[CYOA]Prelude to New Concept - Hostile Takeover

[Vegeta 20XX]

This is more or less promotional material for New Concept - it explains a few things regarding the scheme of things (as well as Claire Phoenix's gigantic supply of weapons). A couple of plot devices here and there, but nothing big. Oh, and a poll.

Prologue: Instrumentality...A Failure

Fighter planes and transport ships start pouring in all around the city. These aren't JSSDF aircraft, either - it's coming from higher up. The AMU wants to control the situation this time. Tanks, soldiers, the works - all attacked the JSSDF units in the area, trying to minimize actual casualties. The Allied soldiers held any military personnel down and awaited further orders.

A few ships descent into Terminal Dogma. In one, the visibly angry Commander of the Allied Military Union forces sits to have a surprise meeting with Commander Ikari regarding the most recent events. He receives a message from one of his subordinates.

"Commander, the area has been secured - what do we do?"

"Do a Level Two memory wipe - the past several weeks didn't happen."

The technology was fairly experimental, and Supreme Commander Argo M. Phoenix had been looking for any chance he could to test it on a large area. He would spare Ikari the wipe, since he needed him to remember his mistakes.

"Memory wipe complete - now what do we do?"

Phoenix thought about it, but decided that they couldn't pass off the events as having never happened if he left the place the way it was. He barked, "Patch everyone up and leave - we'll make our official entrance later."

"And what about the damage that can't be fixed?"

"Then we can always say it was the Soviets or something."

The helicopter landed - Dr. Akagi had apparently left, as only Gendo Ikari and the creepy girl were down here. "I will have to take this up with the old men - all of you need to realize who REALLY runs the show here." Gendo looked at Commander Phoenix with what he assumed was a stern look, though he couldn't tell behind those goddamn glasses. "You're finally not satisfied with the way this facility is operated?"

"I'll explain that to the old men."

Three days later

Misato woke up from what almost seemed like a coma. She had no idea what the hell she was doing before, only that she was now in a hospital bed. Apparently, most of the officers at NERV had similar experiences, and were in the other hospital rooms. "Ohhh...my head...." she said groggily - it felt like a hangover.

Arriving at HQ, one of the first things Misato noticed were the alien-looking troops patrolling the halls - Allied troopers. Maya, Aoba, and Hyuuga were all at their desks, though the presence of the Allied troops made the atmosphere feel...controlled.

"Your attention, PLEASE!", one of the soldiers bellowed, as a rather imposing man walked into the room with a small train of guards. He was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Military Union, a subordinate to the UN Secretary General. He didn't look too pleased to be here.

Commander Phoenix began, "As many of you are no doubt aware, we were attacked, and most of you had to be evacuated to emergency care. This proves that, for the moment, our presence is required to keep enemy powers out of our affairs. As Supreme Commander of the Allied forces, I hold the highest authority here and in about half of the planet - at least, as far as military matters are concerned. Since this IS a military establishment under indirect Allied jurisdiction, I can transfer control to whoever I please. Not that I WILL, but that I can, and for now, there will be a steady supply of soldiers to ward off attackers. Now if you excuse me, I have a meeting with your Commander regarding how this place will be operated from now on." And with that, he left, along with the soldiers that followed him into the room.

Misato looked puzzled. "What the hell was THAT all about?"

Maya apparently knew, telling her, "Apparently we were attacked, so the AMU is sending troops to keep people from attacking. I honestly don't remember any of it - do you?"

Misato shrugged. "Not a damn thing. Any of you seen Ritsuko?"

"Not all day."

Probably, and she's probably going to end up coming into existence in the time between this and the end of the Prelude (yes, it too will end in 3I).

"coming into existence" is a very odd way to describe it, since Naomi "Already Exists", just going under a different alias in order to have a job (Despite her not being happy that she use her unsurpassable robotics talents on the EVAs, due to her not wanting to blow her cover & not wanting to damage Nerv's reputation even more than it already had)

I really think I ought to rework her story - right now, it seems like she already existed prior to NGE in general, and I think that maybe we can actually see the transition from Maya to whoever. Seriously, I'm not buying the "oh, she was actually this person all along" thing, I think it would be more plausible if she BECAME the character, and this gives her more time to actively do so.

hmmm...she already is screwed up to begin with when we confront her Post-I3 in her "Overlord/Dark One" guise, so saying that she became Two Different characters after/during Instrumentality would be just too surreal & weird even for myself. Sorry, but I wouldn't buy that & the Bridge Bunnies' backgrounds are quite wafer thin to begin with (From my knowledge), so heh

& yes, my idea of Naomi existing pre-EVA was what I intended when I thought the alter-ego up, though we don't really need to elaborate on that in the prequel to the RP at all. It would ruin the value of the twist/reveal (Not so much the revelation who The Dark One/The Overlord is, but revealing the truth behind the person that is The Dark One/The Overlord)

I will say that I do prefer for certain things to be left unexplained (Most particularly...why did Johnson become the way he is. I flat out refuse to create a reason why)

"Alien" meaning "different" or not fitting - soldiers from outside the complex.

