Elements of Rei's story are similar to parts of Apollo's Song by the great Osamu Tezuka. Basically, falling in love with a woman who keeps getting killed and re-cloned.

Anyone know other sci-fi novels, movies, comics etc that feature clones and love?

In English language SF, there was a spike of clone-related writing c 1970; this overlapped with early feminist SF -- I know I read some way back when, but that's about all.
