Youtube to change its entire layout.

Either this Thursday or next Thursday youtube will be going through an entire change. Because it's merging with ABC or something.
So it may be down for a couple of days probably.

In the linked article, a YouTube exec used the term "best practices." That's a phrase from corporate-speak that can really grate on me, because its usage doesn't usually connote that you're actually trying to be the best. And, likewise, the details in that blog post -- mostly making YouTube more like Hulu -- don't really seem to be for the best. Considering how much money YouTube loses for Google, though, they have to figure out some way to make this work. Turns out streaming video is still expensive.

Of course and the more popular the site gets the more money it takes to run it. And youtube has gotten more popular over the years. As it's gotten more money more features have been added. Such as uploaded a file that can be a size of an entire gig, annotations, etc.

I wonder if we'll see a lot more features on youtube. We already know it'll have some of the hulu features from the article.

Oh dear, the rabble is ranting. While some of the points that are brought up may be valid, I find much of his ranting to be sensationalist fear mongering. While the focus of the site may be to allow creativity to flourish, in the end, it remains a commercial business venture. Stating that they've earned the right to do whatever because they have had a long tenure on the site ignores the fact that the bills must be paid somewhere.

Well, Youtube is losing upwards of 400 million dollars a year. So changes have to be made for Youtube to actually survive.

They put the option there so people could warm up to the new channel I assume before making it mandatory.
It's not that hard to navigate through it...
