Something horrible...
Remember how in the old days, when an anime show was sent across the Pacific, instead of keeping the original Japanese opening theme song intact or replacing it with a completely differenty song altogether like they do today, they'd rewrite the theme song with english lyrics? Tetsuwan Atom/Astroboy's theme is a pretty good example of this.
Well, I wondered what it would be like if that had been the case with our favourite giant-cyborg-mindfuck series, so I wrote my own english lyrics. And, being the sadistic bastard I am, I'm going to share them with you. Be thankful I'm only posting the TV-size version. There's more but it's even worse.
And now, on to the fun...
The cruel angel heralds the beginning of the end,
Young boy rise to the heavens like a legend...
*(Short instrumental)*
Picture a world, not unlike your own,
Where people believe that they're safe in their home,
But just outside their door,
A supernatural horror,
Is out to destroy the human race.
Picture a child, not unlike yourself,
Who goes through life not caring about himself,
Just spending his days,
Trying to shut away,
All the things that he cannot face.
Earth is in crisis, 3rd impact's approaching,
As Angels descend from the sky.
If humankind's to survive what's encroaching,
Then they're gonna have to rely,
On-
Giant robots with angels trapped inside of them,
Teenaged pilots & an evil organization,
Doing battle with big, black monsters from beyond,
Mankind's last hope lies in the Evangelions.
In his Eva, Shinji Ikari battles on,
Against the Angels & his own inner demons.
Catchy, no?

2:34 And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.

...ever heard of the Fan-Geeks Commentary Project?
It deserves much more of my "free time" than I currently give it.

On topic of that, how's the progress going? When I joined AN the Ep. 4 Commentary was pretty much history, and Ep. 5 is still looming in the distance. Sadamoto will finish his Eva manga and probably make a sequal or two before we finally get around to the mushy parts in EoE!
On the topic of fanfiction: Did I mention that I read "Higher Learning" in one sitting last mont? Go me.

I believe the biggest bottleneck is the sheer volume of material to be translated. I believe Reichu is currently shouldering this herculean task alone, seeing as how the rest of us are too lazy to learn Japanese. Perhaps we should seek the services of one of the great Eva translators of yore? But then again, none of use know the occult rituals required to summon these great titans from their perpetual slumber.

By "Eva continued", do you mean something that just stretches the whole saga out and provides more, and more, and more of the same? If so... I hate them, too.
As for episode #05... er... :signs off forums:

sadly, adv beat you to it. the original region 1 release actually had a translation that allowed you to sing it in time with the music. but just like many books of foreign songs translated into english, they took liberties with the lyrics and drove the original phrasing and meaning into the ground. thank god that went away in platinum.
but at least you've whooped them in the sheer cheesiness factor. :p

Just wait until the first chapter of my "War of a New Dawn" is done. It's a non-darkfic post-3I Asuka/Shinji as well but I've never seen anything quite like it before myself.
Edit: Not to mention that it's a non-AU Anime/Game crossover as well.

Ryo wrote:That's exactly what I meant. New Angels, new Evas and new Children for NO FRIGGING REASON AT ALL!!!!
There are obvious reasons - more angst, sweeping all the messiness of HIP under the carpet because the writer doesn't want to confront it, and maybe providing more love-interests for the pilot(s) of their choice. What you mean was for no good reason at all.
sadsadshinji wrote:I prefer the fan-fics that try to fit into the episode timeline
Were it not for the fact that the better shoujo-ai shorts tend to be adrift from continuity, I would agree wholeheartedly. When I write fic myself, I start with a what-if but keep everything not immediately changed in the big picture carrying on, so 3I is an oncoming avalanche, and things get more strained along the way.
I shall have to get around to finishing the side-story I'm still writing to the fic that culminated in Asuka/Kaworu, and get onto the "Unit#04 survives" scenario I outlined on AN, with its potential for added Asuka/Kensuke goodness. (Just for Ryo's benefit, you understand. )

In GOS2, anyway, Asuka uses Kensuke in attempts to make Shinji jealous. And, if she doesn't end up with Shinji at the end, she takes Kensuke as her consolation prize.
Oh well, it's not like there's any other male character in her age group that's available for these kinds of scenarios. Toji and Hikari are an item, and Kaworu is gay (but he makes an exception for Rei), so if she doesn't get Baka-Shinji, there's only one option left.

Yeah, honestly. Kensuke needs some nice geeky chick... I wonder if that Mayumi character would fit the bill?
