Harbinger of Eva RP Discussion and Sign Ups!

After some thought, and discussion with a few people on a couple RP forums that want to give this a try, we're starting an alternate universe Eva RP. Rather than simply going the route of the typical mecha genre, or following in canon Eva form, however, Harbinger focuses on the character interaction and political intrigue of NERV's unusual status with Tokyo-3 as a sovereign city-state, and the delicate relationship shared with the Japanese government. In particular, this will focus on the implementation of either OCs or canon characters, in which the selection of pilots is wholly random.

Set just after Shinji's absorption into Unit-01, SEELE has requested any and all spare components for Unit-03 and Unit-04 shipped to Tokyo-3, in the attempt to better defend against the Angels, while eliminating the excuse for Gendo to use Unit-01 until Instrumentality. With this additional hardware, comes a warning from SEELE, that any deviation from their guidelines would be cause to instill Code A-21, and have Tokyo-3 taken forcibly by the Japanese government.

To meet the demands of the two new Eva units, and bolster the ranks in the event Soryu does, in fact, continue to lose her abilities, the operations director has started the systematic testing of all potential Marduke Qualifiers. Of these, to her astonishment, only the members of Class 2-A are found suitable.

Finally, for reasons not wholly understood, the JSSDF's T-RIDEN-T program has been reactivated with an increase in funding, and active selection of any potential candidates. For the sake of efficiency, most are being recruited from bordering refugee camps along the South China Sea, and, to the horror of most civilians, East Timor, which has become a hot bed for fascist counter-revolutionaries and child soldiers.

Character Creation

The basic rules are simple: Any character created goes into this thread, with the basic description as follows:

Name:
Age:
Height: (metric)
Weight: (metric)
Gender:
Hair color:
General psychological profile/personality:
Associations/clubs/personal relationships:

The descriptions, for sake of efficiency, do not need to be any particular length, and this RP will allow for interpretation to an extent.

I stress this in great detail: it is not necessary for the canon characters to remain as pilots, or to exist in any fashion. They may be killed off, or treated simply as background characters, should the players choose.

Evangelion/T-RIDEN-T Units

As the JSSDF and SEELE want some form of check over NERV and Tokyo-3, the construction of the T-RIDEN-T units serve as an unstable alliance to support and further maintain control over the Eva series. Unlike their counterparts, the T-RIDEN-T units are heavily armored, and equipped to handle standardized munitions for the ease of arming.

With the construction of Unit-03 Alpha and 04 Alpha, practically duplicates built off the replacement components, some slight modifications have been made to further ensure compliance, such as a reduced battery capacity (2 minutes at full power), elimination of additional battery hardpoints, and direct monitoring of all MAGI signals from the Eva series by a secondary JSSDF relay station, located at the rebuilt Matsushiro facility.

For gameplay, T-RIDEN-T units can be armed as seen fit by the individual pilot and their operational team. For reference and technical notes, please see the Wikipeida List of Missiles for particular 20th-21st Century NATO weapons systems.

All T-RIDEN-T units begin with the same basic armaments for this version of Eva:

4x GAU-8/A Avenger cannons
10x AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles
12x BGM-71 TOW missiles

Five additional hardpoints are allowed

Civilian presence

Unfortunately, for the sake of ensuring total compliance with the Japanese government and loyalty to the allied forces against the Angel threat, civilians are restricted within a now heavily guarded Tokyo-3. The bordering highways have been closed off by military checkpoints, and all air traffic, except for military or logistical shipping, has been diverted to Tokyo-2. In the first week after initiating this lock-down, only two civilians have been eliminated in an attempt to flee Tokyo. However, there is not a day in the minds of all civilians within the borders that doesn't involve escape.

Character Organizations:

NERV:
Self-explanatory, though now reduced to a JSSDF-authorized presence, with its autonomy reduced for verification by the Japanese military authority

JSSDF: The primary paramilitary defense forces of the Japanese government. While still using conventional land, sea, and air based units, the development of the T-RIDEN-T armored platforms has put them in a position to overthrow NERV's stranglehold on the Angel War.

United Nations Pacific Fleet: Now restricted to constant monitoring of the Angel War with orders for immediate, direct fire support or civilian enforcement, the fleet is stationed in two convoys. The first, led by the Over the Rainbow, is stationed out of the Sea of Japan. The second, led by a refitted USS Missouri, patrols as a reserve force just south of the island of Midway.

