Lionsgate is in negotiations with Michael Gracey to direct an adaptation of the popular
Japanese manga series “Naruto.”

The studio has closed the rights deal to the series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto
first published in 1997. The manga, which has sold more than 200 million copies in print
follows adolescent ninja Naruto Uzumaki, who dreams of becoming the village ninja,
community’s protector and leader.

Avi Arad is producing through his Arad Productions. Erik Feig, Geoff Shaveitz and
Kelly O’Malley will oversee for the studio.

And like every other Anime to Movie adaptation, I guarantee it's going to Suck Cahones. Assuming it doesn't fall into development hell and isn't produced until the film rights are about to expire.

Let's remember what happened the last time a film studio tried to make an English-language adaptation about a character who could form a blue ball of energy and blast things with it.
SPOILER: Show

Why can't all adaptations be like Edge of Tomorrow?

You know, actually good and faithful to the source material?
"....Bang." -Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
"Shorty?!? Can a shorty do this?!?" -Edward Elric (FMA)
"I've had many lives, many faces. But there is one face I try to forget..." -The Doctor (Doctor Who)
"So say we all!" -Admiral Adama (Battlestar Galactica)
"The only impossible is impossibility!" -Phineas Flynn (Phineas and Ferb)
"Screw you guys, I'm going home!" -Eric Cartman (South Park)

Edge of Tomorrow was an okay movie. But faithful to the source material it was not.

Well, the manga already sucks and has dragged on for so long that only the most devoted fans are clinging to its rotting corpse, so I can't imagine a film rising higher than the scrapheap.

The death note movies i thought were pretty damn good especially the 2nd one, has an actual better ending than the manga.

Actually I didn't like those very much for various reasons.

The live action Boogiepop phantom movie was good though.

Really? And now, of all times? I thought Naruto went out of fashion years ago.

Every AMERICAN produced Anime to movie adaptation it's going to suck Cahones.

Why now? The manga proper ended about a year ago. Lionsgate should have struck while the Iron was hot.

Well to be fair, that was a cycnical production the studio quickly threw together in order to avoid losing the licensing. It wasn't meant to be good, just a placeholder to serve a legal end.

A better comparison would probably be Speed Racer, or Akira if they get around to it.

That's probably what this one is going to end up being.
