It's true that it's possible 4chan will get blacklisted, however they've got a few things going for them. The majority of the boards (note: not the traffic, but the boards) are SFW. There are lots of moderators. THAT BOARD only has scuzzy, and most of the time it's because I'm looking through my als archive and see some CP and tell scuzzy about it in his IRC channel. Although there is a /torrents/ board there, and it's almost all pr0n, but the thing they have going for them is they don't run the tracker.

Either way, it doesn't make much sense to link to image boards since the content in the link gets pushed off the face of the universe in a matter of days (4chan) or a few weeks (THAT BOARD).

4chan is too huge to try to act like it doesn't exist anyway, most of the internet anime nerd communities are influenced by it to some degree

I'm not necessarily for *ei-*ya*a**.net or against 4chan, but it just seems weird to me that one should be allowed while the other shouldn't. The only good point I've seen differentiating them is Ornette's most recent post mentioning moderation. Come to think of it, though, aren't both blocked by one o' them 18+ filters? So it shouldn't make a bit of difference, guys.

Whoa, I thought 4chan was THAT BOARD. Then what is THAT BOARD ? PM me if you have to, I'm way too curious.

Not 4-chan but rei-chan (at least that's what it would be if the domain were systematically named, and it's enough for Google).

I spent the whole time I've read these boards, at least a month before I joined and till now, wondering what the hell THAT BOARD was.

I actually found this site through THAT board while I was hunting for some Rebuild footage.

I can't believe how clogged with porn, illegal downloads, and just some plain bizarre shit it is. I do admit that it did have one use for me.

THAT BOARD may have some weird stuff at times, but it shouldn't be dissed totally.

Without it, some great (H)-doujin wouldn't be translated, thanks to the kind Anonymous there. ^_^

My two cents.

I admit, the site is amusing but it just feels so unregulated. It's like an internet anarchy or a download black market. From the arguments SSD and Zeak made, I've changed my mind a little.

The place really is kinda like an Internet anarchy and black market, you can find stuff you want and do what you want, but you'll also find stuff you don't want or agree with.

We've all been scarred by 4chan at one point or another, so it doesn't particularly matter (so long as we don't link to them).

As for THAT BOARD, plausible deniability. Just because we have "advisors" in (insert third world hellhole of choice) doesn't mean we should go around talking about them. (furthermore it is a lot closer to home than 4chan. The laws of the land may not make much sense, but they are as ruthlessly enforced as they are arbitrary.) I say keep the rule.

Of course it's fine that we aren't allowed to link directly to that site to prevent legal problems, but not even mentioning its name(s) sounds a little like censorship (I remember that I've discovered what "THAT BOARD" is thanks to some old link posted by Reichu in the Eva Commentary, a newbie could spend weeks before discovering what we're talking about thus if it's not censorship at least we can talk of elitism).

Do you mean geographically? Aren't both sites located in the U.S.A just like evageeks?

Scuzzy's virtual host got wrecked and he couldn't reinstall it without the help of his friend. It should be back any day now.

I just want to state a few things real quick.

First of all, I don't really care too much about THAT BOARD enough to consider them a bad force. My opinion of the site has softened considerably over the years, so don't think I have a vendetta against them or anything. I go there too.

More importantly, I've always wanted this community to be respectable, so linking to a place with noticeable amounts of illicit and objectionable material doesn't sit well with me, especially so in the case of THAT BOARD, as it hits VERY close to home. If there's a reason why 4chan is tolerated, it's more than likely because (with the exception of certain areas), the site is more diluted in terms of the aforementioned illicit and objectionable material. Not to mention, it's not like we can pretend that 4chan doesn't exist. They are reported on in major news publications. moot was in the Time 100 for crying out loud. They even have to take animal abusers into protective custody now to protect them from 4chan.

The staff (to my knowledge) has never had any discussions about linking to 4chan, and I hope we can keep it that way, because I don't think it's something we have to be hard-asses about.

What do you mean with illicit and objectionable material? If it's copyrighted material (what I'm really bothered) 4chan is much worse than THAT BOARD, it has 2 section dedicated to them (/rs/ and /t/) and the site itself crawls all the links to file hosting service that are linked in the other boards by the users (and most of them are links to copyrighted material) while most of the links that you can find in THAT BOARD are doujins and not games and/or movies (I think that there was only a link to an Eva game for the PSP last time that THAT BOARD was online, try to check how many games and videos related to Eva you can find in the 4chan); if it's about pornographic material I must say that what I've seen in THAT BOARD (yet I could have missed something, I check it only from a pair of months and I don't check all the sections) is way less questionable than what you could see in /b/ or /d/.
Surely 4chan has illicit and objectionable material more diluted but that's only because it's a much larger community (and actually nowadays even board like /a/ aren't actually "work-safe" any more); you can pretend that it doesn't exist because it's not a large or famous community, but for me it's just censorship (just like Google censors LWB, something that I've discovered recently in THAT BOARD).
So let’s make a wish.

The point is that we don't want to link to ANO BŌRUDO because if it gets degoogled we could get degoogled with it. 4chan is not about to get degoogled, especially now that pretty much the only thing illegal it does is filesharing which it doesn't even permanently host.
Nothing is so valuable that it need not be started afresh, nothing is so rich that it need not be enriched constantly.
