The point of an iyashikei show is to generate a relaxing mood, and nothing else. Flying Witch excels in that regard, if you want anything else out of it, you're watching the wrong show, unfortunately.

It was relaxing at first, but it's become boring which is not the same.

This reminded me of the scene in which Eureka draws the heart in that book. So corny! Yea, I wasn't planning on watching that AO, and hadn't ever really looked into it. Fifty episodes is enough for me.

I could see where you're coming from. There have actually been times when I've been watching and have thought something along the lines of "this could be boring if I didn't dig it." And I couldn't really get into the bee/tree episode but the cute moments and the shocked silly faces are what really make me happy about the show, and get me to look forward to it each week.

But, dammit, that title is false advertising.

Looking forward to that and High School Fleet and Kiznaiver to (hopefully) finish strong. Then BRING ON LOVE LIVE SUNSHINEEEE.

Watched that Ergo Proxy over the last week, and basically found it to be right up my alley, though the deeper meanings of heavier works tend to go way over my head on the first viewing and this one wasn't much different. I'm an idiot, oh well. But I felt that the show had a certain style(goth-y or something) that had me really happy just watching it. The character designs (Re L and Vincent's outfits, Pino's animal suit) were some of my favorites in an animae, and the idea of all of these domes in an otherwise barren landscape made for a really great concept. Especially loved the nuttier episodes, i.e. the quiz show, Smileland, and the one with the dopplegangers or whatever they were. Definitely looking forward to rewatching this one down the line.

And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.
and thank you so much for everything!!

Finished Death Note a few days ago. I enjoyed it overall, though I did have a few issues with it. Mostly in how it would go ridiculously over the top on ordinairy actions and I couldn't take some scenes seriously as a result.

Finished Up Fujiko Mine after a while of putting it off. . . and while I wouldn't say I walked away disappointed. I will say, I was expecting more. The Final twist was kind of a let down. For me personally.

The Twist  SPOILER: Show
The reveal that the girl called 'Fujiko Mine' the one we had spent the whole series getting to know, feel sorry for, see nearly cross a moral event horizon several times. Wasn't the real Fujiko Mine . . . really made me mad.

and I guess I understand why the director decided to do this. I mean Lupin is a brand, and you can't change the characters too much or risk alienating long time fans. But come on, you were already deviating so much from the 'typical' Lupin III formula, with all the drugs, violence, secret occult organizations, sex, political intrigue, and trippy LSD visuals, you could have gone that extra mile and made it so much more compelling and satisfying.

and the Lupin Crew really could use some fleshing out. They've been around for 50 years, and there isn't a really 'definitive' origin story for them. This series came close, but the final twist makes the whole thing fall short for me.

Tiger And Bunny: The Rising

It's no Cowboy Bebop the movie. But as far as Standalone Anime films go, it's a nice distraction. But there were so many missed opportunities here that I felt could have been improved with a little more running time or some more additions.

It's a bit all over the place as far as story, tone and characters go. Like, there was no real reason to have Lunatic in this movie aside from fanservice, he shows up in the final act and reall does nothing. Kaede, Tigers daughter shows up and she has the power to have the Superpower of any NEXT she touches, and she's pretty much sidelined. Which is a shame, I really wanted to see her cut loose, I wanted to see how powerful she could be.
and this doesn't really do anything to wrap up or flesh out the Ouroboros plotline from the series. The superpowered terrorists trying to destroy the city to fufill a prophecy aren't connected to Ouroboros. I guess theres only so much you could do with the running time.

What really holds the movie together are two things. One is Tiger trying to move on from his hero career after being unfairly let go. Kotetsu is at the end of the day, just an average joe trying his best to be a good role model and not always suceeding despite his powers. His skills are what get him get kicked off the show, because he can't do his job as well as he used to because of his age.

The Other is Fire Emblems trippy nightmare sequences, showing his origins and how he struggled to come to terms with both his sexuality and his powers as a NEXT.

If you ask me- writing in a notebook and eating crisps can’t be taken seriously without dynamic, over the top animation and a choir singing in the background.

Kiznaiver ep 9 was a good one. The only thing missing was the Adagio for Strings near the end.

Kabenari ep 11

I knew it; excellent time for gun-arm. It's like, demanded if it's steam punk, and a character loses an appendage. Time for an upgrade.

I finally stopped putting off Michiko & Hatchin and burned through enough of the show to conclude the two-parter bull-fighting episodes. That show can get pretty heavy relatively quickly, and then just as quickly go for a few episodes of lighthearted fun. I'm really kind of loving the show's execution of its narrative dancing through these extremely diverse emotional tones.

Also, the show has yet to reveal a tattoo on Hitchan's person matching the one of the photograph. This worries me on several levels.

