Suits or CGI?

Postby Iblis 19th Angel » Mon Jul 18, 2005 7:09 pm

Do you think the Evas & humanoid Angels should be done on the computer, or played by actors in plastic Eva & Angel suits?

I don't really see anything wrong with the CGI as long as it's well done. And I suppose they'd definately need it for some parts, like the Sahaquiel catch.

On the other hand, the Eva's are already humanlike, so they could be played by human actors in shiny plastic costumes. As long as they were well made & not cheesy looking. Could also work for Sachiel & some of the others. And since it is based on a Japanese show, it'd certainly be close to its roots.
2:34 And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.

Giant robots with angels trapped inside of them,
Teenaged pilots & an evil organization,
Doing battle with giant monsters from beyond,
Mankind's last hope lies in the Evangelions
.

I actually considered using suits when I was planning to do my own ELAM trilogy before the big ADV announcement was made. I quickly decided against it though in favor of motion capture CG (which is how Weta made Gollum, if Weta Digital does the CGI you can be assured that the Evas will be created this way).

Just suggesting the evas much less the angels be done with suits is just plain crazy talk. First off the sort of physical maneuvers the evas do would be rather difficult to pull off with a guy in a suit, also their kind of lanky for most suit wearing actors. Bardial and Sachiel would both need to be CG because of how their bodies morph.

The funny thing is, there will probably be a cheap D2DVD Eva movie in the future that employs suits, and it will probably be better than this one.

While I like the tangibility of things in movies, I really don't think a guy in a suit could do it justice. CGI all the way.

CGI is getting incredibly realistic nowadays. You know the clonetroopers in Revenge of the Sith? They were CGI. All of them.

But on somewhat of a tangent, what about the Plugsuits? Do you think they'll actually wear physical plugsuits, or just one of those blue-screen bodystockings and CG the plugsuit in later?

*shudders at the thought of human actors in shiny plastic costumes playing evas*

no matter how well done it is, it'll seem to much like one of those super sentai series.

Tread carefully there. Sentai is the greatest thing since slice bread, and you know it. :P

I'm more of a fan of Toho movies, but sentai floats my boat too, especially Zyuranger.

suits would also be hard to fit in, becuase not everyone has a super thin anorexic waist and huge bulking shoulders.

I'd go with CG. Sentai have horrible special effects and will cause americans to laugh their brains out. Damn americans.

Anyways, CG also has more potentiol. But it would be even better if they could get real Evas to the set. After all, according the holy book of Episode 21, isn't Shogouki just came in contact with Yui? <.< >.>

=p

Two new subjective points to bring to the table:

1.) King Kong looks like a cartoon to me.

2.) Gamera III made me gasp with amazement.

the Evas will most certainly not be people in suits most of the time...

I can however see a guy in just the helmet...for a creepy ominous closeup of Eva's head....but the Eva are too anorexic to be people in suits...

they may film above a city like Seattle or New York or maybe Tokyo by helocopter....and use CG to eliminate easily recognized buildings like the Space Needle and such ...also...add more Tokyo3 looking buildings...then instert Eva's and Angels and stuff...

They may make models of Eva and CG...theyll certainly do both...

They may alos build a model city...the tried but true method used in the first Star Wars movie...i dont know how they made all the ships and stuff in the newer ones...CG?...if they can do that with CG....doing Eva wont be so hard
