Aw, you guys...
Frequently I contemplate the rise and fall of Reichu Classic. How this crazy broad took the Eva community by storm, but was eventually undone by her own insanity, to thereafter fade into the powerless and mostly noninfluential relic she is today. Well, I suppose there are a lot of factors at play, but the hypomanic incident of 2005-06 sure did its part to create huge amounts of backlash to my enthusiasm and guarantee that I could only survive by significantly tempering myself from what had once been. My off-again on-again attempts to bring back my old sense of spirit have pretty much universally met with failure, to my chagrin. A sign of the times, I suppose. The joyless, hyper-sensitive, rotten, horrible, no good, very very bad times. To be fair, there is probably an element, too, of me becoming incredibly sensitive to mental illness and signs of it reigning in others unchecked -- a natural result of being taken for a ride by my own brain and not knowing about it until the damage has been done.

Sounds like you had a rough time. I don't know if this helps but personally i have a good impression about you and i consider you one of the best members in here (btw, i have a good impression only for 6-7 members in here). This comes from a not so old member (joined back in 2012), so i never actually ''met'' the old Reichu that the other members talk about.

Having been there for the twilight of it, I can attest it was an amazing time to be alive.
Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
I was there for the end of the so called "Golden Age of Evageeks" and it was a great time to be on the forum. The reason I'm still around is mainly habit and the unrealistic hope that we'll get there again some day. Makes me somewhat nostalgic.

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
^Well this all happened long before I became apart of the forum.
I don't really get it, and don't take this the wrong way for anyone that was on the forum at this time but, the "Golden Age of Evageeks" as I'll dub it sounds extremely pretentious. Was the forum that different before compared to now? (Personally all I know about is the story ofV and what went down with him).
I mean I do understand the low traffic it has now, mainly contributed to getting maybe a page or 2 of new posts per day which isn't really a lot(Also it does suck to post something and get no response for it, which I could also say is contributed to the friend/foe feature we have now). However wouldn't this be contributed to the fact nothing new has happened in Eva for a good 3 years now? I mean if you think about it why do people join this forum(other having been lured by Reichu's apparent charm)? I'd argue it is first to get some understanding of the ending, but also for Eva news which happens to pertain to FINAL atm.
As said before, we've discussed and continue to talk about everything Eva related to death, and there hasn't been any news for the new FINAL in a long time. So to say once we have some new info to talk about it always sparks stuff in our community, and I'd love to see all the people that start popping up once FINAL is released, because from what I've heard EGF when 3.0 was released was filled.

This goes back to what was brought up earlier on what would happen to the forum years after Final is released?

If Trajan said he was there for the end of it, then so was I (joined a couple weeks after him) and honestly, I don't miss it. Not saying it was worse than now, but I simply have no strong attachment to that particular period of EGF. The forum was different then because the people in it were different, but many old timers left, and people who were fond of them get that nostalgic feeling about it. That's all it boils down to.
And V, which was before my time, was probably a part of the dark age of EGF, not the golden age.

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
V was a user with controversial views who also did a lot of work on the wiki. (I wasn't here when he was, so this is by repute.) He clashed with the staff and was eventually thrown out. Then he set up his own web site called revolutionofevangelion.org which was quite active for a time. He "left the fandom" when Q came out, and abandoned his web site (which accordingly no longer exists, though some other users set up a replacement without him called rebuildofevangelion.org, where they've published a long series of discussion podcasts).

What kind of controversial views are we talking about?

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
Ruling the wiki as a dictator, arbitrarily reverting contributions that he doesn't agree with, making people who sign up for a wiki account feel like they have to put in X amount of work every day. Generally filling up the entire wiki with content, a lot of which may partly or entirely be based on fanon and with no references. Though the last bit was sort of understandable because he was tasked with getting the wiki off the ground so there had to be a ton of content in a hurry, but that sort of conflicted with the way he ran things.
Near the end, he would create new threads in an effort to spur discussion that were mostly about things that you can search on google and get a complete and detailed answer from the first result. After dozens and dozens of such threads, he was asked to leave. His views about Evangelion weren't any more controversial than most people's. He mostly aligned with what Reichu said and so much so that a lot of the content from the "About" page on his site and the content of his panels were lifted straight out of Reichu's threads from here and ANF.