Captain Earth episode 6-7

Looks like the statement I made previously about Daichi and Hana being stale protagonists is rescinded after watching these two episodes that focus on them. SO glad the Salty Dog antagonist got what was coming to him after being a nuisance to the kids for so long, looks like the story's starting to pick up speed and go full blast which is stellar.

Kabaneri Episode 11

The show has really become predictable and cliché. I'm pretty sure I saw the entire plot of this episode in reddit speculation 2-3 weeks ago.

If there is one decent thing about this show, it's probably the sound design. Hiroyuki Sawano is wasted on this.

Ezra Bridger got it right (though it took Kanan to bring out the weapon's full potential). Biba's just some wannabe Hitler who doesn't appreciate his toys.

The season is ending so let me give a few brief impressions of the shows I watched so robersora isn't the only person that does it(please keep doing those big posts robersora, they remind of better days when this subforum had more activity)

Without further delay:

Sansha Sanyou: The best "cute girls doing cute things" show of this season(I'm not including Flying Witch in this list), witch isn't saying much, considering its competition.
This one started really strong, with a strong main cast and a surprisingly fluid and detailed character animation carrying it for the first three episodes or so. Unfortunately the rest of the episodes aren't so good. The animation remains consistent but the side characters introduced are very one note and replay the same jokes over and over.
I should mention that it has an absolutely fantastic OP.

Anne Happy: The competition I mentioned earlier. The characters are mostly one dimensional but the wacky scenarios introduced try to inject some energy into the old formula. A noble attempt, but I wouldn't recommend this one.

Pan de Peace: The last of the "cute girls doing cute things" group. It's complete garbage. That's all.

Flying Witch was a joy all the way through. Watching our main cast move through ordinary and not so ordinary scenarios was great fun and, aside from one episode(the one were the loli follows the cat) it never faltered.
Fantastic OP and soundtrack as well.

Netoge nowhocareslongtitle and Hundred were the harem rubbish of the season that I still watched because I have too much free time I guess.

Maiyoga was stupid and fun but the latter episodes were a little too slow for my tastes and didn't quite have the same degree of silly stuff happening. It's odd style of comedy isn't for everyone though.

Kiznaiver: This anime had so much talk surrounding its release because of the studio and writer it was unavoidable it was going to disappoint some. Not me though, I expected it to be slightly above average and it delivered.
I'm not going to speak about the story, it's the usual "people trying to connect with each other" stuff. That's fine. What's not fine is the bland characters that all inexplicably fall in love with each other because the plot demands it. Was I supposed to care? Are there unreleased episodes that show more of these characters backstories? The male cast suffers worse than the female one in this department.

But hey, I said it was above average didn't I? We have the visuals and directing to thank for that. Kiznaiver is a good looking show and a few of the latter dramatic reveals are quite nicely executed, just don't expect any more substance out of it or you'll be disappointed.

Haifuri: No stakes the anime. Was I supposed to care about any of this?

SPOILER: Show
Boohoo, their boat sank in the end, cry me a river. Maybe you could have actual deaths happening and some shady conspiracy going on in the background instead of SPACE RATS.

Atleast the OP and effects animation is good.

Bakuon: Cute girls riding motorcycles. Laughed constantly with this one, it had some great character interactions. It also has a decent amount of fan service so be aware of that.

Kuma Miko: A little girl getting physically and emotionally abused, that's it.
I loved every single moment.
It also has one of the best endings of the season with

SPOILER: Show
the main character giving up on her dreams and regressing to a childlike ignorant state

Concrete Revolutio: The second season wasn't as strong as the first(mostly because of some sub par stand alone episodes) but the ending concluded the series wonderfully. Getting into this one might be a little though but it is worth it.

Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou: You don't need to like DJs to see this one. It's short, fun, funny and has some great characters(Oily-San is the best). I recommend it.

Super Lovers : Gay people doing gay things. It sucks.

I watched way too much garbage this season. I also watched anime that isn't from this season but I'll probably speak about those ones on another post.
But it ain't over yet! I'll do another post like this once all the shows are over and show my terrible taste in anime to this forum one more time.

I think Kiznaiver ended way too quickly for its own good. More time to focus on the characters would have been better than the ending, which ultimately felt rather rushed.

Well, my roommate had never seen what is probably the second most infamous "Eva clone" and we're watching Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure together! I'm even making Japanese style curry tonight for our continued marathon. Also, how come the forum has multiple 100 post topics discussing Rahxephon vs Eva but Dual only ever gets little mentions! Has anyone even ever brought up Platinumhugen Ordian even? That's kind of the third in the holy trinity of Eva inspired shows for me.
