The original novel would be ideal for a Westworld-style prestige adaptation. It’s not a happy fun story about how dinosaurs are really cool and venture capitalists are wizards until greedy fat men and lawyers ruin things. Plus they could actually adapt Crichton’s sequel, to which the second film bears only the most superficial resemblance. The movies spend a grand total of five lines on the actual themes of the novel.

At this point the film series is so bereft of creativity that they not only made a stealth remake of The Lost World, both movies have the word World in the title.

I’m convinced Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a mishmash if scrapped script elements and scenes that were written for other movies but never filmed, if they didn’t just grab an unused Jurassic Park 2 script out of a drawer and rename the characters, which is a distinct possibility. It’s painfully obvious that James Cromwell’s character was supposed to be John Hammond, not a mysterious business partner who’s never been mentioned once over the course of the four previous movies.

Or they'll just make this even though it was scrapped for good reason because this was what the Aliens franchise went for when it was dry off ideas https://io9.gizmodo.com/5950364/scrapped-concept-art-from-jurassic-park-4-shows-off-insane-dinosaur-commandos

What you mean to say is that they will make that like they should have in the first place, instead of soft rebooting the franchise with even less intelligence and a healthy dose of Star Lord and the Raptor Squad.

Hollywood should turn out more of these bugfuck insane pitches and fewer cowardly repackages of something we’ve already seen.

Maybe if they do that, they can put in some 2018-accurate dinosaurs.

I'm still unsure what the definition of fascism and cultural marxism is. It seemingly depends on who you ask. It's extra confusing since all those words do exist in German but have totally different connotations.
I vividly remember, when an American tried to insult me by calling me a socialist, while I was being oblivious af, because Socialism is considered to be a good thing where I'm from, lol.

Either way I have discovered that I've either gotten old / out of touch, especially when it comes to movies. Whenever people rave about how amazing a movie is, I end up being disappointed, because what other people seem to make something amazing is for me the bare minimum to pass.
Recent examples: Halloween 2018, Hereditary.

I think I know that feel. I've ended at the point when I shrug at everybody who wants me to grab my pack and go watch some new Star Wars movie - because I can open the Tube and watch this game video with the music by Two Steps From Hell. It lasts for some 8 minutes and the story told there is in my opinnion the pinnacle of the whole franchise, better than everything else.

Saturday afternoon movie that me and pops watched was The Meg (2018) on DVD.

I did like it but that doesn't excuse it from not having enough carnage on the human and animal counts, even Honest Trailers said that the Meg was a picky eater... :irked:

The biggest oddity would happen to be the Jonas/Suyin romance which wouldn't evolve beyond some flirtation scenes here and there and there were plenty of opportunities for them to get physical or even one kiss (no that CPR scene does not count).

Incredibles 2

You know when you watch something and oh what could this have been, if some one had just tried harder? If you'd just given it 100 percent and 60 that's sadly what this film is and its such a tragedy. I knew it could never top the first which I consider one of the best super hero films ever made outside of the marvel universe but it could have been just as good as the potential was there, but it gets utterly wasted.

SPOILER: Show
The first half of this film is painful I mean really painful and it doesn't make sense in places and it has a serious contiguity error as in the last film you got the impression though the house was blown up they got a new one but this is dropped in favour of them doing a contrived plot where the under miner (Who wants money which is bloody weird and makes no sense as I though his stance was about hated off humanity not him liking capitalism and greed) breaks a load of stuff up forcing them to pull super law and for the family to end up in a horrible motel.

This means they don't talk they just argue and its really horrible to watch its a forced conflict and it eases all the good the first film did to created deep family bonds and the idea of hero as family. Bob is not Bob in the first half of this movie he's so OOC, like the way he reacts to Helen getting the hero role is so not positive and really egotistic and borderline sexist and I refuse to believe he would act this way. Because I believe he would support and love his wife and kids in what ever they do and be truly happy for Helen getting that role. (As she was doing this kind of work before they were married)

The film also tries to play the gender politics card (And touch on sexism using both genders) but it doesn't understand what its doing and its not implied in the first film that women are ultra rare in super hero work yes there numbers are far lower but if the film wants to address this making it a gender war is not smart or clever in anyway, as you should be instead be reinforcing the idea that both genders are equal.

Hence why Bob supporting Helen from the get go instead of being jealous and bitter would have been so much stronger and his wall crawling could have been because he wanted to get out there himself but had to wait his turn. They could have even had Helen in this talking to media about the idea of more super hero young women coming forward and for those young guys in the shadows coming out to and it wouldn't have been out of place as she makes a similar statement in the first film.

And I was expecting the stay home dad Bob plot to be 80's terrible but it was better than I hoped and really sweet in places, though less said about Violets plot line the better who ever wrote that needs to be shot. Like I get the teens acting out but with her they take it to this level that reduces her character to being so flat and like every teen movie ever.