I don't think I've seen that thread before, but that's my belief as what will happen when Final is released.
About V, I am pretty sure there is an archived thread that Reichu created mainly for knowledge, I'm sure a quick search you could find it, but V really isn't a topic worth discussing anymore as it happened years ago at this point.
And so some people left? I guess I can say the same, because in the time I've been on here I've seen others that where active when I first joined have either not posted or extremely infrequently.

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
The membership of any society, club, forum, team, whatever inevitably changes over time, and its character with it. This is a normal part of human society and should be surprising to no one. The effects may be perceived as good, neutral, or bad, and people will disagree over that as well.
So, nothing new here; time to pass along.

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong
The same thing that is happening now. After FINAL is released, the whole forum will discuss everything about it and after a year or so, most of the boards will be ''dead'' except the off topic ones. Some people will make one or two new theories each year and others will discuss the possibility of a new Eva animation. I think that was probably the picture of this forum before the announcement of the new films.

"The old guard"? If people were around for that back in 2010, then I was certainly there for it in 2009, and the only thing I really remember being too terribly different then was was EvaYojimbo, HAL, and Muggy.
Also, I've been on this forum for over 6 years. At what point do my Senior Citizen Discounts kick in?

What... it's not self-evident?
Okay, yeah, people always hated my guts. Apparently I'm quite polarizing. I'll tell you something -- being loathed by people who barely know you, some of whom have not even set foot on the forum, is an incredibly surreal experience. If you're not the right personality type to handle hate, you'll spend a lot of time brooding existentially on what the hell is wrong with people and wonder if it wouldn't be better to just shut up and fade away from sight.
the "Golden Age of Evageeks" as I'll dub it sounds extremely pretentious.
It's just a figure of speech. You've never heard "The Golden/Silver/Bronze/Platinum Age of _______" before?
Flattering, in a dickish sort of way. I remember when he created a false account here just so he could post some questions about Death. I provided a bunch of information, because I'm generous (or a show-off, if you prefer that interpretation). Imagine my surprise when the content of my post turned up in one of V's presentations without any credit provided whatsoever. When confronted about it, there were no apologies; he seemed to treat it as a sort of victory.

Aw, thanks, man.
The "old Reichu" might be mostly a product of nostalgia, though I do seem to remember her having a lot more enthusiasm and mischief in her. I would once regularly interject threads with crazed drawings and 'shops -- not so much for the past few views. My views were, at one point, incredibly bizarre, so it was fun to take Eva fandom by storm with stuff they'd never heard before. A lot of that has since been absorbed into the Zeitgeist, and the only stuff that's identifiably "Reichu" anymore is whatever didn't catch on. It's incredibly bizarre to have people advocating vigorously for what were once your own controversial views as if they were their own (and at this point, I guess the ideas DO belong to everybody, since that's how fandom works), only to come down on you with a vengeance elsewhere as if you'd never had a good idea in your life. (NOTE: I'm very sensitive, so naturally my mind compounds the negatives.)
I dunno what I'm trying to get at. I'm talking too much.

Heh. When I first joined the site someone referred to me as "The New Jimbo." Took me a while to realize that wasn't a compliment. Took even longer for it to stop being true anyway. Omnislashing is a hell of a drug.
HAL I still picture as a rouge terminator disguised in the flesh of a drunk Mel Gibson who gave up on John Connor in favor of gun porn & fanfic. Accurate?
Muggy was a first-class shitposter and pervert-about-town, but I'm still sad the EGF-inspired novel project of his died.
And while we're at it, I have to admit that back in the day I really admired V's revolutionary spirit, though it has since become apparent that he's a turbodouche.

I'm not saying it is or isn't, I've just never seen it for myself and also I haven't had a bad interaction with you, or in fact most people on the forum so take that as you will.
The only thing I dislike about this forum is not being responded to, which could be fixed with the presence of a Thanks button, or a up-vote button, and one particular user who posts something passive aggressively and then says "Don't respond to me because I'm not listening". Also the friend/foe option was a bad choice, but it seemed to be in demand when the old system was around.
Also I have, it was more of a question of "How" was that the "Golden Age".

Yes. All of this is accurate. Though, I wasn't around for V's antics. (I don't think I was anyway.) I can't say one way or the other what I really thought of his behavior on this forum.
