I agree, but I still think if he wanted the message to come across straight, the title would simple be "You are not alone". The parentheses are there to mean something.

The parentheses mean that you can read the title two ways: with and without the word that's parenthesized.

You Are (Not) Alone = You Are Alone; You Are Not Alone
You Can (Not) Advance = You Can Advance; You Can Not Advance

This might be borrowing from some sort of mathematical notation, but I forget so much of what I learned in math classes that you shouldn't quote me on this.

Anyway, the clear advantage of this is that you can have one title that is effectively two and means two conflicting things, which is great if you're Anno and like messing with people's heads.

I would say the parentheses mean something. Like what Reichu said, mainly for Anno-styled screwing around with your head.

Actually I have seen the construction of ".... (not) ..." in quite a few places before, usually in commentary in blogs. So it is not really something only recently created...

^ Quick translation:

Not much has been said about Evangelion New Movie Edition:Q
For the viewers, there have been only images and a couple of narrations shown as trailer,
that gave some sense of what is to come
2010 fall, Evangelion New Movie Edition:Q will be released
The move of time has quickened. It is definitely not far in future.

So it's not really news but more of an acknowledgement that there will finally be news? Awesome.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, its not just something you get at first glance.

She looks more like she's just semi-fixed now. Without a paint job and a few layers of armour. Reminds me of the Terminator a little.

Quick translation in 30 seconds has its risk. At least it is easy to spot even in the original text :p

View Original PostTMBounty_Hunter wrote:So it's not really news but more of an acknowledgement that there will finally be news? Awesome.

This is why I did not feel an urge to translate those scans of NewType - there is little to expect from the PR material (besides, most of the text are too small). If I spotted anything really interesting, I would raise alarm already.

View Original PostXard wrote:There's much character development and info dump needed for Mari, Asuka and Kaworu alone: add on this the entire plot thread of Shinji doing his ep 20 trip (with Rei this time around) which means a lot of focus will be on him too... oh boy, I have no idea how one film would've been enough for satisfactory end result. Because on top of that you need to tell the story and shift the other building blocks around too I don't see how at most 2h film (animation films are very rarely even that long) could've done the job

So Final coming in 2013 separately is very good news to me

I don't know, i fear that with two full movies, there will be a lot of meandering, unending flashbacks (doesn't really work well in movies), and after the Angels are defeated, we'll probably get a bit of Anima in NME with the Hyper Super Eva duking it out with the Mega Ultra Eva Deluxe, if they intend to keep the action quotient up.

On the bright side, this also probably means that the adults won't be shafted, which was a worry of mine.

If anything there being two whole movies left excites me more than anything. Most of the fluff in the narrative has already happened & I'm looking forward to see what a film in this franchise will look like without an Angel battle interrupting the flow of the story every 15 minutes.

I have high hopes for these last two films.

I'm with Gendo'sPapa: given the INFINITE ways this story could play out, that it will meander seems unlikely. Things aren't winding down. In a way, they're just beginning. Anno and co. certainly have enough potential story possibilities for two movies.

Illustrated by Yusuke Matsui. Although I also though it was Honda.

I'm actually not afraid of that at all. In fact I'm very pleased to hear that it's been separated into two movies. I think there's a lot of potential to really expand on ideas hinted at in the previous one, so that this new universe can stretch it's legs out and define itself a little more. I felt one of the biggest problems with the last one was that it was still half on rails and half new, so the pacing was awkward in certain parts. If it's mostly new content from here on, it won't be restricted in that way.

And I could easily see there being two movies worth of content in just character content alone. Mari hasn't even done anything yet (not really), and Kawrou has room to be his own Kawrou and so on. And that's not even counting Space Asuka or Rei clones yet.

And I suspect that Space Evangelions alone will take some setup to really make any sense. You can't just go right to that. Logistically, you have to explain how that works. You also need to establish "There's something in space, and we don't like it being there. Really, it would be best if we could get an Eva up there to solve that for us..." Then someone comes up with the idea that they're going to shoot Nigouki into space. And there'd be the obligatory "You're nuts! That's nuts, right?!" But it can't be helped. Also, I'd like to see plenty of build up for Asuka's take off. I'd enjoy a scene where there's the big launching sequence complete with count down accompanied by some dramatic classical music. The 7th symphony is pretty tired now as far as its use in movies goes, but imagine an Eva countdown sequence with technobabble going on in the background and the rockets light up at 2:16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uOxOgm5jQ4&amplist=FLZHN9iJZ0mR7Tn7HqbBqqHA&ampindex=7&ampfeature=plpp_video

Or something similar at least.

Also you have Shinji in dreamland and his escape from inside Eva. Really, two movies seems the only way that'd all fit comfortably for me.
Why do they even want the Loc-Nar? All it does is melt you.

Unit 02 looks even more like a Gundam than usual in that picture...I like.

Nobody placed any bets, so the washing machine, I guess.

Thanks for bringing the big scan our way. (And if you thought it was Honda too, then I don't feel like a complete idiot. Yay!)

I wonder if having the thicker armor on one side of 02's head means that it will have an annoying habit of tilting to the right. If Eva-02 lives through to Final, I sure hope they get that head fixed.
