Favorite Tom Cruise Performance?

So I love Interview With the Vampire but I also love A Few Good Men. Both movies were awesome in their own right but I feel Cruise did a lot to make me re-watch them over and over again.

But I want some other Cruise flicks to check out. I've seen the two movies I mentioned already, MI1 and 2, Tropic Thunder, Jerry Maguire and Valkyrie.

What would you say are Cruise's best roles? I've heard good things about Collateral.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan per se.....but I do often like the movies he's in.

My favorites (excluding some you've already mentioned) are:

Risky Business
Minority Report
Rain Man

Performance-wise, I think his best was in Born on the 4th of July....but it's too heavy a film for me to rewatch.

It's been a few years since I've seen it, but I agree that Born on the Forth of July is one of Cruise's better films.

I liked The Color of Money as well, even if it doesn't hold a candle overall to The Hustler.

Tie between Collateral, Tropic Thunder, and Minority Report.

He gets a bad rap for various reasons but he's a very committed, energetic actor.

Magnolia, notch. Though part of me thinks he was just playing a misogynistic version of himself.

"Top Gun", he was good at. So was "Rain Man". "Minority Report" is another good one. "A Few Good Men"- wow.
Though, most of his best performances was in the 80's and 90's in general. After that... a mix.

I honestly don't remotely like or care for Tom Cruise. But I was floored by his performance in Collateral. Jamie Foxx was great too. The way those two characters played off each other... hated each other, liked each other, and cut each other to the bone... it was chilling.
Unfortunately no one else I've ever shown the movie to has really reacted the same way. Everyone is usually pretty "meh" about that movie, but I loved it.
The only bad thing about the movie is all the mumbling. Without turning on subtitles you can easily miss so many subtle nuances in the dialog.
...and Catbus too!!!

Interview with the vampire, Collateral, A few good men, and the first two mission impossible.....still haven't seen the others. I used to be a huge Tom Cruise fan. I think the first movie I saw him in was Legend. Love that movie, though I think Tim Curry was the real show stopper in that one

You know, Anne Rice was pissed when he got the role of Lestat. However, I don't think anyone could do as good as he did. It was one of the best novel character portrayals I'd ever seen.
Maybe if you shut up and stop over analyzing everything you just might get it........

I would say Minority Report or The Last Samurai are my favorite Tom Cruise films. TLS especially, really loved that film.

I don't know what it is about Minority Report, but I absolutely love it. It is, by far, my favourite Tom Cruise performance.

Tropic Thunder. That bit at the end was truly exquisite.
