They won't, and they aren't. There's a legal definition of what a monopoly is, and Disney, huge as they are, doesn't fall within it.

See, the Eleventh Circuit of the US Court of Appeals has held that a "market share at or less than 50% is inadequate as a matter of law to constitute monopoly power." Once the merger with Fox is complete, Disney will control approximately 40% of the American film market. That's more than any company ever has in the history of cinema, but it's not so much that another studio couldn't conceivably rival them.

If Disney were to buy another media corporation, after they've already bought Fox, that would push them over the 50% mark and within monopoly territory. If this were to happen, they would then be subject to scrutiny by antitrust laws and possibly broken up. Disney is quite aware of this, and I don't see them making another major purchase for a long time after this one. Considering how much intellectual property Fox alone would give them, it seems a bit premature of them to make another big purchase so soon afterwards, when they already have so much material to play around with.

Additionally, now that Disney is as big as it is, they may not be interested in buying anything else. They already have, or soon will have, everything they could possibly want--and then some. They have the superhero market (Marvel), the sci-fi market (Star Wars, Avatar, possibly Alien and Predator if they decide what to do with them), and the animated film market (Pixar and in-house movies) all but dominated. They haven't had much luck lately with live-action films outside of those franchises, but that's probably why they went after Fox. At this point, considering all the pies Disney has its fingers in, the idea of them buying ANOTHER giant company when they already have Fox just doesn't make sense.

TL;DR version: Disney isn't a monopoly, and they probably won't be making any more big acquisitions after Fox, at least for a while.

If they want to acquire something else they’ll spin off something less profitable into a separate company. Anti trust laws are hilariously easy to avoid.

Plus, don’t forget: Disney quite literally dictates to the rest of us how copyright works. They have quite a bit of political pull.

Yes, but there are some legal ramifications that even Disney can't escape. At the end of the day, no matter how powerful they get, they're still a company and still subject to the same regulations as any other company.

As for the possibility of them buying another major movie studio after they've bought Fox? Forget about it. What Disney is interested in is franchises, and every purchase they've made in the past decade reflects that. Marvel? They needed a way to break into the superhero movie market. Lucasfilm? Their in-house science-fiction films were doing terrible, so they needed a reliable sci-fi franchise. Fox? Owns lots of franchises Disney would love to control (i.e. Avatar, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ice Age) plus the rights to all the rest of the Marvel characters and the distribution rights to the first three Star Wars movies. Buying another studio just for the hell of it doesn't fit in anywhere with that strategy. However, I do have a hunch of what Disney's next major purchase might be. I believe it will be. . .

Hasbro. Toys are the one sector of children's entertainment that Disney doesn't directly control, which means buying a toy company wouldn't increase their market share as a film company, so there's no risk of running afoul of monopoly laws. Also Hasbro controls a number of popular franchises (Transformers, GI Joe, My Little Pony). And as I mentioned before, Disney's strategy is focused on accumulating franchises, not simply buying up other companies for the sheer sake of it. It probably won't happen soon-- it may take 5 to 6 years before they've fully integrated Fox's assets into their own and broken even on their purchase, and they probably won't be ready for another before then. But if you see Twilight Sparkle as a Disney Princess in 2022, or Optimus Prime duking it out with Darth Vader. . . don't say you weren't warned.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

That actually makes quite a bit of sense. Doubly so that Disney has basically launched one franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean, that they didn't just buy, and it is now reaching the reboot phase as Johnny Depp gets too old/toxic and, frankly, the movies get increasingly terrible. I had the opportunity to watch the last one for free on streaming and I turned it off after ten minutes because it was so fucking boring.

I just hope that when they buy Hasbro they don't start their Transformers movies with the director or a cast member staring at the camera telling me I'm going to like the movie. Yes, I am still mad about that.

At least it won't be Michael Bay. Frankly, they can have Hasbro for all I care.

His run in the film meant I never wanted to buy a transformer toy/kit again as long as I lived...and I know people hate it when you say you ruined my childhood but he did as I loved transformers as a kid and I don't think the soft reboots gonna do any good I think the franchise needs putting to bed along with aliens, predator and the terminator then picked up again with fresh perspectives and new eyes 10 years from now.

God, as someone who loves Pokémon and played (and still plays) all the games I'm so hyped for this. This trailer showed such a fantastic world building that goes far beyond "let's shove the original 150 Pokémon in CGI and call it a day".

It feels like a real world version of a Pokémon City, and it's amazing.

The look of the Pokémon is clearly shocking because of how realistic it is, and there are some clear artistic liberties, but overall it looks really solid.

Did anyone else catch the instrumental music at the beginning? If my ears aren't deciding me, that's the theme from the title screen for Red, Green, & Blue.

To me, most Pokemon in this trailer look extremely jarring. Charizard especially looks kinda hideous. I really don't understand the aesthetic choices at all... To me, Pokemon should be bright and colorful, right? Why does this movie utilize all those weird fake image distortions like lens flair and stuff... Also I really hope that this is just another case in which this bog-standard; by the books Hollywood-trailer makes the product look much more disgusting than it actually turns out to be.

I am in love with the character designs. I mean, that Charizard jaw alone looks better than just about every hollywood monster in the past couple of years

I've looked around the Internet. I seem to be in the minority with my opinion on the Live Action Pokemon. I guess, it's me, then?

When I heard about this project and the upcoming Sonic... thing, I knew they had to be either great or terrible. It's just a trailer but this honestly looks like it could be what Ready Player One tried and failed to be.

Its ironic you say that because someone sent me this trailer and I almost didn't watch it because I got player one vibe in the first few seconds and they said no just watch it through fully and I did and it was way better than I ever expected. I guess that's my bad since I've become so used to watching trailers and going well that's gonna suck that one being good caught me by genuine surprise.
