Anyhow I need to see new EVA-02 in action before passing judgment on it first. Though the horns do irk me a bit.

Well, yeah. A 40-meter tall person in an Eva-02 suit. :p

The fluidity of the movement is probably in part due to the fact that they could work more directly from reference materials -- not as much to modify. But the art itself takes a hit in EoE, like NemZ mentioned earlier. The latter probably won't be much of an issue in 2.0, though.

would look so much better if they lost the white altogether, did the whole thing up in just red, orange, black, and gray... and green eyes, of course.

Well, anyway, isn't an eva basically a 40 meters tall person in a suit? I've always preferred its eoe version, it looks more realistic, more... creepy.

I don't think being a "dude in a suit" is a bad thing, it's just the wrong words.
I prefer the EoE design because it actually looks like there is a beast hiding underneath all that armor, that it's not just a gigantic robot moving around.
It was much more unsettling.

I wonder if the horns are supposed to be a throwback to the original "oni" design motif.

Actually, from the very start, the Evas were intended to be less "robots" and more giant humans / beasts barely under our control.

There's clearly no agreement on the matter, but I stand by what I said -- that a "moderated" exaggeration fits the Evas best, and to make them TOO human robs them of something special. They obviously aren't the exact same type of human as us, after all.

I'll be hoping that, horns aside, Eva-02 looks less dopey in 2.0 than she does in EoE.

Dr. Nick wrote:I wonder if the horns are supposed to be a throwback to the original "oni" design motif.

Almost definitely the case. I'm sure we'll get confirmation soon enough, with the new Eva-02 design published in juxtaposition with an ancient "oni horns" concept and everything.

As i remember the pictures of adam which are shown in the reiquarium( i think) show us a really human looking adam, with ..uhm sticky jelly over his body ,like an baby who was just born,so i would appriciate the more human looking EVA-02 .

Just remembered the Eva-01 in the first ep. after killed sachiel that looked to exaggerated to me. Rebuild version fits well i think...

Adam was being excavated inside the White Moon. She's probably covered in ice or something.

Wonder if we'll be seeing any new weapons on the Evas a la Asuka's headache spikes in EoE.

Sounds like good ol' fashioned engrish to me.

Is it me or are the proportions of the hands wrong? I realise that the right hand is meant to be reaching for the camera but the left one also looks a bit big...

EDIT:
I also just noticed the prog knife has a slit down the middle of it -

Is this so it can peel giant potatoes?

Translation of "破かれるセオリー" ("the theory that was divided/broken/defeated"). And the kanji "破" is the same as in the jo-ha-kyu that the movies use in the subtitles.

Thanks for posting the scan, klasnic. Do you know if there are there any more pages to the article?

I like the new knife; always thought the boxcutter was silly. Notice the recoloring on the arm-thingies (blue-gray) and the crotch-blade (orange), as well. (And could have guessed that Takeshi Honda was responsible for the illustration...)

Why do you people keep quoting the olde and busted SRW height of 40m?

specifically for Rebuild, GAINAX was kind enough to provide an official height of 80m in the awesome Complete Collection 1.0 book.

also, have the full resolution scan. the previous one was shrunk to fit the 4chan image size limits.

The Evas haven't gotten any bigger in the Cage shots, so it would actually be impossible for them to be consistently 80m tall. Compared to how large they're shown next to humans in the Cage, Evas are in the 40-50m size range. (I actually went to the trouble of figuring this out once, through a combination of screenshots, a full-height production drawing of Eva-01, and Misato's height.)