And the AMU is more or less a larger military organization encompassing several smaller ones, and accounts for at least half of the world's military strength. By "Instrumentality, A Failure", I am referring to the attempt at hand - I'm saying that the JSSDF was subdued and 3I was (albeit temporarily) averted. And memory wipes are a plot device, because I kinda want to continue from the point in the series where everyone isn't all too broken down yet, because otherwise it inevitably leads to ReDeath.

I'm defiantly think that having Maya having a dark side from the get go works more then having her turn bad all of a sudden post 3rd Impact, though it also makes sense that 3rd Impact might have been what pushes her over then edge. But regardless Vegeta as our GM for this gets finlay say.

As for if Vegeta planning on incorporating our characters into the back story, I don't mind, though it seems to early to say if he was even going to do this in the first place, the only thing Ryujin would be doing pre-Impact is working a job at a bowling ally and working one the side with a group that was planing the over-throw of the (even more then normal) corrupted post 2nd Impact US government, peacefully if possible, with arms if not.

Edit: Oh that's what you meant by alien, sorry with all that talks about mind wipes I was thinking you meant space aliens, maybe foreign troops would of been a better choice of words.

yeah....Third Impact ultimately making Maya/Naomi completely snap (In which prior, she always was a ticking time bomb, due to her own history of violent outbursts, the unsatisfaction of being a bridge bunny and not being able to use her true skills, despite knowing the consequences of doing so & being touched by GNR) & coming to the realization that in this Post-I3 world she can make it her own with her new-found powers & such she inadvertly gained from Rei & that now she doesn't need to go by her "Maya" alias anymore in the Post-I3 world just makes far more sense overall than the (IMO, lamer) "Hey...i'm sick of being all goody goody, lemme try being...evil" which Vegeta thinks makes more sense

Seems like we're starting to run head long into a creative conflict who's origin stem from the time Vegeta was off line and we had our little creative pow-wow session and turned the story from goofy to semi-serious. I think we need to have bit of a group discussion tomorrow at a time it's convenient for all of us so we can discuss what we want to do and the direction we what to go before this becomes a problem.

I dont really care either way I'm fine rather maya was faking to begin with or snapped during third impact.

I suppose the idea that she snapped is a bit more realistic but the other idea could work too.

I still say that just having a character say "Hey, I wanna be Evil for a change" one day just doesn't seem realistic to me at all. Something like that needs to have been developing & in there for a much longer period of time for it to make sense & Naomi's entire Post-I3 "Conquer All, then take it into my own hands with my new powers" thing needs to be something that always been in her background rather than it just suddenly happen in a split-second. The combination of Third Impact, Instrumentality & her discovering her gaining what Rei lost in exchange for pure humanity would finally make her completely snap & give her the ability to finally get revenge on those who scorned & blacklisted her.

I dunno, I just think that there being far more than met the eye with Maya Pre-I3 seems to perfectly synch in with Anno's concept of "Everything Being Sick in the Head" in the series

I have the feeling that this is going to get voted down by a million to one, but until everyone has voted (and I have a feeling that "outside forces" - i.e, people not actually participating in the RP that want to tamper with the votes, like possibly Eric Blair and his cronies), so I'd like to ask everyone to say if they've voted, and if you feel comfortable with saying so, what your vote was (this IS a community effort, so if you don't want, we'll try something else and see how that works). And in all honesty, I think when I was gone, everyone just went crazy with the storyline and threw in a bunch of weird shit (Mana and her mecha, among other things) and everyone started the Race to Be the Most Badass in my absence. I really think that this went from goofy to just plain ridiculous, and we kinda need to get shit on track. If I have to, I will mandate that people send me their posts beforehand so I can review them a la the intro post rule, to keep everyone from taking everything into their own hands. We're working AS A TEAM - Hell, my character left the door open for someone else to finish the fight and all.

As for my self while I can do a silly story like this started out as but I prefer a more mature, detailed take on things so I like the idea of the story taking on a darker more Ev like bend. This works with the whole Maya angle do to the fact we're adding more detail to a character who despite the role she played had very little back story and making her the main villain which is a twist that if done right can go nicely with evas nothing is as it seem theme and by making her the recipiente of Lilith dark side this also work into evas occult side and makes for a nice reversal of roles.

I don't really get the whole "Trying to be most badass" thing, though I do agree we can streamline some of the more extremely ridiculous things (I personally am in the "Everything Seems to get better, only in reality, its only getting worse" mindset. Heck, you can consider Johnson to be a badass, but I look at him as being someone who thinks he is badass & does cool things, but is far more severely mentally damaged than you think. He was first created in Middle School & much like all of my concepts, as I got older, I made my concepts increasingly darker & more mature).

However, I firmly stand by my concepts for Maya.
