I'm watching it and it's on a commercial break now. I should mention that this is my first time watching Rebuild. I was waiting for them all to be in English but, hey it's on so i'll watch it. My thoughts so far:
1.) I don't like the CGI animation on the Eva units, not one bit. Hand-drawn animation just seems so much more... impressive because of the work in it. Not to degrade the hard work of CGI animators, but whenever I see CGI in a work that's usually hand drawn I find myself too distracted to enjoy it.
2.) My god the minor character voice acting for this dub is so much better. I don't know if they just took acting classes or if they're new people, but Toji and Kensuke sound much better.
3.) On the topic of voice actors, I don't quite like the new voice for Rei. I know that Amanda Winn-Lee has made her distaste for the Evangelion fandom clear enough that she would probably never want or be asked to return, but I liked her performance. Maybe it's because my first Evangelion experience was the dub, but this new actor seems too.. angry for lack of a better word. It sounds like she's injecting suppressed hatred into every line.
4.) The rainbows everywhere, I had read about them appearing during Angel deaths, but the one during the "Shinji falls on Rei" scene suggests some other meaning. I'll need time for this.
5.) Everything is pretty much the same as the series, some shots might as well have just been traced over from the original.
According to Seele, Tang is the ultimate form of life. I guess that means the astronauts are committing genocide all the time then.