Tokyo-3 Municipal Junior High Class 2-A: The primary source of pilot qualifiers, the institution has been monitored since the initial enforcement of the JSSDF authority with a constant military presence. All civilians are encouraged with medical and academic benefits to volunteer for service, but on rare occasions, conscription has been cleared through the Japanese government.

While academic performance is not strictly monitored, punctual attendance is heavily enforced. The class representative, for the sake of all classroom activities, has been reappointed as the liason for all military communications. This has led, in some cases, to undesirable hazing and personal attacks upon the class representative's household.

All Class 2-A students and Marduke Qualifiers are issued and must wear a crimson pair of identifying tags, or dogtags, with vital medical statistics printed for immediate treatment should Tokyo-3 Junior High fall under siege. For logistical support, all students have also been implanted with RF chips, which sound alarms if passing through the metal detectors of the various Tokyo-3 checkpoints.

Marduke Qualifiers are subject to Sub-Article 43 of the Valentine's Day Treaty, and are given restricted human status.

Non-Qualifiers: All non-Marduke Qualifiers, or "NQs" as the term has been coined, are free to pursue their lives under all pre-Impact government regulation.

Gameplay Due to conflicting schedules, gameplay will begin on May 14th, 2010 at 00:00 hours. Character details are to be posted before then on this thread. At the start of the game date, a thread will be created for this game.

Format for posts by all characters will be as follows:

Character Name
Day X, XX:XX hours
Location

It is assumed student attendance is mandatory for Class 2-A, and only Class 2-A, seven days a week, except for evacuation to NERV facilities for potential sortie. All NQ's are free to retreat to shelters, but this will not be enforced by JSSDF personnel.

Class 2-A Students are free to interact as they see fit with NQs and other characters while outside of class.

Questions?

Feel free to contact me by PM or e-mail if there is any particular details I can answer.

Well, you can certainly count me in on this. I've been dying for a new RP Thread to start up, and this seems pretty intriguing.

I suppose I shall start by submitting my default character:

Name: Katsuko Kotonoha
Age: 14
Height: 165 cm
Weight: appx. 53 kg
Gender: Female
Hair Color: Black
Other Physical Characteristics of Note: Green eyes behind round-framed glasses.
General psychological profile/personality: Generally a socially secluded girl, Katsuko is an independent girl who isn't afraid to speak her mind, but often hides her true feelings on subject matters. She does this by occasionally coming off as bitter towards those she doesn't know very well, and typically evades creating new relationships with people, despite being lonely. However, with people she does know, she's very friendly and sociable, often the "life of the party", so to speak. She considers herself very close to her friends, and may even open up to some of them, revealing clues to her painful past.
Associations/clubs/personal relationships: While not friends with many, she is known to be associated with Kensuke Aida, among others. (If any OC's are interested in being friends with her, I'm totally receptive to the idea.)

Yup, and that's Katsuko. If anything needs to be clarified, just let me know.

2.54 centimeters = 1 inch
(ie, a person 5'10", or 70 inches tall, is 177 cm tall)

1 pound = 0.4536 Kilograms
(ie, a person weighing 150 lbs is 68 kg)

Google also works wonders. Just type in "X lbs converted to Y kg" and "X inches/feet converted to Y cm".

Reporting in from TFF. Apologies for delay in posting charsheet, Goatman, I was preparing junk for the games I'm GM'ing this week (...and playing WoW and reading manga and reading fanfics and lots of other stuff). I did say I'd post this weekend though, so all considered, I kept my word. =p

Name: Masaru Sagiri
Age: 14
Height: 167.3 cm
Weight: 62 kg
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Brown
Other Physical Characteristics of Note: None. He's pretty average, appearance-wise, outside of general fitness from sports.
General psychological profile/personality: Masaru is fairly social, friendly to everyone and always welcomes a physical challenge, having lent his assistance to various clubs if they're in need of extra bodies. He doesn't particularly excel at those sports, but he gives an honest decent effort at them. That said, Masaru has a lot of trust issues, and while many people might consider Masaru a close friend because of his general behavior, and he might act the part in turn, in reality he doesn't really connect with others really well, mostly just acting a role, trying hard to fit in, but not really feeling like he's doing so.
Associations/clubs/personal relationships: As mentioned above, he's comfortable speaking in a friendly tone with everyone in the classroom, though he doesn't have any real emotional connection with anybody else (or at least from his end). He is a member of the track team.

