Can't tell if serious or joking. . .and Japan is also cracking down on Piracy.

How about CNN leave artists alone and make a news article about REAL pedophiles exploiting REAL Children in places like Thailand and Mexico? Oh right, that wouldn't stir the Sh*t pot and get them viewers.

I doubt anyone but me and maybe a few others will make a stand and speak out against it. Because were afraid of defending the worst thing a human being could do to another. Because they're afraid if they defended their hobby, we the ordinary folk who understand the context of artistic expression and would never hurt a real world human being (much less a child) will be lumped in with the sickos who would and will hurt others regardless of what they read.

This is we can't have nice things people! A few monsters ruin it for the rest of us.

Ps: Did you know invader Zim got cancelled because a Serial killer said he was inspired by it?

Everytime that kind of media douchebaggery comes up, it makes me sick to the stomach. Asides from trying to win more Nielsen ratings artificially, it's like these idiots want people to come out and arrest anyone possessing any form of Japanese culture, regardless of whether the content is offensive or not. Or persuade parents to raid their kids' rooms and toss out that hard-earned manga collection.

Asides from manga, H-games got hit up badly (and their sites now use IP blocking thereafter) after a bunch of soccer moms got a rather obscure title on the basis of the cover and synopsis, and then go public with the fucktarded "expose" that the game is "on American storeshelves". This sensationalism affected even legitimate non-H titles.

Even before that -- around early 90s -- there was Fox News calling Urusei Yatsura as "the new wave of Japanese porn".

And the late unlamented (if I recall correctly he was executed about a couple of years ago) Tsutomo Miyazaki fucking started all this shit.

So in that country that calls itself democratic, the Scarlet Letter moral panic forces fans to keep the material -- any form of Japanese media -- to themselves out of fear. Or quitting Japanese pop culture altogether.

Happens in Canada and Sweden too, among other places. I'm not supporting the bans, but just to say, the "moral panics" aren't unique to the U.S.

^The Swedish guy was acquitted of all his charges by the supreme court two years later. While that was going on I distinctly remember the media being mostly supportive of the guy, interestingly enough.

You know, maybe we should take these idiots and expose them to the very best of anime and manga- Ghibli movies, Evangelion, Akira, everything Satoshi Kon has ever made, Doraemon (a work so iconic that talking shit about it in Asia- not just Japan, the entirety of Asia- is tantamount to suicide) Yotusba&! and the like. These people clearly don't know what the fuck they're talking about, perhaps they need educating.

Enjoying things from different cultures is apparently bad; and you should feel bad for enjoying them!

I genuinely love how good Evangelion hurts
