Then again, no one will probably find humor in this unless you had a dad who acts like that. I got a Dad who acts eerily similar to the Dad in this (he doesn't hate cartoons though, and he never took off his shirt whenever he wanted to talk to me), and I can't stop grinning whenever I see this scene nowadays; John's Dad must of been a hell of a person to hang around.

reminds me of a story I heard when I was shadowing my dad at his job, they have these robot arms, the kind they use in auto manufacturing, that they will test new products on, and some of the colleagues in Germany sent them a video where they mounted a standard office chair onto the arm and programed it to move around and spin the chair, they mounted seat belts and sent the plant manager on a wild ride, his head came within inches of the floor, he walked away unharmed. I'll see if I can find that video.
