What was the biggest shocker/surprise/SERIOUSLY??? type moment for you watching the show for the first time? Mine is a tie between seeing Adam fused to Gendo's hand and when Naoko Akagi chokes out Rei.

The kitchen scene in EoE.

Not having seen the DC version of 24, I had no idea where this was coming from. As the collage of images flashed by afterwards, I held an impromptu Two Minute Hate.

I tried to avoid all spoilers while I was watching the series. Though I did see a bit about Rei being a clone, the Reiquarium was quite a shock to me.

Also, this. Seeing those beasts rip into EVA-02 was just so disturbing the first time I saw EoE.

The thing that surprised me most about that scene wasn't the fact that there were clones of Rei, it was seeing Rei with so much emotion in her face. She was genuinely smiling!

Wait I just remembered.
The Alternate Reality sequence in episode 26. That was an awesome "WFT?"! Rei's out of characterness plus the way her voice was added to the hilarity and WTF-ness of it all.

Definitely one of my favorite moments in the series.

I thought they were dumb, soulless fleshbags. Those smiles couldn't have been evidence of emotions.

While I agree that their smiles weren't symbolic of emotion, it was still a shock to me to see what Rei's face would look like if she was genuinely smiling.

Hmmm....

Well there's Unit-01's dinner time,
The Dummy plug,
Asuka's mind rape,
Rei's mind rape,
Ritsuko's freakout,
Shinji's milky surprise,
Misato's death (the way she just exited the series after you had connected with her character was a bit much),
Asuka saying "I don't want to die..."
Asuka's/Unit-02's death (not the fight, because that was very satisfying),
The entire second half of EoE,
and of course eps. 25 and 26.
Take a wild guess at what the AV means....

It's been quite a while since I sat through EoE, but IIRC that scene at the end of Asuka's fight against the MP Evas, when she's reaching up toward the harpies circling over her, and her arm SPLITS down the middle...

That definitely damaged my calm.

I'm not even exactly sure why, but it was just one of those things I wish I could un-see.
