I just might be crazy to be the only person in the world looking forward to this remake and appreciating the racewashing on a Japanese adaptation for once.... Please don't send me to the loony bin.

Oh look Bad Robot is involved, which means JJ's gonna fuck the movie up somehow, some way.

^ At the very least. Or it will somehow copy the original too much, but somehow make it worse.

This is where they'll put that because there's nothing like beefing up a falling star and making it hurt the eyes of cinema goers by giving it full on lens flair...

If they're going to change it that much, why even bother calling it Your Name? I mean, the whole "body-swap" plot has been done so much already, it's hardly an original idea.

Yet even in there going for 80's nostalgia this is going to back fire as I can't name one successful movie from that period with this theme because none of them were and the only mildly successful one was in the 90's which was freaky Friday but that was the daughter swapping with the mother but that was about different things, this concept falls flat for a reason because its always stereotyped can be very sexist and does not look at gender though any form of modern lens.

Its normally lazy fast writing with very little thought or effort surrounding the real world issues both men and women can suffer due to there genders or them breaking away or going against the system or questioning there roles in it and focusing purely on the romance instead of making romance a facet element and letting the characters learn and grow through each other.

Except Your Name isn't a very old anime at all. It came out in 2016.

The original made a shitload of money, so they hope the same concept will also rake in a lot in Live Action.

Yeah, this is less nostalgia and more brand recognition. Toho’s Your Name “brand” made more kaboodles of monies in Japan than even their Godzilla brand did in 2016, so American studios are eager to try the same thing in 2019/2020/whenever.

^ How fucking outstanding... bet they totally fuck it up though, like the US attempts at Godzilla films.

^ Oddly enough I appreciate the more recent American attempts at Godzilla movies (2014 and onward), especially in light of the insulting Godzilla anime films. Live action Godzilla movies in Japan still tend to be better than The America ones, though.

But yeah, I expect US Your Name to duck a bag of sicks.

I still feel the 1998 attempt was worse, the new one tried and I don't think its issues were with the monsters but the people drama as in my view it was unrealistic and flat in places but after seeing Kong skull Island I do have hope that the next Godzilla movie is going to improve on this and do really good things and be a much better well rounded movie, I also want to see what there gonna do with Kong Vs Godzilla.

Also I agree with FreakyFilmFan4ever regarding the three netflix animated godzilla movies they are the worst things I've ever seen and an insult to the franchise.

Wasn't it you that said that Godzilla 98 is a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms?

If you stripped out the Godzilla stuff and rolled back the camp it would be a fun monster movie.

^ Yeah, that was me. I still hold to that, too, and it is a fun movie if taken as simply that, but even then I think the movie still has squandered potential as a “Dr. Strangelove” styled sci-fi comedy.

Think about it: a giant monster movie where the monster knocks down NONE of the buildings and the military are actually the ones that end up flattening NYC? (Just as is depicted in that movie.) THAT’S COMEDIC GENIUS! All it needs are a few lines about how the French were interested in our body fluids the whole time (or whatever), and we’d be at peak self-aware comedy with this movie. Unfortunately, Roland Emmerich isn’t a good enough storyteller to have been aware of any of that potential. He thought he was just making Independence Day but with lizards instead of aliens.

If they'd gone for that with the 1998 Godzilla movie and instead said it was a monster parody of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms I would have loved it, plus you don't get to see much monster parody big budget as it tends to be b movies of schlock that go with that.

The new trailer for Detective Pikachu dropped today. I'm still looking forward to the film coming, especially after viewing the new trailer, looks like the plot just got wayyyy more interesting.
