What was the saddest moment in a movie for you?

We all have those moments in a movie where we can't help but choke up a little because something very emotional happened to a movie. Yeah yeah, its just a movie, but you can't help but empathize with the people/things that this is happening to! It's time to share those moments with the Evageeks!

For me, it was when Will Smith in I am Legend had to kill his dog Sam. Yeah, people had to have their dogs put to sleep, but what if you were forced to kill the dog, who by the way helped you live through what would literally be hell and have known for most of its life, with your own hands? Yeah, sure, you were doing it so you wouldn't die as well, but... seriously, it is closer to killing a friend then killing another person (imo, no discussion). Also, it could be seen as symbolism. Since dog is considered to be "man's best friend", it would be similar to such. And the fact that the character has to go through thinking, "its only a dog.. its only a dog," is very heart-wrenching. That, to me, was the saddest moment in any movie. How about you guys?

Porkins ):

In all seriousness though, I think near the end of the anime film Metropolis is pretty sad.

Hotaru no Haka.
When Setsuko dies.

I always feel depressed when I remember that. :(

^THIS TOO.

Also, well, you may not agree with these ones, but I'll add 2 more:

-Card Captor Sakura- I just HAVE to say it, when The Illusion appears as Sakura's Mother, and Sakura just looks at her and starts crying saying "Mom?". LITERALLY BREAKS MY HEART.
- The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi- (spoiler tag just in case)
SPOILER: Show
Kyon's Speech about why Nagato did what she did. The music adds quite the bonus in the depressing effect.

^ I actually found tears swelling in my eyes when I finished Disappearance of Haruhi.
I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,

I totally did not shed manly tears at the end of Return of the King and Saving Private Ryan. Not a one.

Up, it's simply amazing how the single primary Pixar character most given to caricature, displayed some of the most true-to-life emotions.

(For corollary, see Toy Story 3).

I also wanted to say Bambi, but I think NC has a point.
