What should I watch now?
Also, I watched NGE, with subs and I'm totally confused and let down by the ending.

man this is awesome, there was someone who was, uhh, virgin regarding nature of EoTV?

That's becoming excessively rare!

In any case:

Watch End of Evangelion

right now.

Haha! I didn't, and I don't. I actually do find myself enjoying the ending every so often.

Yeah I'm amazed too, I've seen lots of "community considered" anime "classics". I've seen the following:
Akira
Ghost In the Shell Original Movie :)
Outlaw Star
Trigun
YuYu Hakusho
FLCL
Cowboy Bebop
Wolf's Rain
Death Note
Code Geass
Hellsing
Full Metal Alchemist

but I've never gotten around to watching Neon Genesis.

I have to say that so far my favorite anime's have been a tie between Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, and Neon Genesis.

I have no idea but what is it about Death Note, it's the new NGE...?

Should I watch death and rebirth? Lastly, is there a difference between End of Evangelion and Renewal End of Evangelion? Oh and I watched episodes 20-24 (directors cut) not the originals.

Death Note is shit

Death&Rebirth is clipshow made of series events & majority of EoE's first half. It is unnecessary.

Just skip straight to EoE

Renewal EoE has better image, sound etc. quality

no other differences, content is same

edit: so obviously Renewal version is preferrable.

Maybe in Rebuild they'll have Shinji doing a Power Point presentation along those lines.

I've read here of people comparing DN to NGE and people praising DN for its plot, atleast until the 2nd arc of the story.

true, but can't the same be said for NGE, that it's praised for character development and its link to philosphical/psychological subjects but when viewers get to the ending for the first time...yeah :scanners_head:

End of Evangelion is the next logical step. As has been mentioned Death and Rebirth is to some extent... superfluous, and can be skipped with no ill effect.

Personally, I think that before watching EoE however, if you haven't already done so, make sure you have seen the Director's Cut versions of episodes #21-#24, as these contain ties ins to EoE. In fact, even if you have, watch these four episodes again anyway before moving onto the main feature. The EoE specific backstory is at its most dense in these four episodes.

By any chance did you make sure to watch the director's cut versions of 21-24? As for Death, watch the renewal version if you want but there isn't anything that significant that wasn't added to the director's cut episodes.

Except for that whole Kaworu in Rei 1's eye thing...lol Anno

so, what other animes are similar to Death Note or Neon Genesis?

And why am I so attached to the character of Rei? :emogendo:

oh and yes I watched 21-24 directors cuts :)

I liked the ending actually. I found the last two episodes even more enjoyable after watching End of Evangelion.
