For anybody even remotely interested in Gainax and Hideaki Anno, I recommend you pick the special edition R2 of this movie up. It's a live action sort of alternate history WWII film that tells the story of a renegade commander during WWII who is put in charge of a mysterious submarine that was given to the Japanese government by the Germans and is sent to stop the second atomic bomb from hitting Nagasaki. It's directed by former Gainax member and special effects director Shinji Higuchi and get this, actually features Hideaki Anno in a blink and you'll miss him cameo in the film as a member of the submarine crew. There's also an entire special feature on the third disc of the SE in which Higuchi and Anno are interviewed about Lorelei and their previous work together. And anyways, this film, like Casshern, features lots of anime-like imagery and should be appealing to just about any anime fan.
