What I'm wondering is if the dub of Digimon will keep the original Japanese names for the sake of authenticity, or if they'll make the characters names the dubbed ones for the sake of appealing to the American Nostalgia market this is clearly aimed towards.

Acknowledge, or ret-conn?

I'm wondering if the series will acknowledge what was touched on at the end of 02.

That being, every single person in the world got a Digimon.

Kind of hard to portray the Digi-destined as "special", if literally everyone and their sister is just like them.

I would like to see the "Dark Ocean" Realm/Innsmouth, and Dagomon make a comeback, but I don't think Chiaki Konaka is around, so... :raincloud:

I still say the dark ocean episode is probably my favourite 02 episode, shame it never went anywhere.

I think they'll pretty much be discarding the event's of Season 02 and making it take place in an AU where the events of 01 happened but the events of 02 didn't.

Which is kind've a shame. Because I did like parts of 02, (Cody was my favorite new character). It's just a shame the series fell apart at the seams towards the end like it did. If it means a better overall product, then like Star Wars episode seven and the new Dragonball series. I guess I'll just have to live with a few characters I like not having actually existed in Canon.

Can our resident thread surgeon merge this discussion with the Digimon thread? [Done. - Monk]

I think it's more fanservice than anything concrete. If 02 characters do show up they'll probably be supporting characters to the mains/glorified cameos.

Or they'll retcon the ending of 02 by showing an alternate version of the finale in the first fifteen minutes of Tri.

Just to note, Kari and T.K. are wearing 02 middle school uniforms. That seems a bit of an odd choice if they're planning a continuity break.

Wow! So that explains the delay, I won't lie I'm even more hype now. I guess my childhood wank is getting movie quality animation, hopefully they will be decent and won't be a waste. finger's crossed

The answer as it turns out is "sort of". Other digi-destined are still acknowledged to exist, even beyond Mei.

T.K. is seen conversing on a worldwide network for digidestined.

Ergo, were where the franchise was mid 02 with digi destined popping up everywhere, but not really the "everyone in the world" scenario.

good news guys!

Fathom events is going to show the first Digimon movie on the big screen.

and the cherry on the cake as they managed to get most of the original English dub cast from the original series back.

Josh Seth and Mona Marshall are reprising their roles as Tai and Izzy. Mimi, and Sora's VA's return too. Most of the original digimon voices are back.

Matt's original voice actor retired so they're replacing him with Vic mignogna. Joe's abd Teen TK was replaced too. Kari's VA wanted to reprise her role but was unable too due to a busy schedule, but the girl they got to voice her does sound very similar so I'm not complaining.

The characters are now thinking about the moral implications and consequences of their actions, rather than just focus on crushing the bad guy

If you were to ask me what it was that possessed me with such a desire to re-watch the Digimon Adventure series I saw when I was younger, I couldn't tell you. Before now my memories of Digimon were not fond, the dubbing in the show was terrible, to the point were I hated the vast majority of the entire cast.

the dub was okay for its time. but quality and Fidelity to the source material was never on top of Saban's priority list.

but yeah, you should take the classic dubwith a good dose of nostalgia . Except Tamers, the dub for that was the bomb.

Apparently The third Digimon Tri movie (Confession) is going to address some of the continuity issues between Season 02 and Tri.

Such as
SPOILER: Show
What happened to Davis, Cody, Yolei, and Ken. Where Meikomon fits in all this, why the 01 cast doesn't remember what happened at the end of the series, and the secret Identity of the Digimon Kaiser.

Joshua Seth talks about his return to Dub Tai.

http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=d66 ... 13bc5e8836

Joshua Seth wrote:With all the negativity on social media these days, I was prepared for a wide range of reactions to my return as Tai . But amazing as it may seem, there was a 100% outpouring of happiness and support across all social media.

Does that even happen anymore?

Thanks to everybody for your enthusiastic support. It's been years since I did the Hollywood voice over thing. It's good to be back!

So, I've watched the third TRI movie. (a.k.a. cry, bitches)

SPOILER: Show
Man, that was a sad one. Still, I like the overall direction of the story and the writing a lot. T.K. and Izzy were great focal point characters - I felt both of them were very believable in the mistakes they made. Both of them failed to communicate in hope it would be better if they managed the shit storm on their own. The Digimon were cute as always, too. Next up should be Sora and Kairi, which I'm extremely curious about... Especially now, that they are in the Digiworld. The plot has begun to move, and man, is it a ♥-wrenching one. I'm still curious to see, how they'll tie that into the cast for season 02, and especially if the ending of 02 is retconned. I just wished it would look at least a little bit more like a movie, quality-wise.

I've also watched the new Appmon show. (a.k.a. Tame the Fusion)

Appmon takes the franchise into an interesting new direction. It felt like a weird yet engaging mix between
- Gatchaman Crowds’ very current depiction of how people use and are affected by the internet (without the overt critical undercurrent, of course - this is still Shonen),
- EvangelionQ-esque relationship between the two MCs (including a conversation that’s framed almost the same way as Kaworu’s and Shinji’s in Q in which Kaworu takes off Shinji’s choker),
- A parallel world reminding me of C - the money and soul of possibility control (the weakest of nakamura’s shows, but still cool and definitely high-concept) and also X-1999,
- Also how dependent people are on technology and if one thing fails a lot goes haywire reminded me a lot of .hack… But in Appmon the consequences aren’t that apocalyptic, of course. (at least, not yet)
- Also Dennou Coil might be the better version of this show... But it's not Digimon, so who cares, lol.

Might be the second coming of Tamers, as it seems to take a lot more cues from that season, than any other (which is a good thing, because it is my favorite) f.e. that it’s set in the real world, the feint horror elements, the creative way of interpreting Digimon as a franchise and the focus on individuals instead of a group. Also they've taken some cues from Fusion in the structure and the fat pace of the story.

There's a lot of things going on, idea-wise, but overall it worked for me. There’s some visual comedy that really sold me. (A bad guy using a Wi-Fi sign as a spring board) It felt fun, engaging and cohesive and the leads were instantly likable. Then again, I remember also liking the first few Episodes of Fusion, so who knows. It generally looks like every other kids shows nowadays, so it does not boast a very distinct visual personality. Also, it's sadly not nearly as beautifully animated as the coming Pokemon series. I’m especially sad, that the stock animation is by far not as cool, as I’d like it to be. I want it to be so cool, that I wanna watch it over and over! I admit, that the Sound Design for the App-Link sequence is nothing special, but rather cool.
The Digimon designs are kinda cool, I guess, though I was never a huge fan of making them look more like tanks than like fluffy pets.
