I think the new edit is better than the broadcast version but if you didn't like S1 to begin with it's not going to change your mind.

Just finished Gunbuster 2. What originally started out looking like a parody of Gunbuster actually developed into a beautiful and emotional story. Nono actually turns into a badass, too! I love how the ending tied everything in with the original Gunbuster.

Inferred Bestiality: The Anime
Oh, wait. I meant "Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou". This was one of the shows that the anime club put up for vote, last year. It wasn't picked, but I thought I would watch it. I like it. It's entertaining and the idea of the dead high school student being transferred into the body of a wiener dog is awesome.

Oh, and dat flat protag.

Nanatsu no Taizai
I fucking love this show. Full stop. Love it. I like fantasy, for starters. The show uses a lot of fanservice (no, that's totally not the reason I love it), but it works fairly well because the show doesn't take itself too seriously. I like the opening (which is important, to me, if a show has a shit opening, it's harder to watch, for me).

Just: Howl's Moving Bar. I can't be the only person who saw that.

Then you won't like season 2; while it's not bad, it has severe sequel-syndrom. It's louder, faster and gorier.

So no doubt Xard will be bouncing up and down with delight as I tell you I watched the first episode of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross and loved it.

The animation, whilst somewhat dated, still looks great and has a wonderfully old school feel to it, back from tbe days when spaceships where massive blocky grey hulks bristling with antenna and gun turrets, shading was everywhere and mecha were actually allowed to have visible damage. The Valkyrie dogfight and the panning shots of the Zentraedi ships were some of my favourite, bursting with hand-drawn mechanical goodness and wonderful techy greebles that sadly seem to have been phased out nowadays in favour of smooth glassy surfaces and tron lines. The character designs are great, easily recognizable as Mikimoto whilst still looking very different from his other work (Gunbuster, War In The Pocket etc).

Oh, and that music! That wonderful brass-filled retro sci-fi music! Ooh, it's wonderful. I could listen to the OP all day.

I can't comment much on the story seeing as it's only the first episode, but it seems like a pretty good space opera so far.

I think I'm going to like this one.

Encouragement of Climb 2 is finally back on Crunchy. There may be no avoiding the usual fluff expected of standard “cute girls doing x” shows like this, but it’s at least... tolerable, and more than worth enduring for eps 9, 10 and 11 alone.
The girls tackle Mt. Fuji and the results are… bittersweet. Genuinely absorbing and moving television. Good stuff.

Yeah, the Mt Fuji arc was a surprise departure from the usual formula for the show, wasn't what I was expecting but done pretty well nonetheless.

That looks amusing-- and oddly heartwarming as well. I guess I'll put it on the list.

After hearing so much about Nadia, I decided to check the series out for myself. The first two episodes were okay, but I'm on the third now and it's starting to get really interesting. Nadia's face really does look just like Shinji's.

Forget what I said; Episode six greased a big brown turd all over the franchises face. Man, that was CSI-level stupid writing.

Started watching Terraformars, it's really really dumb. I'll probably keep watching it though, cause I'm really really dumb. And even though it doesn't affect the overall pretty crappy quality of the show, the heavy censorship does hinder my enjoyment quite a bit.

I am enjoying Parasyte: The Maxim quite a bit though, from what I've seen so far I would recommend giving it a watch.

(Also, if anyone has anyone has any recommendations on what to watch on Crunchyroll they would be much appreciated, as I feel I'm kinda wasting my subscription at the moment. Preferably something already finished airing just so I can binge.)

Looking at your MAL to see what you haven't watched, I'd say Chihayafuru, if it's in your region.

EDIT: Also Akagi and Mushishi.

---

So having not been able to watch CCA last night, and finding that Super Robot Wars OG : The Inspector had expired on Crunchy, I did some random sampling myself, looking through the generally second tier titles on offer that I'd not already watched, for things that we aren't theoretically watching as a couple (Gatachman CROWDS, Mushishi S2, Encouragement of Climb S2) and also that haven't been the subject of too much derision on /a/ (and aren't totally cute girls doing jack, random fightan shonen or harem).

The roster ended up being Saki:the Nationals, Yuki Yuna, Hanasaku Iroha, and Prisma Illya, and really there wasn't a one that inclined me to go on after a couple of episodes. Even Saki has lost the charm it had in the first season, with of embarrassing levels of frankly prurient fan-service in lieu of magical girl mah-jong.

So, recs?

Thanks for the recommendations Tines, they're added to my queue.

To return the favour I recommend Tsuritama because I love anything directed by Kenji Nakamura. It's a show about fishing, and I think it's fantastic.

Also, all of the Monogatari seasons if you haven't already seen them.

From his remarks when I've recommended -monogatari to others, I guess that Mr Tines is unlikely to take up that recommendation!

Thanks for the thoughts

Pornomongatori comes under the headings of "the subject of too much derision on /a/" (Google "Meanwhile at SHAFT" images for the general idea), and harem. Plus, of course, the SHAFT aesthetic, of ugly people in front of sterile architecture, those goddamn head-tilts included, was a contributory factor to my dropping Madoka; and enough that I couldn't stomach more than a few seconds of the YouTube clip of the toothbrush scene.

I'd tried an episode of Tsuritama a while back, and while I did like the general aesthetic, the MC's continual, I think the vernacular is "spilling spaghetti" -- those "drowning" attacks -- were enough to send me eye-rolling.

Not related to the -Monogatari series but similarly named, I have heard great things about Katanagatari. I haven't watched it myself but I intend to, and I think you'd like it Tines.

Wait, hang on a minute...

of ugly people in front of sterile architecture

Are you suggesting it's possible for Ume Aoki's designs to be ugly? Son, I am disappoint.
