We eat some sandwiches Asuka bought then head on home. Asuka and I train as hard as we can, Pen-Pen and Misato-san cheering us on whenever they're around.
The day before the battle, on Tuesday August 11th, is when Asuka and I are finally able to get a 100%. We practice several times after the score is received to make sure we're really on the mark with things, and each time is the same.
We can win this! We have to... If we don't, everybody will die and that's not a risk Nerv wants to take.
***
That night...
Asuka steps out of the shower, her hair in a towel, wearing her regular pajamas and lounging around the house clothes of a long yellow shirt and some shorts.
“Where's Misato?”
I reply laying on my futon in the living room while calmly reading a magazine, trying to just relax after those tiring past few days. I miss that other world, that dream world, but... Life can be good here if I work on it...I suppose. “At work. she called earlier. She'll be there all night.”
Asuka seems unusually happy and smiles, winking. “So that means we're all alone tonight.”
I blink, confused by Asuka carrying her own futon and pillow into Misato-san's room. I don't get it. Since it's the last night before the battle, shouldn't we still sleep next to each other to keep the unison training going?
Laying her stuff on the floor of Misato's room, Asuka then turns to me, crouching by the sliding door. She looks really angry for some reason.
Why?
“This is the impenetrable Wall of Jericho.”
Er...I vaguely remember hearing about that once, but all I really know is it's a Biblical reference of some sort. Though I heard it was mentioned in some famous 1934 Western film too...
“Take one step over this wall and you're a dead man.”
Because of Asuka's position, I find my eye-sight trailing down lower than her face, but I quickly look back up. Can't let her get the wrong idea now!
"And now, it's time for children to go to bed!”
She angrily shuts the door before I can get a word in edgewise.
I sigh, returning to my SDAT and magazine, but I feel kind of worried now that I think about it.
Shouldn't I ask her to come back out in the living room, or leave her be?
1) Check on Asuka. But... what do I say?
2) Leave her alone. If she wants to do her own thing, I doubt she'll listen to me. I need my sleep anyway.
3) Free-form!

Lol, yes use the google to confirm your suspicions, you knew she liked you in the other world and once you find out the true meaning to "the wall of Jericho" reference that will just solidify the fact that she likes you. *She’s left you that hidden rope to climb up the walls, now use it to take em down.
*reference to how the actual wall of Jericho fell.

Pretend that you're sleepwalking and go in and flop down next to her. See how she reacts.
Rejoice, glory is ours. Our young men have not died in vain. Their graves need no flowers. The tapes have recorded their names.
I am all there is.
Negative! Primative! Limited! I let you live.
But I gave you life.
What else could you do?
To do what was right.
I'm perfect, are you?

Only a few minutes passed and I just can't sleep. The whole Wall of Jericho thing bothers me for some reason.
Sighing, I get up from my futon in the living room and go into my room, turning on my laptop.
Google is my friend!
Apparently the Biblical story involves belief in the Christian/Jewish God and how it was enough to cause the walls of the city to fall down, thus allowing capture of the city...
I blink. Allowing...capture??
Wait. Does that somehow mean... Asuka likes me here, in the real world, too?! What the hell was with that dream?!
Turning off my computer, flabbergasted, I make my way back for the living room and the door to Misato-san's room--
"OUCH!"
I jump back onto a spare futon at the yelp, noticing a half-asleep Asuka rubbing her head from us literally walking into each other. The door to Misato-san's room wide open as Asuka stands in the living room.
"A-Asuka?"
"What is it, you idiot?", she angrily snaps. "I need to go to the bathroom."
I let her do her thing while sitting on my futon, still lost in thought about the possibility that Asuka likes me.
But...do I even like Asuka? Or is Ayanami that I like? Or Mari-san or Kaworu-kun, based on what I know of them from that crazy...dream thing?
And what do I do about any of it?!
Free-form response!