Also, random resource for players to possibly use for a guideline - For age 14, typical Japanese stats in 2008:
Male height = 165.1±6.7 cm
Male weight = 56.0±11.0 kg

Female height = 156.4±5.4 cm
Female weight = 51.4±8.6 kg

This is btw, my 2nd post on this forum, purely for the RP. I'm also from TFF ;p

Name: Kanzaki Kaworu
Age: 28
Height: 173 cm
Weight: appx. 71 kg
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Black
Job: Section 2 (Intelligence), Taskforce "Irin"*, Cell 2, Team Leader. (Recent appointment)

Other Physical Characteristics of Note: Hazel Eyes behind black shades (of course ;p), Lanky and bald with a goatee. Purposely cultivates this distinctive look so that on missions he is able to disguise himself more easily.

General psychological profile/personality:
Notes taken from Nerv Psychologist Memo #04-24 (Classification Level: Cherubim)

>> I’m in!

As one of the proposed team leaders of Taskforce Irin (see Irin, Taskforce) A silly name, but then Nerv is a silly place, I conducted the preliminary review of Mr Kanzaki to ensure that he does not have any psychological disorders (eg. lolita complex, paranoia, etc) that preclude him from being a guardian of our pilots. Rats! My seeecreet plan was discovered!
Preliminary checks of his personal laptop show that he is a normal red-blooded male who does not view any schoolgirl porn. They checked my porn???Furthermore, while the history of his browser shows an intense and surprising interest in Anime and Computer Games there is no compromising material. He is a member of various forums (the Fanfiction Forum, etc) but does not participate actively or show any objectionable views in his postings.
During the course of the interview, the Candidate came across as taciturn and rather grim, unsurprising for one with his history, been in Thailand with his family during 2nd Impact. His only moments of levity occur when I reference certain topics such as food, and the above mentioned contents of his laptop. I concur with the assessment of my colleague present during his interview with Section 2’s Head, that the Candidate is highly professional and dispassionate and will be able to guard his charges without getting attached and letting emotions or morals interfere with his orders.

>> Heh. “Highly professional and dispassionate”. Wait till the boys hear this.

Associations/clubs/personal relationships: Kaworu has few obvious acquaintances outside his colleagues in Section 2. What almost no one knows and only a few suspect is that Kaworu has a double life… as a cosplayer. This explains his extraordinary skills in disguise and how he keeps his mask on. The only person who suspects amongst the Nerv regular staff is Misato who saw him when he unwisely decided to cosplay as Rude at a convetion when she was dragged there due to a lost bet. As a result of that particular fiasco, Kaworu tries his best to avoid Misato, a fact his sadistic Section Head picked up on which is when he promptly assigned Kaworu as the new liason to Misato for the purposes of coordinating protection of pilots. As a result, at the start of the game, he is at least aquainted with some of the regular staff.

Oh and btw, Sachi, as kayeich said indirectly, your character is rather... tall for a girl at that age.

*Irin: Given Nervs penchant for biblically connected names, I used the name of angels referred to as Watchers for the cell "stalking" the pilots as referenced here: http://bibref.hebtools.com/?book=%20Daniel&verse=4:13-17&src=NAB

And it wasn't a mistake either, a complete intention on my part for development reasons which may eventually become apparent in Katsuko's character once this gets started. Mind you, this isn't the first time I've used Katsuko, so everything that would have needed to be prepared has been, and my intended direction for the character is pretty much predetermined.

Thanks for noticing, though. :kaos_teehee:

There was no reason to say anything directly! It's actually not -that- tall, by the definition of standard deviation. Note that it's still within two standard deviations so according to a bell curve, it's still reasonable height-wise. About 14% of the study sample is generally considered to be within +2SD according to a bell curve. So it's still noticeable height, but not ridiculous either.

Anyhow, I just figured it was something to do with her personality, and part of the reason she is like she is, is because of teasing over her height making her a bit more socially reclusive, sorta like Makoto Kino's issues pre-Usagi in sailor moon. Just without the talent and inherent magical girl powers, of course.

