then Evangelion, it would be listening to music...god, there's so much to choose from...

A Means to an End - Joy Division (A song about losing faith in your friends)

Idioteque - Radiohead (A song about the apocalypse in a nutshell)

Disposable Heroes - Metallica (A song about soldiers being forced into war without any empathy from the higher-ups)

Jeremy - Pearl Jam (Replace Shinji with Jeremy and the view is changed)

Everybody Hurts - R.E.M. (The overall message of Evangelion)
Anywhere Can Be Paradise as Long As I Have the Will to Live...

...after all, I am Alive, So I'll Always Have the Chance to Be Happy.

For some reason, I've always associated this song with Eva, and it's made me enjoy the song even more over the years. Iron Maiden's New Frontier: https://youtu.be/QginRFLESHU

SPOILER: Show
Bleeding you dry from the start
The sum of my parts
To give it away
New life in a day
Some new Frankenstein
Damned for all time

Cursed by the angel who fell
Who saves me from hell?
And who is my god?
And where is my soul?
Too tired to jump too young to run

[Bridge:]
Neverending, forever searching
Chasing dreams, the dreams of my heart
Always seeking, always asking
Questions right from the start

[Chorus:]
Out beyond the new frontier
Playing god without mercy, without fear
Create a beast, made a man without a soul
Is it worth the risk - a war of god and man?
Is it worth the risk - a war of god and man?

I want to end my life now
But I don't know how
Recycled again a lifetime of pain
The spawn of a man
The devil has planned

[Repeat bridge, chorus]