Hmm, not exactly how I hoped it would play out, but no matter.
When she gets back from the bathroom if she A) goes back to her room do this. Wait till she sits back down then go over there and sit next to her, make sure that you say this before she can yell at you "Remember that "wall of Jericho" reference? Well the only thing it did was delay the inevitable for a few days before it came down and pretty easily might I add." Then make some other cool comment about you knowing she might like you. Then walk back over to the door and say "you’re more than welcome to come back over if you like, and don’t worry, I won’t try anything." Pause for effect "unless you want me to." Then go lay down.
Now if she does B) lay on ur bed...well then I got nothin.
The last little part of option A) was more or less lol's for myself. My option basically shows that we are in some way interested in her the way I wrote it (which is what I’m rooting for right now), but if people don’t think we should be this forward right now I’m sure that you can re-arrange what I said to at least show we want to be friends and "bring down the wall" that way.

I like cojax8's idea, but there's no way Shinji could muster the cojones needed to phrase it like that. At least, not at this point in his character development.
So, let's modify it this way: Pretend to be confused by why Asuka said what she said, as we just looked up the meaning of the reference and don't understand why she'd choose that to tell us to stay out. Play it innocent, like we honestly don't know what she meant.
If she does end up "sleepwalking" into Shinji's room, then the best thing to do would be to wake her up. Let's see how flustered we can make her by not playing along. Although Shinji should probably get out of the bed and turn the lights on first, so Asuka can't try to retaliate by claiming he was taking advantage of her.

Well, about the "cojones" part, I’m not quite sure, we did go through that ego boost known as "happy land" not too long ago where we did actually kiss her, with some goading from her of course, and in this world we also know (or at least think we know) that she has at least some sort of feelings for us. My guess is we would be able to pull it off with some stammering and some blushing, but I still think the Shinji that has been present here is assertive enough to at least try that given the conditions.
And besides, what I said about the wall is 100% ture, so at the very least we could call her out on that since we actualy know about the wall now.
If that logic doesn’t work for ya, then you could always use the excuse of Shinji thinking about the kiss in the other world and her reaction to it as a confidence booster, many people have been able to do things that they normally would never do by thinking about certain events. And common, if we could kiss her in the other world surely we can make it through one comment to her.

See what she does next. If she flops next to you say something like "So, what brings you back here?" If she goes back to Misato's room, execute the "pretend to sleepwalk" plan.

Fair enough. I was just thinking that the way you phrased it sounded a bit too suave for Shinji. He may have had his confidence boosted by the happy-land dream (just as an aside, how long was he in there, from his subjective view? A couple of weeks?), but he's still a kid that has spent the majority of his life avoiding interaction with other people. He's not going to be able to be that smooth in social situations for a long time, especially not with a girl that he kinda likes. Does that make sense?
Yeah I know what you’re saying, but I was thinking that since A) we are not as far along in the series so the shit hasn’t hit the fan, yet, and B) I thought that one of his fears about being intimate with Asuka was that he was afraid of opening up to anyone so he could never act on his emotions for her because he figured she would reject him. Since we figure she likes us and because of the happy times we got in that other world which shows that running away from everybody sucks I figured that we would be more assertive coming back. But yeah, I suppose the way I said it was pretty ballsy. The last part of my convo for him was not me being too serious, more or less just for laughs on my part. But as for the "wall of Jericho" convo part I could still see it being pulled off, perhaps not as smooth as I made it sound, but still possible.

This doesn't have to be A/S unless you want that.
(Yes, about a few weeks passed in happy-land, not real time.)
Exiting the bathroom, Asuka sleepily flops down onto the spare futon in the living room.
Out of sheer confusion I stammer out, "Um, d-does this mean that the walls came tumbling down?"
Asuka mutters a "Shut up." against her pillow then silence. I realize why: she's already fast asleep.
Asuka's really...pretty. And it's nice that she's not yelling for once. But still...
1) Kiss her!
2) Think about it first?
3) Just go to sleep!

Go to bed and don't get any weird ideas.
Seize the day.....by the throat....
I hate mcdonalds because their mascot is a creepy spooky clown who looks like he smells funny. Seriously every time I see ronald I think he's secretly some sort of rapist who turns people into hamburgers. Also their food sucks. -Defectron
Our plumbing is messed up and my dad will not call anybody because he's a cheap asshole. Fuck you old man, fucking call someone. Some of us want to stay sanitary. -backseatjesus
