While red on white is a nice combination, I've never understood Asuka/Kaworu, since they literally never interact with each other in the series. The strongest connection they share is Unit-02.

Asuka did battle with Kaworu's Dummy Plugs in EoE, so there's a tad more of a connection there than many realize. (None of them are friendly, though.)

Tumblr is a haven of adolescent irrationality. Not that that's a bad thing, everybody goes through that phase, and I think it's great those kids have a place to live out those hormonally driven urges somewhat publicly without the need to bother people in the real world.
But to everybody at full thinking capability and the attention span to actually pay attention to what the show says, it's abundantly clear, that Kaworu could be the worst thing to happen to Shinji, and the only sensible ship's AsuShin.

To judge persons basing your opinion on their age is quite horrible.

AsukaShin it's an horrible shipping (is "shipping" a correct term?). In their relationship there's not a real communication, Shinji strangles her many times during the series. Their relationship seems to be full of "adolescent irrationality" (?). According to Tsurumaki (see Red Cross Book), "Eva is a story of communication". I think, during the series, Shinji seems to communicate only with Kaworu and Rei (霊 means "spirit"). He seems to feel a sort of spiritual love for them, as their represents unconscious (Rei) and jungian shadow (Kaworu) (see Anno interviews).

Anyway, ShinjixKaworu it's my favourite Eva-related ship/couple. IIRC, Anno said to June magazine that Kaworu it's a kind of "idealized" Shinji (http://web.archive.org/web/201407230618 ... -available). If I'm not mistaken there's a kiss between them in the (un?)famous first draft of "Saigo no shisha". I think Kaworu perfectly understands Shinji and his personal feelings; not surprisingly, Kaworu is described as "the first person to whom Shinji ever opened his heart" (Death & Rebirth special program book). Not the first person that he wants (I mean, physically, like in Asuka' case), but the first individual that he loves in the deeper sense of this term. Yeah, their relationship isn't a "mutual comprehension"; Kaworu perfectly understands Shinji, while Shinji doesn't understands Kaworu at all.
It seems perfectly legit for me to say that Shinji falls in love with Kaworu, but idk if Kaworu falls in love with Shinji, but he said:
"ありがとう。君に逢えて嬉しかったよ。"Thank you. I am glad to have met you." (http://www.animanga.com/scripts/textesgb/eva24.html translate this as "I am glad to see you")
But this, of course, doesn't confirm anything.

So, yeah, I think for the first time in his life Shinji perfectly and sincerely communicate with a person (ironically, an Angel).

Yeah, yeah, right. But consider that many people with "adolescent irrationality" ship AsukaShin too. Simply, it's a bad thing to "categorize" human behavior. Humans should try to understands other humans, not judge them basing on their age or something else. I think Kaworu himself thinks that way: love is this. He's the Angel of Jiyuu ishi" (自由意志), free will. I don't want to start an epistemological debate on this, but humans are not "determined" by any sort of scheme.

First, only teenagers have sexual "pulsions"? For me, it's quite uncorrect to say that all kawoshin fans are teenagers, and "full of hormones" (I'm using a common expression, not a your actual sentence).
Every teenager on earth has pulsions? (asexual teenager doesn't exist at all)

It is true that asexual people exist and not all kawoshin fans aren't teenagers,but,most of them are.You see,the majority of teens have a major hormone grow and they want more sex when they grow(especially for women) and they express that sexual desire by drawing anime characters that have their age''when their hearts become one''.

I'm down for some K+S magic, but then again I have this sense of thinking of the Eva-verse kids as being older than they actually are (not sure if it's because of the mature subject matter, the voice actors, or the fact that the Eva pilots were literally older than me when I first watched NGE).

Anywho, I see it like a burning candle, it's sort of there, interesting to explore, but not meant to last.

So, I guess the main thing with Kaworu x Shinji is its own limited nature and delving any deeper kind of distorts what NGE is (and by extension, what it isn't).

All that considered, I saw a some oddly interesting (not explicitly pornographic in nature) stories about them within that limited window. One that sticks out is one where Shinji is depressed and cutting himself and Kaworu cuddles with him and comforts him (granted, I read a few back to back in one night, I might be getting things mixed up...)

I wonder though are there any Shinji x Kaworu stories taking place in an ordinary version of the NGE-verse leading up to ep. 23 or 24's plot with the major exception being that Nagisa turns out to be human, thus giving some justification to continue existing in the story?

If not, then someone should most certainly write it!

I despise Shinji/Kaworu because of how ridiculously unequal it is. People think adolescents getting involved with adults is squicky and a lot of that has to do with the power imbalance. Kaworu is a 4+ billion year old space god squished into a teen-looking body. Maybe he doesn't remember everything about his previous life, but whatever awareness IS there puts him on a completely different level of existence from everybody aside from post-getting-her-shit-together Rei, and Yui too I guess. Plus as we saw, Kaworu willfully fucked up Shinji more than he already was; being emotionally entangled with someone who leaves you worse off is not healthy.