Eh, why the fuck not? This work?

Name: Takeru Matsuda
Age: 14
Height: 170.9 cm
Weight: 58.0 cm
Gender: Male
Hair color: Brown
General psychological profile/personality: Takeru doesn't care about school in the least. He only goes because his father forces him to. Loud and antagonistic, he prefers to ignore the school rules as much as possible, which is made easy by 2-A's teacher being the oblivious man that he is. Takeru thinks he's tough enough to join the Yakuza, but this is mostly wishful thinking on his part (especially with this new lock down). While he seems uncaring, he is much nicer to the people he knows best. Seeing as he just moved to Tokyo-3, that's pretty much no one right now, except one girl...
Associations/clubs/personal relationships: Named Katsuko Kotonoha. They knew each other when they were much younger but haven't seen each other in years. He is very interested (as mentioned earlier) in the Yakuza, but is unlikely to get anywhere in that respect as a fourteen year old boy. Other than that, he has no current associations, because he only just moved to town before the lock down began.

Apologies! I should have just said that it was my opinion and not dragged you in like that.

In anycase, I have to agree that the height being intentional is a nice touch.

And Legendary, that's going to be a fun character. I'm cackling inside with sadistic glee especially if you become one of the pilots ^_^

Name: Hotaru Hoshikawa
Age: 8
Height: 91.44 cm
Weight: 22.67 kg
Gender: Male
Hair color: Black
General psychological profile/personality: Only just having been sent to Tokyo-3, Hotaru is a soft spoken boy who appears reclusive, but in reality uses this as a pretense to distance himself from others. He becomes nervous around strangers and is fearful of crowds, and tends to suffer panic attacks in socially demanding situations, despite being perfectly able to handle himself in an emergency.
While he doesn't want to be alone, he greatly fears being hurt or losing those important to himself, and he deeply misses his deceased mother. Lacking a father, Hotaru's only friend is the bear he carries around in his backpack, a memento of his mother Akane.
In reality he is a young Marduk Qualifier, and has been led to believe by his former guardians that the Angels are somehow responsible for his mother's day. This has left Hotaru a fragmented boy, part of him angry and thirsting for vengeance, and the other part an emotionally destroyed child. The fact of his age potentially serving to deter this vengeance has only compounded his frustrations.
As a Marduk Qualifier, Hotaru has been moved up several grades into Class 2-A, on paper because of his precocious intellect. While Hotaru is intelligent for his age, he is by no means the genius he is supposed to be, and this will most certainly create a divide between himself and the classroom.
Associations/clubs/personal relationships: Hotaru has a 'relationship' to his bear Yukitama, talking to it as though it were alive and apparently hearing responses from it. He deifies his deceased mother, sometimes to the point of not seeing the reality around him.[/b]

Yes.
Though what actually gave me the idea was Asuka being 13, which sparked this train of thought that lead to "So if the Evas had even younger children as pilots...wow, this would be a whole new low for NERV/SEELE/Gendo."
Of course, it'll be unintentionally funny if he doesn't get the Evapilot Russian roulette and we have a raving, vengeance-bound third grader jumped up to junior high with no remotely plausible means of keeping up with the classes and an imaginary friend that in no way indicates the remotest potential for sanity. Or tragic, there's also tragic.

Legendary wrote:He skipped FIVE grades?

Yes, but it's based on him qualifying as a potential Eva pilot rather than because of his intellect(keeping them all in 2-A). The idea of 'cute anime kid jumps several grades'(Azumanga Daioh, Rockman EXE, Detective Conan's 10-year-old MIT graduate...) isn't unheard of in fiction, but in this case I'm doing a darker take on it, rather how Eva did an equally dark take on 'dad disappears for years to build giant robot for his son'.

When I was drawing up the design I thought of making him ten to eleven, but felt that this muddied the impact of having a young child potentially fighting Angels and being corrupted by his own vengeance. Eight is so much more jarring than eleven, especially in comparison to the other Marduk Qualifiers.
That said, I'm still willing to change it, I just wanted to establish my reasons for making him so young to begin with.

She's not the only one. Hikari is the youngest in the class, followed by Toji (whose birthday is close to Asuka's). Kensuke is 13 for at least a third of the show, and Shinji WAS going to be thirteen for the first three episodes... Rei and Kaworu are the oddballs...
