If I have to keep up that way, get a nap for a while, and one bottle of Lipovitan or Red Bull will do more than 7 cans of Coke.

You might be surprised to learn this, but Red Bull contains barely more caffeine than a single can of Coca-Cola. In fact, there's probably more caffeine in a cup of coffee than Red Bull.

The party I was at didn't have a lot of caffeinated options-- there wasn't any red bull, since red bull isn't something one would typically have (at least not at any party I've been to), and the two caffeinated sodas available were Dr. Pepper and Coke. I actually prefer Dr. Pepper, but somebody hadn't put the cans in ice, and they were warm. I stuck them in the ice to let them cool and meandered off to go do other things; by the time I came back, all the Dr. Pepper was gone and there was only coke. Fuckers.

Taurine (a Red Bull ingredient) = cat food. Though, I don't understand the point of Red Bull or any energy drink to begin with (other than them containing either lots of sugar or caffeine). A cup of coffee or tea is enough to get me going if I really need to stay alert for many hours.

Could be body chemistry or something -- I had a single job that took me from 6pm to 7am to fix up 12 PCs in that night, which meant I have to get something to drink; often I drink bottled water now more than I try to chug Coke to keep alert.

MERS outbreak is getting worse by the week in South Korea, and it's now causing me to debate as to whether I should cancel my trip or not. I'm going in 5 weeks, but it feels moderately far to tell. I read that it's only spreading in hospital settings, but worst case scenario, I am forced to cancel without a refund (depending on the situation, I enter and catch the virus). knowing my luck, it feels like it's going to happen. I'm hoping a lot to ensure that I can go safely, especially since Seoul, where the virus is settling primarily, is not where I'll be staying in.

It pisses me off because I had a chance to go somewhere where I'll be away from my shit life, and I booked the trip ONE WEEK before the spread got terrible. I just want it to get better.

Well, after I dropped my Xperia Z3 back in March, shattering the display in the process, I swallowed the bitter pill and bought a new one (thank god, I got it almost for free, cause reasons). Well, yesterday my phone dropped again, and guess what the upper part of the display is broken again.

I know it's my own fault. I'm angry at my own stupidity.

Buy a dumbphone. There's several models that will survive accidents otherwise fatal to smartphones (like dropping your phone from 2 meters high while walking down the stairs at work, causing it do bounce off the stairs and have a hard landing on the concrete floor below  )

I've had my current crappy little dumbphone for 4 years now, and despite needing to get new batteries for it once, it hasn't failed me otherwise.

Would be nice when I can finally afford a smartphone/plan though.

I had taken off today to go to a convention but work called me saying they needed me in. On the way there I hit a pothole, couldn't get over with someone blocking me, the plastic belly thing under my car popped off so now I'm waiting in a dealership to replace it losing money I wanted for the con, plus one day, and an AmiAmi order just came in which I might have to ignore now for a warning. I know these are all first world problems but ugh, just wanted to vent this is not helping my anxiety at all and I worry work thinks I'm staying at the con and ignoring them even though I called.

I'd like to do this myself. A few years ago I bought a small smartphone (3 1/4" screen) because I loved how nice it looked and all the stuff it could do. Turns out I never use it for anything but making calls and texting, and all that pretty screen ever did was get scratched to hell in my pocket. Now it's a beat-up piece of crap. Next time I'll get a flip phone. As long as the phone looks decent and makes phone calls, I don't care. Everything else I can do better with my 7" tablet, which I always carry with me anyhow.

Rosenakahara: Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll find someone better soon. :huggles:

cyharding's Medical Misadventure or How I learned to stop wo

Postby cyharding » Fri Jun 12, 2015 11:02 pm

I knew the pecursors. Occasional numbness in my face, headaches, etc... but they were ignored. Back on Wednesday, I was working on a tablet when I felt really tired, like everything was out of place. I aslo found that my left arm wouldn't function like my right: While the right was normal when I did a motion, such as pretending to play a piano, the left made things muddled. I couldn't work the tablet that well either. Some bedrest restored feeling, but was soon replaced by the numbness again. When I went to get the mail. I started to drift to the left. One second, I was on the gravel road, the next I was heading into the ditch. When I told my mom these things, she drove me to the emergency room. There I was asked some questions and had my blood pressure checked: it was 218 over 125. For all intents and purposes having a minor stroke. I got sent to a regional hospital by ambulance. Once I arrived, I was taken to my room and I rested. I ended up having both a CT scan ( the iodine when pumped into my IV felt the same as when a woman had a hotflash during menopause) and a MRI (the whole process was surreal. It's like lying right next to a jackhammer and then five minutes later, be subjected to bad EDM). The results were that I had a lesion in my brain's blood vessals and that a blood clot got through leading to the stroke. After and EKG showing the clots didn't come from the heart, I was discharged, but only after two days of boredom. The only interesting part is the alarm they had when someone falls out can be activated just by moving my legs. So, I look forward to the posts of sympathy, the sage advice of Brik, a quip from Chuckman (You're always on Chuck. you're always on)and any other messages. Thank you.

Scary! I presume that you are now all right, as you don't say otherwise, but you don't say anything about what they have done to clear up what's happened, or to prevent a recurrence. Have you been put on a regime of drugs to reduce clotting, or to control blood pressure, for instance? (I was put on four drugs for life, and had a fifth for a year, following a heart attack some years ago - it's a right pain, but following a standard protocol.)

Man, I'm happy that it was just a minor stroke. Scary story, nevertheless.