Its not the boyfriend plot its how she acts out it feels again so OOC much like Bob and I get her getting angry but not trying to destroy her suite or always crying it just gets annoying after a while as its a stereotype not a person and the movie never goes in to the deeper root cause. As its about more than her boyfriend loosing his memories its about things being out of her control and people who have that kind of power and screwing with her life.

Jacks, Jacks muti-power is a huge issue along with him trying to out right kill a Raccoon he's basically a Gary Sue and the writers seem utterly obvious to this and if they ever follow this up with any series or media this is going to be hugely problematic as he's basically going to grow in to the god of supers. I could under stand his power fluxing as he takes one but they take it to way to far with him being a Polymorph.

Which leads me to the really sad part the last half of this film is awesome its the part where the film is such a great call back to the original and the lead villains motive is really interesting and her point regarding how her father died has merit and this is the tragedy because had all the rest of this film been better this point could have been a real interesting one. In that super heroes can't save everyone sometimes people die they have to pick and choose and life events can stop them saving you.

Its a theme very few super hero films touch on because it's about conflict and choice and was so sad that it gets wasted here. I also wish her brother at the end had not been as happy when she's arrested as he should have looked really sad as what she did was the ultimate betrayal but she's still family which leaves a huge conflict as her brother is an idealist and she used his ideals to ruin his plans as he believes in the ideal of the supers

Like all the post Toy-Story 3 Pixar sequels*, I found Incredibles II to be perfectly enjoyable but empty. Like Monsters University, Finding Dory & Cars 3, the second Incredibles isn't a bad movie but it's one that has zero staying power and lacks that Pixar magic. It's pure Commerce Pixar and not Story Pixar. I have very lowered expectations for Toy Story 4.

The magic days of Pixar making nothing but great movies has long past and right now I feel we're in a time where we're lucky to get one great Pixar movie every couple of years - Inside Out in 2015 & Coco in 2017 being the only post Toy Story 3 films I'd call authentically great - as opposed to them hitting a grand slam every time at bat. I think we might not get another truly great Pixar movie until Pete Docter's - Monsters Inc, Up, Inside Out - next film in 2021.

*I always forget Cars 2 exists but that is for the best. It truly is awful.

No one remembers Cars 2 it was godawful....and they should have never let Lasseter make it.

I feel the enjoyable but empty is very spot on, but I don't feel its just Pixar to me it feels like all the great studio's are fading like Dreamworks only really has Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon and if they screw up How to train your dragon 3 it won't be good for them, though Dreamworks is working with Netflix so they do have a safety net.

Seeing Pixar fade through gives me a real feelings off sadness its like watching a person you idolized as a child/teen destroy themselves. Or you finding out they did something bad which kind of happened with John Lasseter which only adds to the sadness and the truly tragic part in my view is this could have avoided this if they'd just modernised like the other studios did but there just so set in there ways and not moving with the times and its really killing them.

So in the past few months I've seen a few movies, so here goes...

Murder on the Orient Express, the most recent adaptation of Agatha Christie's book of the same name. While I won't get into spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it, everything you need to know is in the title. I hold it against the 1974 adaptation starring Albert Finney, and the 2010 TV series episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot starring David Suchet. Kenneth Branagh's adaptation is very true to the source material, and I would put it on par with the two other adaptations I mentioned. It's ending is slightly different than the others, but is a minor variation of the solution to the crime as committed. The entire cast was great, and fit with each of with Kenneth Branagh starring in the title role, he's not quite as portly as Poirot is decribed in the book, but the characterization is very true to the books. The camera wok is also excellent, with most of the action taking place inside a train, so there's a lot of impressive camera shots worth praising. I would recommend for any murder mystery fans out there, or for anyone looking for a good movie. Also the sequel seemes to have already been planned out given the last line of dialogue in the film, and I'd love to see Branagh have a go at that movie as well.

Deadpool 2 was absolutely fantastic and I want to say its just as good as the first. The story was a bit outlandish, but if it wasn't it wouldn't be a Deadpool movie, would it? While some of the reviews said they were trying too hard with the humor, there was very little that didn't fit in the context of the movie, but nothing seemed forced. Josh Brolin was excellent as Cable, and Ryan Reynolds delivered again, and didn't miss any opportunity for a joke. The post credits scenes were also hilarious. And the final boss fight was very exciting, and certainly had a fun twist.

Hostiles, currently on Netflix in the US, stars Christian Bale as Captain Joseph Blocker, a U.S. Army cavalry officer who participated in the Indian Wars, is staunchly against Indians, and is known as a ruthless killer. As his last act before retirement he is ordered to escort a Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their home in Montana in 1892. The movie goes into an often ignored part of U.S. History in modern film making, something that is glossed over between the Civil War and WWII, and does a wonderful job portraying everything so realistically.

