Show him an AMV? Otherwise, if he's resistant to it you're just going to sour him on it and he won't want to watch it. People want to discover things, they don't want to be force-fed.

the prophecy is true
Statistical fact: Cops will never pull over a man with a huge bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees further than they and he will bind them with ancient logics. —Marty Mikalski

The best, indeed.
But OTOH, why bother? If he doesn't want to watch it (stupid or not), just let him miss out.

Another Impact and Mari vs Third angel are usually a pretty good way to get people interestd, especially if you don't want to spoil too much. But I agree with EM and hodges, if he is that driven away from the first scene, it might not be the best idea to force-feed him the entire show
EDIT: Ignore advice, I misread the question

I can see why Gendo hired Misato to do the actual commanding. He tried it once and did an appalling job. ~ AWinters

The movies function on their own terms. If people can't accept them on those terms, and keep expecting them to be NGE, then they probably should have realized a while ago that they weren't going to have a good time. ~ Words of wisdom courtesy of Reichu

The way this opening post ist composed is supremely funny to me.
LOL
(I've screenshot it, to have a good laugh on my hard drive)
You want him to watch EoE, has he watched NGE yet? If so his choice to refrain from seeing the "true" ending seems kinda baffling to me, but if he doesn't wanna, it can't be helped, I guess.
That or wait a few years for him to grow up a little bit.

There's always the option of skipping the first 4-5 minutes of the film. It's not like you're losing that much by doing so, as it keeps on tumbling down all the rest of the way. OTOH skipping the whole lets you keep the upbeat on-air ending unspoiled by the rather savage retcon that EoE represents.

Stupid people miss out on a lot of good things in life because of their stupidity.
End of Evangelion might just be one of those things.

You can lead a horse to water you can't make him or her drink so I think its best to just let this go some people will never get Evangelion or never want to because of its themes and you just have to accept it.
Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy.

show him the scene where Asuka kicks the butt of some EVAs extras, if I'm not mistaken it's the most viewed scene on youtube

Not to sound elitist, but do you think that your friend would even be able to enjoy the movie to it's fullest if he's "stupid"? I mean, the series as a whole is infamous for its confusing deeper meanings and concepts.
I do love me some Rei guns.

The harder you try to force somebody to do something the more they'll push back and the more they'll resent you. I don't think this is the best path to tread down.
Also I find people who judge their friends based on perceptions of their intelligence tend to overestimate their own.
