So,for the people that do own the 1.01 DVD.How is it?Is it pretty good?Is the darkness problem I've heard that bad?Is it bad enough to make you want to turn it off or is it bearable? Thanks for answering. |

I liked it and found it bearable. the dark scenes are not terrible, but if you have a blue ray player then you minus well get 1.11 to get the better exp. _________________ You don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day. |

That's what I'm gonna do.I wasnt looking for people's opinion's on wheither or not I should get this.I just wanted to see what people thought and if the darkness made it unbearable.I'm getting this because I've been waiting for this to get english dubbed. But,speaking of 1.11.Is that gonna be like a blueray only DVD?Or will it be available in both regular and Blueray? |

I didn't notice any quality problems myself, I know the contrast issue is there, but until i checked this forum i had no idea there being a problem with it.
Seriously it's not noticeable.
But buy both 1.01 and 1.11 if you want to. I sure am. |

I initially didn't have a problem with 1.01, but after watching 1.11 I do find that the difference is quite noticeable and I personally would never go back. I'm waiting until 1.11 comes out on Blu-Ray to buy it... but if you want to buy 1.01 I don't think there's anything wrong with that. _________________ "Today?... hmm... today... right... Um... Well of course after i get 1.11 i doubt i'll ever watch 1.01 again due to 1.11 being obviously superior. |

I paid $24.95. I haven't spent that much on a single DVD for myself in years.
But it's Eva, so I don't care. I'll buy the BluRay too. |
^Pretty much this. I have 1.01 and I plan to buy the bluray once it's released. |

I had a bit of problems with the colors, but 1.01 still looks pretty good.
I keep the slip cases for that reason, they're shinny.

when I watched it on my TV, it was pretty dark (Quality-wise), but when I showed it to my bro & sis when I went up, it wasn't as dark on my bro's TV
i'm still getting 1.11, regardless _________________ The Commander wants you to turn that frown upside down...

Question about something: Do you think there was added brightness to the 1.01 Funi DVD? It seemed somewhat lighter than from what I remember of the 1.01 Japanese rip from sometime back. There was some kind of contrast and lightness going on, because Shinji at least looked tan.
For reference, here's a scene of him from my Japanese 1.01 rip (from the Japanese release):
EDIT: From Logan's non-calibrated TV:
I can't rip DVDs on my computer, if somebody could rip the same image of him from the Funimation DVD for comparison purposes, that'd be great.
...Yeeeah, his coloring seemed different in the Funi release.
I don't necessarily mind the change that the scenes were brighter compared to the Japanese release, it's just somewhat...odd that was changed to begin with, that's all.
EDIT(true)2: Although both images may look the same here, I noticed a huge difference in image quality/brightness comparing my 1.11 Funimation DVD to the Japanese release, at any rate. _________________ || ~Take care of yourself, I need you~ ||

For those who don't see my end notes above:
Although both images I linked to may look the same, I noticed a huge difference in image quality/brightness comparing my 1.01 Funimation DVD (played on my TV) to the Japanese release (played on my computer), at any rate.
There is something different about Shinji's skin tone (among other things; the final scene of Shinji and Rei in her plug is no where near as dark as I remember it being with the original Japanese 1.01 release) in Funi 1.01, but yeah, it's possible Funimation took it upon themselves to fix it to avoid any complaints.
That'd be awesome if somebody could do their own image comparisons just so we can know if the problems were rectified by Funimation or not. _________________ || ~Take care of yourself, I need you~ ||

While I predominantly watch movies blown up large off a projector in glorious high-def, once Apple is finally able to play BluRays on their computers I will make the full switch. |
