How was it made more clear in the English dub? Was it the editing of the sound, or what? (My gut instinct still tells me that it's Rei from within Unit 01 speaking, but there's so little information given to the viewer about ReiQ specifically in this film that anything's possible.)

It's a combination of the sound editing and the way she speaks. The effect added to her voice is the same or very similar in all three lines, first two lines are delivered in Rei Q's flat, monotone style, and there's just something about the way she says "Shinji Ikari, where are you?" that makes it sound like she's not familiar with him.

Neither of the shorts is included, sadly. There's a substantial collection of trailers, The Rebuild of Evangelion 3.33 featurette, and the Eva Extra 08 video. Nice to see it when it's not projected on the side of a building but man, did they have to include the full minute long countdown?

That sounds like a much better handling of Misato's line. The biggest misunderstanding people have about 3.33 is that Misato has become "a bitch who doesn't care about Shinji anymore".

I'm of the mind that she's feeling too much and is stricken with fear about to properly act around Shinji since she played such a major role in destroying his chances for a normal/happy life.

I agree. Misato's angrier than I would have liked compared to the Japanese version, but she doesn't come across as being malicious or intentionally cruel to me. It's more like she's hiding behind an iron shell that's been tempered by hardship and she has to act tough to hold things together.

^ You're welcome! And I know! I was hoping the dub would clear up that mess but we're right back where we started. I greatly prefer the dub line myself. It doesn't make much sense for her to just yell DIE considering her actions in that scene and the rest of the movie.

During the fan translation process, there was a conflict between whether Asuka tells Shinji to "die" or not. Far as I could tell, there wasn't anything about dying in there, but if even Kanemitsu is going with the "die" version, I guess there must be something to it.

*Here's an interesting one. The Vessel is "The Vessel of the Adams" in the dub but "Adams' Vessel" in the HV subs.

I remember fighting for "Adams' Vessel" in the initial fan translation. Pretty cool that it was Kanemitsu's choice as well.

The Doors of Guf are the "Gates of Guf" in both sub and dub. They pronounce it "Goff."

Plural and everything, huh? Talk about confusing. Plus you'd think that, since it leads to a "chamber", "door" would be the better choice. I dislike this, but nothing I can do about it, I suppose.

Misato sounds frustrated at Shinji after the Vessel is dislodged. She just says, "Shinji," but you can hear the implied, "God damn it, Shinji."

Is this right before the scene switches to Kaworu's final words? Misato growling out "Shinji" was there in the theater dub and it was totally at odds with the ambiguous original. Really irritated me. Of all the things to leave alone and not redub...

Pronouncing "Adams' Vessel" as "Adamses Vessel" would have been an option. It sounds awkward, yes, but so does "Vessel of the Adams".

A reddit user took photos of the booklet included with the movie: http://imgur.com/a/ryln9 It's not very different from the one we've already seen. There's a new intro page, the Evas have the titles under their names translated, and "Wille's People" has been changed to "Wille Personnel." I think the sound track info and lyrics after the "Rebuild of 3.33" feature were left out and replaced with a two-page spread of Kaworu and Shinji instead.

The pictures of Unit 02 reminded me of something cute I'd forgotten. When Asuka goes out in Unit 02 Improved to work on the engine, she says "Iiiiiiiit's showtime!" in a happy sing-song voice. It's pretty adorable.

With how everyone is eager for any information Eva related, a 3.33 English commentary would be better than nothing.

Both D&R and EoE got commentaries from Amanda Winn-Lee, her husband Jason Lee, and Taliesin Jaffe. The latter did attempt to inject educational content here and there, but the first two mostly joked throughout. The tracks have some entertainment value, but perhaps it would've been better to do two separate ones: an actually serious track (with as much care taken to the included material as possible, i.e. no idle mentions of chronic fan misinterpretations), and a "drunk" commentary track for the silly stuff.

Question: Does the BD use the translation "spear" or "lance"? (I can't for the life of me remember what the theater dub used...)

I'll have to double-check tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure they used "spear." That's what I had written in my notes, anyway. The theatrical dub used "lance." Kaworu pronounces Longinus as "Lon-jai-nus" instead of "lonj-inus."
