No, not at all. She was designed by committee in the lead up to 2.22 and they literately had no idea what to do with her when 1.11 ended, just that she would exist and do... things. Probably.

Skimmed that thread. Got the gist that the piece that featured Mari was just about as close to canon as that manga where all the characters are gnosticism-themed mahou-shoujo. So, less crazy than it seemed at first.

I don't think she'll get her thing as long as Asuka is around and Mari works as her extension.
I didn't feel like arguing over everything but that's just production and ideas for gay mains were lingering in the tv show only to be quickly dealt with, then again I get it mari cannibalizes on the existing stuff because everything is already fleshed out: Kaji lines, glasses motif, Asuka roles, stuff, likely later gay things kaworu is not needed anymore for.
The ballsy move of introducing a game changing character later wasn't really for the story mostly shared with nge, Q and final Idk Asuka is still busy setting a stage for Mari.

So, were British Girls trending in Japan that year? Because otherwise I see no reason for a committee to decide on that nationality- Oooohhh, this is a clever reference to "The Committee" from NGE. I get it.

Regarding RahXephon, I don't understand why it copying Evangelion is a controversial opinion. I thought this was generally the accepted opinion. Whether the argument has merit is an entirely different subject, which I won't rehash again for everyone's sake.

Quite common; but not, I think "generally accepted".

Rebellion is a nicely animated, superbly scored trainwreck that undoes all that was wonderful about PMMM.

I saw 3 episodes of Himouto! Umaru-chan and I am convinced that slice of life anime is now dead. I'm not saying Miyazaki is always right, but there is no hope for anime that involves characters being obnoxiously cute.

That said, I also think The Devil is a Part-Timer! is propaganda for NEETs in Japan to work and eventually move out of their parent's house.

That some anime titles are covert public service announcements is without question (see also "I can't understand what my husband is saying"). Some are even blatant about it like the "SexEd for 30-somethings" title of a few years back.

That's because EvaXephon did such a fabulous job at poisoning the well, causing ridiculous knee-jerk reactions on both sides of the argument. Combine that with RahXephon being arguably the most popular of "Eva clones" (a term I don't use derisively), and the topic becomes a one big bog.

Controversial Opinion: I still hate Attack on Titan the anime - it's just ugly - but I saw the first live action feature film on the big screen & while I know it's nothing remotely approaching a good movie I honestly had a good time.

Huh, so the similarities I sensed between M3: the Dark Metal, and Anohana probably weren't incidental. Mari Okada wrote both of them apparently.

There's also visual tie-ins, both series seem to like putting their cast by a bridge, and both have a central figure in the form of a ephemeral girl in a white dress.

No, that *isn't* an endorsement to watch M3. Do so only if you like Mecha, are somewhat bored, and are prepared to be "meh" by the ending. Wait a minute... Anohana's ending was my only beef with that show... OKADA! WHY U NO GOOD AT THIS?!?

I think I said this before but I am gonna say it again. Imaishi's works are too frenetic and wacky for me to take seriously however I do concede that his shows have heart, sincerity and thought places into them. I might be an apologist about it though.

I've rewatched 5 Episodes of Kill La Kill recently, and I can see where you're coming from. For me, his style is the only way to make Shonen-Shows accessible to me without sleeping away due to boredom.

I haven't seen HunterXHunter, though.

*Bustgunner is much better than the Evangelion series. End of Evangelion exceeds it solely on moral grounds.
*Princess Mononoke feels like it's an edited down version of an even better movie.
