Why do you people like Rei so much?

I have a feeling that lots of anime have implausibly developed minors for the same reason lots of action movies and computer games feature the Desert Eagle: somebody did it and got rich, so now everyone else does it too.

Yep, sex sells. And anime seems to have geared up to give all the lolikon with less of the guilt; which suggests that there's an otherwise unfulfilled market niche there.

Not that that really singles Rei out from the army of anime girls who have hit the screen before and since.

As for girls hitting puberty earlier--

It's disgusting but its caused by the crap being put into our food to make more of it. For example the hormones and shit put into cows to produce more milk is then being passed on through the milk to the victim who drinks.

So essentially every glass of milk we take we're being hit with natural and chemically produced growth hormones. Which is why more and more girls inexplicably underage start to lactate and go through their....womanly functions at younger ages.

On one side, there's the girl who looks older than her age - fantasizing about her could be explained away as "I didn't know she was too young..." And on the other side, there's the character who's way older than she looks, and since she's really an adult trapped in a kid's body it's okay to fantasize about her.

To me, this is a question better suited to Asuka. I never understood her appeal. Rei is more the girl next door than Red is, (although I'm more partial to Misato and Hikari myself).

I personally am only a fan of episode 23 Rei. long story short, denounces Gendo, embraces(not literally) Shinji, dies. Much less of a doll or a tool in that episode.

Yes, but at the beginning she is just a soulless doll and by episode 23 she develops a personality and loves someone and can think for herself.

I like Rei II because that's the Rei the series starts with (and it's sad when she kills herself to save Shinji! :cry: ), but I think I'm partial to Rei III because she really ends up betraying Gendo (ie: "I'm not your doll." ), and helps Shinji via Lilith.

...Rei I's just creepy, though it sucks that Naoko made her head a'splode. Least she (kinda) was able to get her revenge through zerogoki...until it shut down. (Yeah, I don't really like Ritsuko.) That episode 25 scene where it shows chibi-Rei's floating head of d00m from epis.14... *shudders*


@ Gendo'spapa: Dunno if you know this, but people don't need to drink milk anyway. There are other ways to get the supposed benefits from it.

Ritsuko's character always gets unnecessarily simplified as the series random Evil Scientist and Local Bitch, which is kind of unfair to her character, although I'm not much of a fan of her either.

I can see how that could be kinda unfair to him...Though I still don't like him. :x ...Or Ritsuko, despite that Evil Bitch Scientist is unfair to her character, too.
Meh. I guess it's similar to ANY of the characters being given unfair labels, really. Such as the 3 Children: Rei=Ice girl Asuka=Bitch Shinji=Gay/Wimp/Spineless/Dork/the list goes on and on... (Poor Shinji!) :(

One of the running themes of the series that really comes to light in Gendou's last moments is that Gendou and Shinji really aren't all that different. Shinji distances himself from other people; Gendou lets them get close, but he puts up an impenetrable wall of ice between them and himself (his own AT-field).

I love the irony in that show. Ritsuko -> Naoko, Shinji -> Gendo (thinking people hate them), Asuka -> Kyoko (attempting to kill herself after 0 synch ratio, "Mama" killing herself from going nuts after that nigoki accident and due to her husband having an affiar), Rei->Yui (besides Rei being both of them being in Evas (Rei I: zerogoki Yui: shogoki (duh)), physcial dead-ringers and obviously having a similar-sounding voice, what else is alike about these two? )