Hitman's Bodyguard was very funny and enjoyable, certainly worth a watch to see Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds verbally spar with each other, and they meshed well together, which also made the film more enjoyable. The film's plot is also fairly interesting, its been done before, but at least it was well done, even if at some points it was a bit cliched. Gary Oldman is once again a wonderful villain, who really sells his character.

And speaking of Gary Oldman, here's a great rewatch, Bram Stoker's Dracula. Still as great of a movie as I remember it to be when I first saw it in 1998, and it still holds up very well. The film doesn't feel like it's 128 minutes at all, it keeps moving but doesn't pack so much in that its just a mess of plot threads that never get resolved. As much as people say Keanu Reeves was bad in this film, his character is secondary to the plot overall, and his portrayal seems to fit what a lawyer out of his depth in the supernatural would be acting like. And again, Gary Oldman is wonderful as Dracula, and his fit of rage and sadness at the beginning of the film in renouncing god is still truly wonderful to watch. This is what film adaptations of books should strive to be, and I put this film equal to Interview with a Vampire as the best vampire movies out there. And yes, it has a better love story than Twilight (not that there's any kind of competition there).

Speaking of Crichton & book adaptions I re watched...
Sphere (1998)
Good but flawed for sure.
Main cast of Hoffman, Stone, Jackson & Schreiber all work well together.
Peter Coyote's character is cool & likable until he smugly almost mockingly interrogates Stone about her mental history in a moment that comes out of nowhere.
Good score.
Several unexplained things or inconsistencies like...
SPOILER: Show

- Stone states that the door to the ship is radiating heat and yet when they get inside it's icy.
Among other things.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich

In an unintentional meta way, this is probably one of the edgiest films ever made, in that it's a thematically non-edgy, soft, safe, sanitized Nazisploitation film. The edge loops full circle here, and I doubt anyone would see that coming. I sure didn't. Granted, the gore effects are insane and clearly lovingly-crafted, but no amount of blood geysers can hide how much of a limp-dicked affair the movie is as Nazisploitation. It's like a Nazi re-skin of some other killer critter franchise film. Like, imagine if Get Out had just been a film about a kidnapping and nothing else. Fucking hell, better not poke the bear; after all, if there's one thing horror fans appreciate above all else, it's non-controversial takes. Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich is probably best summed up by a particular scene where our protagonists briefly fight a literal Nazi frog, and the film can't even squeeze a sight gag or a topical one-liner out of the situation. What a let-down.

Man...I've been seeing so many movies lately, I think I lost count.

In terms of movies of what I last saw, I casually rewatched All Dogs Go to Heaven with some buddies. Movie's hold up pretty well if you ask me. Doesn't quite reach the highs of Bluth's earlier movies, but I'l gladly take it over the later movies. You guys seen most of his 90s movies nowadays? -shivers- I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of cynical young hearts.

Been watching a lot of directors' works too. Orion Welles is one of them: Saw The Other Side of the Wind when it came out, and I personally think it's one of the most emotional experiences I've had watching a movie in a long time. Do yourself a favor by reading the production of the movie, it's the stuff of legends.

Ralph Breaks The Internet

Okay so its not as good as the first one but its a good solid effort though flawed in a few places but worth seeing.

SPOILER: Show
I think the visuals of the web in this rock there clever smart and fun and show just why the Emoji Movie never got it, the flaw really is in Ralph and Vanellope friendship it feels like its treading old ground somewhat and the story for following your dreams in good but its all kind of ruined by Ralph doing something that's just so insane he doesn't want Vanellope to stay in the Grand thief Auto type game with the kindred spirit female driver Shank so he goes to the dark web and puts a virus in there hoping if the game is screwed Vanellope will leave....which later causes a web virus breakout.

Like yeah I know Ralph was the villain in the first one but I felt a virus was a bit much for him as a character since he knows what virus's are and that's what Turbo was in the first film and the people who give him the virus I never brought to justice they just get away with it. The Disney section in this is to much like to point that it gets on your nerves though the princess room kind of makes up for it along with the brilliant joke that none of the Disney princess's understand Merida because she's from Pixar is fucking hilarious its one of the best jokes in the film.

Also Ralph getting the put in a dress humiliation via being saved by the princess's at the very end is to much like he'd already apologised for it and it feels like the film makers are rubbing it in big time and its mildly problematic. Really wished in this there had been more of Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun as them not being there also left a big hole and there no great flashes to them trying to be parents which is such a crying shame.

All my nit picks aside though it is a really charming film and its brutality honest about the good, bad and ugly of the web it has some amazing characters who grow on you and it is the best film so far I've seen to explore the web and not sugar coat it and it gets web cultuer
