Wow this is old but it think i should bring it up instead of start a new one. Wow this kinda went off topic.
I might have laughed at that picture if i knew what the hell was going on.

Answering to the topic I think my best description of eva's meaning is this:

Evangelion is the exploration of the human Mind, heart and soul as one. Seeing our transgressions as we live life. What our problems are, how they affect us and the people around us, and how we solve them. How We affect the people around us.
All this in the form of a Mecha anime.

That is what i see in EVA.
