Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Heavy rotation recently:

Pelican put up a new track, 'Immutable Dusk', from their forthcoming record later in the year:

Pretty interesting sound for them, and considering a founding member and main songwriter left the group sometime prior to this recording. Really dig the chill, groovy interlude section, eventually swelling up into a crush at the end.

Also, I posted this in the 'Songs on Repeat' thread but I cannot stop listening to the new Violent Soho single. Suss it out, folks:

Picked up a copy of People, Hell and Angels today and oh my god it's so amazing. It's quite a bit more upbeat than Valleys of Neptune (which is kind of a sleepy album, imo). I think it's got some of the best guitar-work from Hendrix that you'll find anywhere.

I mean, listen to this shit:

I personally preferred the initial art that was floating around, but for each version to look so incredibly similar to the artwork in TDS; I'm hoping the content itself could live up to that type of self-homage.

I do like how each format has its own take though.
That's a nice touch.

After a listen to Russian Circles "Geneva" I can honestly say I really enjoy this album, definitely an instant favorite.

Only gripe (and it's a small one) is that the last track has a slight scratch in it that's audible. (pops about 4 times) but, that's the nature of vinyl.

After a couple of days of listening, I can say that this is AOTY for me so far. Might even be my second favourite Gorguts record right after Obscura.

View Original PostMerridian wrote:Year Zero wasn't terribly good to begin with. It had a handful of decent tracks, and most of them followed the exact same structure anyway. Even if this single is less ambitiously noisy than YZ was, it actually sounds good and maintains NIN's pop aesthetic that has dominated his work almost without exception since With Teeth. Ghosts was the only thing he did as NIN since then that carried the more experimental side of NIN forward while also offering a thoroughly interesting and enjoyable listen. Most of YZ by comparison is a hamster with a microphone rattling around in a couple of trashcans.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. YZ was great. And NIN's work has been dominated by a pop aesthetic since PHM, with the only exceptions that I can think of being Broken and Ghosts.

Well after spinning "Geneva" for the third time. I totally dig this album, easily my favorite album I've bought this year along side my limited audiophile pressing of Steve Vai's "The Story of Light".

Also heard some Deafheaven the other night. I see myself buying some of their albums in the near future.

Currently spinning some records my parents have that have all the big hits from the late 60's or so. These things are 41 years old and sound perfect. I also recognize a lot of songs on em too.
