Final Music

With the excellent and thought provoking music we've had up to the end of 3.0/Q I decided to go through my Refrain soundtrack again, and I thought that Everything You've Ever Dreamed would be a good choice for the ending music or song selection, possibly Instrumentality or other climatic moment for 4.0/Final. Any thoughts?

P.S.: I did Ctr+F and use the search engine to see if there was thread like this anywhere on the site and it didn't come up, but if there is I apologize in advance and politlely ask a mod to move it to the appropiate place. -o-;

Personally I would like to see them use Tamashii no Refrain.

Q had a new song to end. I imagine Final will as well, though I suppose it could just about reprise Sakura Nagashi, depending on how the story goes.

Re-arrange of previous tracks are enough for me. They've gone with new composition for vocal tracks so far and they probably will again in the final film. But if I had to choose a piece for the re-arrangement (that which wasn't actually used, like OP mentions), I'd say Eternal Embrace.

I'm hoping for a new Utada Hikaru song. BUT I could see them doing a remix of Sakura Nagashi

I hope for some rendition of Heisoku no Kakudai, and a good old fashioned Borderline Case mix to end it.

Oh God, that sounds absolutely awful. Never mind, just give me another Hikaru song. I just want more ear sex from her lovely, lovely voice.

Even though she's officially on hiatus, she probably will do another song if asked since she is a fan as well. Let's hope that they do, so we can get some new lovely tunes out of her.

If Final has a positive ending, an upbeat remix of Sakura Nagashi would be fantastic. 1.0 and 2.0 both used Beautiful World, so it would fit the pattern, too.

The more I listen to them, the more the Rebuild soundtracks remind me of video game music, especially with the need for epic choir in every 3.0 song. They also seem too... melodic? When you listen to a given track from any of the movies, it doesn't flow with the action in a natural way. The song follows its course like they wrote it and later decided it would go well with a given scene, instead of scoring the film after the fact. It's not bad music, but it makes me feel like I'm watching a video game cutscene instead of a high budget theatrical film. I really don't want to pick on 2.0, but it has the biggest issue with this; the giant monster attacks are given final fantasy music. There's no musical cues or any association with the onscreen action. They have this big 15 minute action sequence against one monster, but instead of giving the battle a coherent musical identity (bs term I don't know how to describe it) they wrote 4 completely different songs that were 'epic' and had them playlisted in the background as the boss changed forms.

What I want in 4.0, but am guaranteed not to get, is an actual film score.

I'd be happy to hear either Beautiful World remix or Sakura Nagashi remix as ending song (which is unlikely though)

You just say that because you want LAS XD

Nah, that song was very specific to the plot of the classic series, even referring specific events in the lyrics. Q Shinji couldn't choke Q Asuka if he wanted to - I think it's safe to say she could easily break him in two, especially in current, malnourished and sleep-deprived state.

Also, Rebuild has had lots of unique music so far, and the frachise can't keep ruminating old things if it doesn't want to get boring.

The most I'd expect in terms of callbacks is some classical music, not necessarily some we've heard before, just "random classical music while blood is spilled in a vaguely artistic fashion" as a typical EVA element.

As for the ending song, it could be a remix of either beautiful world or Sakura Nagashi, or something new entirely, probably still involving Ms. Utada. Or no ending song, EoE style.

Ending theme has to be Sakura Nagashi or something new.
