For the people who don't know what Battle Angel is? It's a manga series created by Yukito Kishiro and originally published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine back in the late 80's or early 90's. The series is set in the future and focuses on Alita, a cyborg who has lost all memories and is found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her. It's almost like Astro Boy, but darker in theme.

I've got the first two volumes of the manga, and the source material is pretty good. I'm going to have to go see Avatar first to get an idea of how he's going to do it, but from what I've heard, this has a shot at being one of the rare *good* anime adaptions. I haven't written off that hope with this movie yet, if it ever gets made.

If this does get made then finaly get a good anime movie. Most anime live action movies have been crap like Dragon Ball, Fist to the Northstar, Speed Racer, Devilman, Initial D, and Casshern (from what I have been told).

I haven't finished the manga yet, but I'm quite fond of Alita.

Who is going to play Alita? :leekspin:

Death Note adaptation was decent. I also heard that Yatterman was actually done quite well also.

Hey now live action boogiepop phantom was good.

Death Note adaptation was decent.

Now this on the other hand I didn't care for

Who is going to play Alita? Loituma for the win.

She's going to be full CG from what I hear.

actually, I don't know if the Death Note movies count since they were made and released before the anime was ever developed.

Only anime live action movies I enjoy was the second Guyver movie, and the Death Note movies. If Alita is going to be full CGI then get the ADV films voice actor for her. The dub for the mini anime was pretty good.

Hey now live action boogiepop phantom was good.

I never saw it, but I hear it was rather decent.

now with how excellent Avatar was, there's no doubt his adaption of Battle Angel Alita will be as good

& if you think Gally/Alita will look like shit, have no fear

she'll look fine with the Avatar tech

If Cameron pulls this off perfectly I'll go gay for him.

But to be honest, I'd prefer if no one ever attempted to make a live action adaptation of it, but that's just me being a selfish fanboy.

I never hear about Hushishi, but I hear Cutie Honey live action movie was ok. I hear Sam Worthington might be in it. I would not be surprise if he is in the movie since he was in Avatar afterall. He might good as Figure Four though.

Welp. I guess BATTLE ANGEL ALITA is going to suck now. James Cameron is so busy doing THREE Avatar sequels back-to-back-to-back that he's given Alita to Robert Rodriguez.

Well, that was to be expected since first Avatar appeared.

The tragedy is less that Cameron won't be directing but that he's given the movie to hack Rodriguez.

Hey! Don't be dissing Rodriguez! He gave us Machete, and Sin City!

Having said that though. . . I'm not too optimistic for this, especially considering Hollywoods track record with Anime movies before.

After the upcoming GITS and Death Note movies flop, this will likely fall into development hell again.

I don't mind Rodriguez, but handing off a project that's "near and dear" to you kinda undermines your sincerity.

Also, three Avatar sequels? Just how often can a milquetoast white guy save a bunch of ignorant savages from an incompetent military, anyway?

Rodriguez is the Kevin Smith of action movie directors. A guy who once had potential twenty years ago but spent 20 years lazily doing everything he could to prevent himself from growing as an artist.

He's a great person. I've had a beer with him & he's a very personable human being. But, he's not someone who wants to challenge himself as a filmmaker. Whatever 'Battle Angel Alita' ends up being it'll be a much more traditional feature then what Cameron would have done.

P.S. On the bright side, I edited the last post made in the American Godzilla thread (by me) but Godzilla Vs. Kong has been announced for 2020.
