I love how incredibly irrelevant this whole discussion is.

this discussion has gotten confusing
all i wanted to talk about was the difference between Rei's Voice in the beginning of the series [dub] and the end of the series

and where was this dicussion moved to?

I'm a little behind in this discussion, to which of the several trillion continuity errors within the dub are we refering?

we're talking about how Rei talks normally in the beginning and then turns in a small whisper towards the end

I think I kind of remember that. And then when AWL did the Rei voice in the movie she went from whispering to just sounding hoarse all the time. Damn she's a horrible actress. I only watched the dub once but it was so traumatic I still remember it five years later.

Since you put it that way, I'm starting to get a better grasp on why I think AWL makes a horrible Rei.

it doesnt really matter, we're not talking about the actress, she only does what she is told to do as an actress.

AWL has been her own ADR director for parts of NGE, you know.

It's not ALWAYS the actor's fault.

Most of the time, though, it is.

It's NEVER a good idea to be your own director, unless you're like Clint Eastwood or something. Ego trip much? Plus, she strips at nerd parties.

AWL respect minus 1000000.

EDIT: Then again, it's hard to get worse than Mr. Spencer.

I definatly noticed AWL's voice attempted to sound more whispery and dramatic towards the end of the series, save for the horrid AU Rei of course, in which she went up an annoying octave.. Her syllables for certain words dub Rei stessed seemed a bit out of place as well....23' comes to mind, during Rei's enounter with...herself.
Hoarse is an adjective I second, when it comes to the movie. It transfered over to Yui, making it even worse. =<

I was under the impression that AWL -- along with the movies, of course -- did the voice direction for at least part of the TV series. Anybody remember something about this?

I thought she had only done EoE. :thinks of pudding sound-yuck:

I've heard it WAS for both the series and movies. Though I probably found such "information" on Leaky, so....

Edit: "Pudding sound"? Let me guess. Either this scene: Image
or when Misato kills one of the JSSDF (yeah, I probably wrote that out wrong.)

Rei's voice is very quiet and subdued, but she doesn't whisper or anything.

Seriously, listen to the Japanese track sometime. What's holding you back?

In DEATH, as well. It was one of the first things I noticed. Funny -- they were pronouncing it right before.

With EoE, the only scenes I bothered watching in English were fap-fap-fap, the Misato pep-talk/death scene, P3II (the only case so far where I was impressed with the dub's voice-acting, then Spike's "screaming" (and I use the term loosely) ruined it for me. Similar to the dub's take on the 22' mindrape scene.) and the final scene.

Yes, they say Eva VERY weird. >_< Is it that hard to pronounce things the same as the original version?! If they said right before, why bother changing it? Image

Reichu, about the Japanse version wrote:If you can't describe it, how do I know what to listen for?
I'm pretty sure I PMed you about this, but I guess the best way to describe is this (don't say I didn't warn you; I suck at explaining things.) Rei III's voice sounds somewhat softer(?), quieter, while Rei II sounds more emotional. It makes sense seeing as Rei II finally understands more or less just what emotions are, while Rei III has to start all over again. If you listen to the two voices side-by-side, you'd probably hear what I mean; it's subtle.
