Favourite giant robots
Ok, we all love Eva, but do you like any other giant fightin' machines?
My personal favourites:
Gundam!
The first of the "Real" Robo & in many ways still the best. Notable for introducing many of the deeper story elements & complex backgrounds that have made mecha anime the great narative genre it is today. Also notable for the fact that there are probably more design variations of the Gundam than any other mecha anywhere & almost as many spiky, cycloptic, mostly green &/or red antagonist mechas. I have a hard time picking a specific Gundam, but I like the Zeta series, especially ZZ, Ex-S Deep Striker, Dendrobium Orchis & pretty much anything else with LOTS of guns, Heavyarms, Wing Zero Custom, DSHC, Epyon, Devil/Dark Gundam...and lots, lots more.
Mazinger
It was goofy, it was full of cliches & used enough stock footage to make the Power Rangers blush...but without it we wouldn't have Gundam, Eva or any of that other good stuff, so the big lug deserves a little respect. Plus he looks really dark & cool...even if his show isn't.
EX Gokin Getta Robo
I love the idea of a combiner who can combine into different robot modes, but the Gettas always bugged me because the transformations weren't really workable. Fortunately, they finally came out with one that actually looks realistic.
Brave Raideen
I just like the way his head looks, ok? And he was the first Super Robo to have a straight animal-to-robot transformation, oddly. You'd think they'd have come up with a simple thing like that before a cockamamie gimmick like Getta Robo, but Getta actually came first! I also love his God Voice attack. It's a great boss-killer in SRW.
Combattler V
The first 5-man(well, 4 men & a woman) combiner. I've always had a thing for 5 piece combiner robos. Interestingly, Combattler used the "Stacking" combine method that was later recycled in his "little brother" Voltez V & then largely forgotten. Voltez had a better storyline, but I think the robot itself was rather unattractive. His head looks like a seashell or something.
Psybuster
He's like a cross between Raideen & Nu Gundam, combining the best elements of both while remaining an original & beautiful machine. Plus his pilot is hillarious. I love how Masaki's always making wisecracks instead of angsting over every little thing like SOME pilots we know...
Escaflowne
Proving once again that there is nothing that cannot be improved by adding mecha. Who could resist a sword & sorcery/romance story with giant robots in it? Plus his dragon mode is nifty.
Dunbine
Another fantasy mecha story. Sleek, biomechanical & they look like giant bugs! How cool is that?!
Patlabor
Mecha with a badge! The most appealing thing about these guys is that they're just so down-to-Earth & believable. You can actually see someone building ones just like 'em. Who knows...maybe in a few years...
Jeez, that was long...& there are so many more, but I'll leave that for another day.
Anyone else have anything to add?

2:34 And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.
Giant robots with angels trapped inside of them,
Teenaged pilots & an evil organization,
Doing battle with giant monsters from beyond,

Evas don't count their mostly biological.
Isn't Tranzor Z Mazinger Z's english name?
They sure did love changing the mechas names back in the old days, didn't they?
Tetsujin 28 became Gigantor, Getta Robo became Starvenger, Grendizer became Goldrake...
I wonder what they would've called Gundam if he'd came out back then?

Wow, that was a bag of classics! Haven't seen most of them, although know something about this and that. One question, was it Voltez the one that kind of fueled Indonesian revolt against that dictator and his shoe-fetish wife?

The Sandman wrote:I said it before and I said it again Gundam, Gundam, and Gundam. The real question is what favorite Gundam? For me it's Wing Gundam. Also Deathsycthe is definitely badass.
I love the Deathsycthe, it's a great mech design, but I'm not so fond of Gundam Wing in general. If you had said "Zeta", then you'd have been talking my language. As far as I'm concerned, the actual Zeta Gundam itself is one fine-looking Robot.

Full Metal Panic, because it's the only one I know of that has mechs with incredibly long and cool-looking silver ponytails.

As you can tell from my Sig I love Gundam, Gundam Wing is my favorite anime of all time, and Wing Zero is the daddy of all giant robots it is just so freaking cool, I wanna see a mix between the one from the series, and Endless Waltz like have the body from EW, but get rid of the wings and put the old thrusters on and the shield and there you go, I've been watching SEED and SEED Destiny wich is pretty good. G Gundam (DBZ ripoff). SD Gundam...................................... MUST BURN IN HELL, Gundam 0080 boring as hell all they did was talk. I like Zoids, Big O was alright. I am in love with the Armored Core games I wish the Gundam games could contol and play a lot like AC and I think it would make for a much better game.

Do the Tachikomas from GitS count? Sure, they aint giant robots, but they're so cute! And they pack quite a bit of firepower.

I don't care for Eva-elitists. I don't know everything, and neither do you.
