Oh, that. That was the first scene that came to mind in fact, except I didn't think you could possibly mean that scene, because all she was doing was sniffing him.

Thanks! I'd wanted to know if those were real computers and what the lights meant, but didn't know how to find out.

Odd that supercomputers from the early 1990s seem to have been first added to Eva in 2009.

Ah, and they were made by the Thinking Machines corporation. So Mr. DNA's line was "Thinking Machines supercomputers and gene sequencers", not "Thinking machines, super computers, and gene sequencers". That's nice to know.

danke, Jurassic Park is one of my all-time favorite films, I saw it seven times in the theater (that record still holds today), for me it's a modern re-imagining of the Frankenstein or Godzilla-type monster movie with a Spielberg twist or two

There were also similar looking red columns in episode 21, but the lights never started moving horizontally until Weva.

Is that a Boeing X-40A? The Rebuild shuttle has a larger and more tilted cockpit as well as a row of windows on the side but it's got the windshield-less cockpit thing going with some of the latest Boeing X-Planes.

Has anyone noticed Asuka's abysmal synchro rate after the Sahaquiel battle? I know she's depressed from the "forced" teamwork, but DAMN.

I think that "Synchronization Induced Feedback Rate" has more to do with the pilots taking physical damage from damage dealt to the Evas themselves, based on this rate corresponding to how much damage each Eva took.

I think that's the damage percentage the Eva has taken, not the actual synch ratio of the pilot. By that time the Evas have shut down and are just lying there, remember?

It says advanced synchronization induced feedback rate... hence the amount of sympathetic pain/damage the pilots are suffering. 02 was pretty much undamaged in the fight, so Asuka is just fine, while Shinji ended up needing bandages on his hands and presumably Rei's at least feeling some lingering pain.

Also, I can't quite make out the the very top line, but I'm amused to see it labeled A1701... a Star Trek reference?

Yes I think it is! That the letter A is used before the Enterprise's registry number is curious, since the rebuild of the Enterprise (a Constitution class refit) which appears in films IV-VI bears the registry number 1701-A! A similar reference is also visible on Marduk's screenshot of the rebuild shuttle: beside the UN letters is the designation XL5-1701 (from what I can make out).

Now I've got the mental image of Gendo and Fuyutsuki taking a break from world domination with a nerd rage Kirk vs. Picard debate, until Ritsuko says something about the Death Star and things get ugly.

...and now so do you. :sly:

They probably have an arrangement whereby Gendo settles all tiebreakers, so no... not quite. Fuyutsuki playing ship battles with a model Enterprise and Classic Klingon Bird of Brey whenever Gendo isn't looking - probably.

Evangelion may actually have more pop cultural references shoved into it than Family Guy.

Yet another popcult reference:

Image

If you can't make it out, the Commander of Nerv's 3rd branch is General James Henderson, a reference to the British sci-fi series UFO (there was also a real Texan general by that name, if i'm not mistaken).

The office of Studio Khara during a busy day must have the worlds highest geek/cubic meter (geek-density) value.

Also noteworthy is that the description of the Task-02 issued when Unit-02 was fielded is in perfect English, despite the fact that it can barely be made out (unless you are terribly bored like me):

Image
The description  SPOILER: Show
The issuer of this document hereby requests all relevant parties involved to not hinder the holder of this mission directive in his/her duty to accomplish the mission and to provide all possible aid and assistance needed to successfully execute the mission.

Also, for any possible mili-geeks out there: the ships that Clocky blows up are of the Takanami class, and the fighters escorting Unit-02's airlift are Sukhoi 33-s (if i'm not mistaken, the same type of aircraft were on board the mother ship in Episode 8).

Click to hear the ringtone used in Ultraman. As if Eva needed more Ultraman references than it already had.
